  • 1:52 yeah because all bayonets do that...

  • Two days ago I woke up knowing I was going to face one of the most gruelling days I have ever faced. While I was in the shower I thought about this movie, and said "you know what? The wooden soldiers". As the day went on I kept humming this song to myself. It helped me make it through the day, and everything turned out great. Thanks, Stan and Ollie.

  • Not only is this film a great comfort to watch, year after year, but the comments here are just as good. It is memories like this that really bind us all together. These comments have been as heartwarming as the film itself. How excellent is that?

  • 2:24 epic clump in the head !!!

  • I miss seeing this on TV this year I couldn't find it anywhere

  • anybody know why the boogie men never attacked Barnaby ?

  • I remember watching this as a child at my Grandmothers house every Christmas and Thanksgiving too I believe. Amazing how much time has gone by since the 60s and 70s and how things have changed but this movie remains unchanged forever a memory that still gets refreshed every year

  • Love this music, makes me want to beat up the Boogey Men within my life, yet I always felt sorry for Ollie in the end. Poor guy, helps defeat the Boogey Men, gets injured and everybody laughs at him. Makes me sad.

  • Love this. A classic triumphant moment of comedy beating the bad guy to save Toyland. It was a building block in my young soul and still hasn't lost its ability to inspire me.

  • one of the best movies of all time. I don't understand why it's no longer televised anywhere. ever! Even on TCM

  • @MrPaulj1959 read the latest posting about the movie being symbolic , they dont't the american people getting the Idea of taking back their country from the Banksters

  • @jhunted7667 Ron Paul is the person pushing the buttons on the backs of the American People , and Thank God of It !!

  • Reading all those wonderful posts made me feel real good. The story stands for myself too, its a classic and have loved the movie for as long as I could remember. In my 40s now and it is my belief that this movie ranks as one of the best of all time.

  • 2:48 *gasp* OMG!!! :O

  • Classic of all classics

  • My family and I watch this each year, and I never fail to become a bit emotional when those soldiers march and save the town.

  • love the music, love laurel and hardy!

  • Holy crap, the wooden soldiers were the first Terminators!

  • Never gets old.

  • The stop motion animation for the soldiers in the warehouse still impresses me to this day. Major fan of the movie since i was a kid

  • stan and ollie are definitely a part of christmas!

  • This is better than most modern movies. It's the story that matters

  • I would so march into war with that tune playing

  • Bwahahaha my evil scheme has won. I...oh shit, an entire army. I need to make the most ridiculous facial expression possible. -Barnaby

  • I love it when the head of one of the soldiers comes off yet it is still moving.

  • I just found out 1934

  • what year was this movie made,I think it was in the 30's?

  • I love this part of this movie A RAT >O.O< lol

  • Watching this film has been my husband's thanksgiving day tradition ever since he was little.... He made me watch it with him today. Thank you so much for uploading MotWS to Youtube!

  • I haven't been able to find this movie on any channel in years. So disappointing, this was a Thanksgiving Day tradition in my home growing up. Would love to see it again, as well as a lot of family members who miss it also.

  • I wish we could send the woodens out to Wall st. and the White house.

  • @1silverbay - you brought a tear to my eye! Yes, that's exactly how it was, and I might add, while driving to my Aunt's in Long Island, a rock radio station I can't remember used to play Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" which took up a good part of the ride. Thank you much for sharing!

  • For those in the New York area, this is what Thanksgiving is all about. The smell of turkey cooking in the oven, mothers fixing the rest of dinner in the kitchen, first the animated Gulliver's Travel, then March ... playing on channel 11, then waiting for King Kong, Son of Kong, and Mighty Joe Young, watch a little of the parade and then sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. What memories.

  • This was my very favorite movie. When I was a kid they played on Xmas Eve.

  • It isn't Thanksgiving without this Movie... Bring it Back!!!

  • @1ChillRebel oh its on pixs chanel 11 right now!

  • watching this tomorrow...Happy Thanksgiving from Long Island NY

  • Man I loved this Movie as a Kid, Watched it every Year at Xmas :)

  • This film is a classic that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Still it loved by fans who still watch it year after year. Great animated sequence for 1934!

  • I always found it amazing that Henry Brandon, who played the horrible Barnaby, was only 22 when he made this movie!

  • john loves Karyn

  • i have always watch this when they had on it on t.v. growing up at my grandmas house i found it on dvd i had to buy it still watch it every christmas now i can watch it when every i was too

  • Thankyou

  • what is the real significance behind this movie...I see a Jewish landowner, controlling dangerous minorities and a community trying to keep safe while exhibiting a slight touch of xenophobia? On a lighter note, the movie is a classic.

  • This is the real movie version of"Babes In Toyland!"..not those damn NBC TV remakes or that patronizing, overrated idiocy of Mr.Disney's..L&H's movie version

    is the best.

