  • I've never heard of these guys and stumbled upon this video by accident but this is a really cool sound! Can anyone tell me where these guys are from? I'd love to learn more about them.

  • @brittanyismoney Kansas City, Mo.

  • Awesome! Seen them 7 or 8 times but I found out about them after the accordion player left the band. Like this a lot. Joe the keyboard player is an amazing musician too but its nice to see the old band here. Thanks for posting.

  • Love it!

  • iam that 1 person

  • It's one of my favorites!

  • love this band! the singer is a really cool guy

  • @chiefzog Live at the Gem DVD, if I'm not mistaken. :/

  • Is this off a live dvd? I love this band...def play the most legit irish music...unlike those punk irish bands that scream and shit

  • @mhumphrey89 This is from the Elder's first DVD 'Hoolie Poppin'

  • I respectfully dissagree with ctc315 about the elders being better than ETH. The both shine in different ways. ETH is a lil more modern in their approach and kind of has a DKM feel but a little less extreme. The elders stick to irish roots with pure folk songs and and superior fiddle playing. Both are extremely talented nonetheless.

  • I went to their concert and they had me go up on stage!

  • The singer is my moms boss. I know all of them besides the accordian. He quit and they have a keyboard player now.

    Brent Hoad=Violinist

Ian Byrne=Vocalist, and he owns Byrne Custom Woodworking. His wife is Kathy Quinn, She is on the news in KC

    Ask me any thing.

  • Another video poster was commenting on "Men of Erin" that Ian had wrote the song after his wife's death, but I doubted she died and I distinctly remember him saying it was inspired when he left Ireland. Thanks for confirming (unintentionally). I'm a friend of one of his nephews.

Doesn't it make you enjoy the music better when you have connections and you know they're from your hometown?

BTW, thanks for posting the video! It's one of my favorites!!

  • Saw these guys the first time at the Great North American Irish Fest. in Herkimer, NY, then a few weeks later at the Irish Fesh in Syracuse, NY. The are the best, much better than ETH. Better music, better showmanship, just a tighter band!

  • I'd be hard pressed to say one band is actually better than the other, but I too prefer the sound of the Elders over ETH. I also have seen them at GAIF (btw, it's in Frankfort, not Herkimer, at the Herkimer County fairgrounds) and I'll watch ETH, but usually from the side or back of the tent. For the Elders, I'm front and center...dancing, singing, and going crazy. Always a good time when the Elders are in town!

  • Hey there gambrinus! I'm a KC native and was lucky to listen to them live twice: one at 2007 Irish fest, the other at Vis. In in St. Louis now for college and I miss them wholeheartedly! You can't describe the feeling you get when you hear them, you just want to get up and dance go crazy, laugh and sing! I love how they have such a great following in KC, it's always fun to be surrounded by tons of fans. & I love their audience interaction!

Best band ever, I am COMMANDING everyone to see 'em live

  • Very cool. And what an audience.

  • I just saw These guys a couple weeks ago at the Minnesota Irish fair. all I can say is wow. They are incredible, I've never seen anyone that brings as much emotion in their songs, be it lighthearted and cheerful, or their deep, soulful ones. And they will bring that emotion out in the audience. Not to mention how many people they had up dancing in front of the stage. I'd never even heard of them until two weeks ago and I am now a huge fan. Must...find....CD's.

  • I'm from KC so I might be biased, but there is no other band in the world that brings so much energy to their live performance than the Elder's. Watching them live is a treat, and if you watch them you are changed in a way that can't be explained until you see them in person. Can't wait to see them in KC for Irish fest this year.

  • @gambrinus1516 I'll back you up on that (and I'm from Colorado, so no bias.) There's just something there....and you're absolutely right, no measure of eloquence can convey the delight of the live show to someone who hasn't seen them. But everyone's converted after the first time they see the Elders live!

  • @gambrinus1516 Yeah! I'm actually from St. Joe, so it's only about an hour away. But I go to the Irish Fest every year just to listen to these guys play! I remember when I first saw them, they were actually IN St. Joe at the Civic Arena. Hands down, best concert i've ever been to!

  • @gambrinus1516 --I agree with you--saw them in K/C festival once--they really got the place jumping--A great band.

  • I just saw them along with Cathie Ryan and Solas at Colorado Irish Festival. What a night - I have not seen such a high energy band that could actually play their instruments and sounded great.

Cathie and Solas were great too - Gosh that night was magical!

  • OMG it is scary how ell this song describes a character of mine....