  • I guess this is where the ideas came from for The Wizard of Oz. I still love this movie

  • When the toy soldiers give the call to battle. I still get goosebumps. To see them lay some whoop-ass on the boogiemen, makes me feel like a kid again.

  • love this movie one of the best of laurel and hardy.....

  • Today's military could use those wooden soldiers. hahaha

  • The Laurel and Hardy version of "Babes in Toyland" is the best and always will be. I still believe in it.

  • @ 1:28 Barnaby- Oh s***! Bo Peep- What on earth??

  • Simply Iconic

  • Take that, Barnaby.

  • the only time this ever comes on tv is Thanksgiving and I set my alarm every year just for this movie

  • What a classic.

  • I wonder if this was the first movie to use stop motion? maybe it was king kong first?

  • @wiisalute King Kong 1933 was first. But stop-motion is from the 10s and 20s. One of the best and first stop-motion flicks is LOST WORLD from 1925

  • Is this a colourised version of a black and white film

  • @colinclarke1000 It was originally black and white, recolored sometime between the 60's and 80's

  • one of their best, don't you think, right up there with Sons of the Desert and Way Out West.

  • As surreal as I remember. As a kid I remember that it freaked me out when the soldier's head would come off and would still be walking, truly creepy!!!!

  • im 34yrs old and still thik this is greatest movie of that time and now today! if they and sure they well remake this dont rap gangster it up!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this! All through my childhood (and quite a few years beyond) the B&W version was broadcast once a year on Thanksgiving Day and I never missed it - it was a family tradition and to me it meant the beginning of the Christmas season! Its been years since I've seen it, and never in color - wonderful!! Thanks again!

  • U know what I find kinda funny they're supposed 2 b wooden toy soldiers but they're all flexible & they know who the enemy is without the use of computer programming this is still my favorite part of the movie & 1 of my all-time movies as well

  • Thank you again for posting. !!!!

  • classic film,....still holds up today....maybe we can get the soldiers to march to washington and sweep some of those so called career politicians out

  • @docbond0071

I am from Germany, but still think the same as you........please, if the wooden soldiers have done their job in Washington its possible to send them to Berlin....... its the same case....

  • I'm 52 and I've watched this scene thousands of times since I was a kid, during the holidays but also when I'm feeling despair or distress. It's just comforting to know that when all seems lost, there is a warehouse of wooden soliders waiting to be activated to save the day.

  • @anthonylaudati very nicely said anthony

  • Not only this movie but Laurel and Hardy in general were a staple on American TV up through the mid 90's. Now they are rarely seen on TV anymore, I feel sorry for so many that can't feel the magic we do.

  • @anthonylaudati Great, great comment! I do the same thing!

  • @anthonylaudati this movie was made in the 30's and sybolic , hitler was barnaby ,the nazis were the bogeymen , toyland set astride from the old shoe was Europe the old shoe was the Depression US and the toy soldiers was the Mobilization of the United States Laural and Hardy were suppost to be the backward US that made an army by mistake

  • LOL at the end! Oliver is gonna need some serious surgery from thos darts!

  • does anyone know where i can get an mp3 of this song? like the orchestra version? i looked on itunes and they dont have anything from the 1934 version

  • A grand Classic, as long as it does not get interrupted on TV by advertising.

  • As an old adult, I love the way I can jump up and down in my seat, cheer and shed tears, and laugh with the freedom that has been lost for nearly half a century. I can only wish that our grandchildren and beyond can know the beauty, values and the heart in such a film. A generation is passing now, and perhaps the oncoming generation will take a minute and reflect on what has passed

  • Comment removed

  • This scene still thrills me to this day...a fantastic movie for all ages.

  • Ever since I was a little kid this was my all time favorite part! Good against evil! Strong saving the weak! ;)

  • Hmmm These things that attack toyland, they're not goblins (1997) nor swampy tree monsters (1986)....what exactly r they.....caveman or cave apes?

  • @bozzer1992 THEY'RE BOOGEY MEN!

  • 2:34 RAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thx for posting.

  • I remenber NYC channel 11 PIX showed it every Thanksgiving. I've been watching it for the last 40 years and have never tierd of it.

  • @Stateless1953, I remember the very same...wouldn't have been Thanksgiving without it. I have it on DVD now and my family and I watch it every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  • My favorite holiday movie as a child.

  • I absolutely enjoyed it! And I make sure I watch it every Christmas!

When Walt Disney was in but his infancy of creativity, there was Hal Roach and this amazing creation of fantasy story telling.

Ollie and Stanley mistake making 600 toy soldiers 6" high for Santa Claus, instead make 100 soldiers 6' tall. Their mistake saves Toyland!

Great music, great lyrics, great screenplay, great story, great everything!

Film making doesn't get any better than this!

Brings a tear to my eye every time!

  • 1:33 - 1:35 makes you think there is going to be some awesome, bloody battle.

  • @HouseBug26 lol I remember this movie. By far a Masterpiece!!

  • "get more darts"........

    "you know what"

    "what"

    "the wooden soldiers"

lol see i told you about stan

  • top 5 greatest scenes ever

  • Greatness. I'll never forget the feeling I had as a small child when the wooden soldiers saved the day.

  • I never get tired of this- amazing how we watched it as kids 40 years ago

  • I love how of all people, ollie is the one with the idea to use the wooden soldiers. i also love how they make the transition from real soldiers to the wooden ones.

  • @wilburscotia No, Stan comes up with it.

  • hm, what kind of toyshop makes functional cannons? then again, when Ollie and Stannie are running shop, of course the workings will seem incompetent, xD

  • This movie kicked ass!

  • Thank you for posting the whole thing. I remember watching this at my Grandmothers near Christmas time and I remember she loved it and so did I and I still do today, it brings back great memory's so thank you again :)

  • March of the Wooden Soldiers is a absolute classic, still one of my many holiday favorite shows/movies.

  • 0:20 - 1:40 EPIC

  • Who didn't love "the boys" Stan and Ollie? They were sweet guys in real life, too and lifelong pals!

  • Great movie love it every Thanksgiving would watch this in NYC

  • YEEEHAW!!!! One of our all-time favorite movies from young years :D :D And still is!!

Boy, that last battle puts SPR to shame, don't it???!!!??? :D:D:D

Thanks for posting this wonderful old movie!

  • i cry when the horns start even santa didn t want them then they kick ass

  • why'd you disable embedding? you'd still get counted for the watchers

  • 2:25 - LOL , wait wait he just went Davey Crocket on that boogeyman haha.

  • How funny

  • i like how the wooden soldiers are like metal besides the head

  • MY ALL TIME FAVORITE KIDDIE MOVIE! =O]

  • I grew up with this movie and I still love it. But let's face it: Barnaby had rape on his mind.

  • @mcbain752 ...most people dont know but the gentleman who played old barnaby was actually 23 years old when he did this movie>> i know its irrevelent to the point but i thought i share the info!!

  • @ajbono40 I never would have guessed. Great actor.

  • Hal Roach had to get permission from Walt Disney to use the "Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf" music for The scene with the Three Little Pigs. And if you noticed the little Captain Of The Guard, that is Billy Belcher who also did the voice of the Wolf in Disneys Three Little Pigs.

  • @StatenIsland121 HA HA HA!!! excellent idea

  • The wooden soldiers need to be deployed to the US/Mexican border. Why is it the Bogeymen remind me of illegal aliens?

  • @WPG718 because your probably retarded

  • @Gundak No I,m not not retarded but I will wager you are a filthy liberal MAGGOT!!!

    How old are you FOOL?

  • @WPG718 Our border laws need to be enforced. That said, the mexicans who are coming here are not demons. There are few opportunites in their country. If anybody with common sense, a sense of self preservation and who wanted to provide for their family would do the same thing that they are doing. Kinda like how our ancestors came to America from England and Europe.

  • @crabula My point is: we should enforce our laws and prevent illegal immigration, deport illegal immigrants but...there is no reason to demonize people who are simply trying to struggle into a better life!! I'm not even a christian (in fact I'm an atheist) but I believe in compassion / empathy.

  • I fucking love this! :D

  • I've watched this movie every single year during the holidays since i was like 8 i love it, does anyone know the name of the black and white movie that is usually shown right after this movie on channel 11??????? its the one where laurel and hardy are on a ghost ship or something like that

  • @lola200611 I forgot the name but theis drunk guy fall into flour and they think he is a ghost

  • @Wheeljack35 @lola200611 it was called "The Live Ghost"

  • the March of the Wooden Soldiers is not only a great movie, but also a great piece of music

  • This Is Still Amazing.

  • Geez Tom Tom, way to fail at saving the day! haha

  • @prettypeggy09 Hes being carried off too !

  • i like the to know the relationship between barnaby and the bogeymen,i love how barnaby turns into a complte nutjob at the end!has blck around his eyes and his hair is in a insane way!

  • Great movie! I love the look on Stan Laurel's face when he looks at the wooden soldiers and it "dawns" on him that he can summon the wooden soldiers! All the warehouse workers know about the soldiers. But, only Stan has the "moment of brilliance"!

I also absolutely loved the look on Barnaby's face when he sees the Wooden Soldiers coming straight for him! LOL

  • I wonder how many people know that the guy who played Silas Barnaby was the YOUNGEST member of the cast at 21 YEARS OLD! It was all makeup. Don't believe it? look it up!

  • So the end of the movie is just a police controlled riot?

  • OMG my favorite movie of all time!

  • I love the look on the guys face when he see's the wooden soldier's coming,

  • tytyty no one wanted them and agree itaint thanksgiving without this first misfit toys

  • tytyty no one wanted them and agree itaint thanksgiving without this

  • i remember watching this when i was a kid at my grandpas house. i think im gonna go find it but i need a vhs player. :(

  • Thanks for posting this - although primitive by today's standards (stop action/kroma Key IIRC), it shows a lot of care in the wooden soldier animation, especially with the differnt camera angles.

  • Walt Disney and NBC TV will never top this.

  • Dear CaryComic, At one time.WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC..aired this film in December of 1959 and WCBS TV Ch.2 in NYC aired this film on"The Early Show"on Christmas Day,1956.."Believe It Or Else?!".

  • Thanx! Great to see after so many years.; although, I remember it in the old B/W, but probably because we ALL had B/W TV @ the time...still bad acid with those Boogey guys! Good job, looks grand! Roberto

  • Now-this is a film that Tim Burton should remake! Johnny as Barnaby and Helena as Old Mother Hubbard.

  • One of the greatest "cavalry arrives to save the day" scenes

  • @titusUVR Damn right !

  • @titusUVR I KNOOOOW! this used to give me chills as a kid. it was some beautiful shit

  • How could you not enjoy this film!!!

  • The "Wooden Soldiers & The Bogeymen"in this classic finale are played by stunt men and athletes..The little boy clutching the leg of the wooden soldier is..Dick Jones..who would go onto greater movie fame as the voice of Walt Disney's"Pinocchio!".."Believe It or Else?!".

  • 1:23 .. Barnaby has the best 'What the f..?." face ever.

  • The front entrance for"The Toyland"Toy Factory warehouse.is..actually..

the front entrance to The Hal Roach Studios Squash courts.."Believe It Or

    Else?!".

  • @143AC How do you know all of this? On another note, absolutely HILARIOUS CLASSIC.

  • Rofl, Barnaby was this *puts thumb and index finger togther* close to winning! Love his sudden lunatic side! xD

My dad got me into this movie, he watched it when he was a kid and every thanksgiving we like to rewatch it. Better then twlight, harry potter, and all that other teen crap out their these days.

  • "Great big eyes... Great big teeth."

  • amazing! how barnaby gos from being a badguy to a full blown stark raving mad child molesting lunatic!lol!

  • Probably because they believe the audience is not there for it.

They show it early in the morning, edited, and colorized.

When I was a kid, they used to show this all the time during the Holiday Season.

  • Love it when the soldiers come out to that music. That music meant that that the men from boggie land were about to GET IT! This never gets old and is a near legend in its own right or is it?

  • this was the highlight of the movie. i wish i could have a couple of those soldiers displayed in my house. that's nice music.

  • A true classic, in every sense of the word. And, that self-readjusting cannon? It must have been made by Acme Industries (a WB subsiduary) . Lol!

  • I love when Barnaby gets hit by the cork from the cannon, and when the piggie hits him over the head. His reactions are priceless!

  • Brings back Happy Memories. *}Five Stars{* Thank You.

  • i love this movie!

  • I like when one of the soldiers loses it's head!!!

  • I remember watching this every year on Christmas with my family when I was a little kid

truly a classic, thank you for posting

  • This definitely is not a Pixar movie. Nevertheless, it's a class.

  • The age is unbelievable.

The "woman who lives in a shoe" was born in 1861.

Before, I believe, the American Civil War!

  • i was always wondering y some of the boogey men were spotted, thers only a few

  • lmao @ 2:15

  • Always loved it as a kid saw it first 34years ago when I was 4yrs. Best part was micky mouse dropping those lil bombs.

  • It used to scare me when the soldiers head came off when i was little haha

  • At 1:22 Barnaby is like WTF ??? --- LOL :>)

  • Thanks a bunch for posting this great film. I think the only time watching it was as a kid back in the 60's.

  • @Ratt1959 Yeah, my favorite of all time. I grew up watching it every Thanxgiving day in the 50s n' 60s, I just saw the film this past Christmas day on WPIX Channel 11 at 1PM. Hopefully, WPIX's showing it every Christmas @ 1PM since, they stopped showing it on Thanxgiving, as they used to.

  • Great movie !!!

This version was colorized in 1991 and by today standards it's very soft and blurry ... I'd love to find the newer 2006 colorized version by Legend Films... I heard it's much cleaner and even rivals the clearity of the original black and white version.

  • This is one of my favorite movies of all time. My nana, grandpa, mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins and I watch this every christmas. My nana and grandpa know every line and we always get excited and point out our favorite parts of the movie even though all of us have seen it so many times. Watching this movie with my family is and always will be one of the reasons why I love the holidays.

  • YES!!! lol

  • thanks so much! made my christmas!

  • It made my also. I think we can agree on a couple of things here. First
