Sir Francis Bryan was such a fun character; they should have kept him on in season 4. Hell, he should have been introduced in season 1 and showed the jousting accident that resulted in him losing an eye.

James Frain is like Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy, HP). He lives to play the bad guy, but you LOVE him for it. I don't think I've ever seen him as a protagonist, and I wouldn't want to.

@m3li55aNyappy Yes, he's one permanently horny womanizer during the 3rd season, but he's also a spineless opportunist, just like Charles Brandon, who would sell his mother if he had a chance to rise in the king's favour.

Cromwell was the most impressive character of the whole series - alongside the king's fool and the warden of the Tower!

I found James Frain 's prestation in "the Tudors" absolutely....perfect. He gave to Cromwell's character something naturally dark, and black, secret, always clever in all situations. He was an hard working man, always loyal and much more tolerant than Thomas More finally. the interesting thing is that even if Cromwell is responsable of many deaths, his character have charmed everybody. When he died, it was the moment in all the serie i was really sad and chocked. i hated Brandon at that moment!

@verobinful ya, i didnt understand why he was so hated! Suffolk only wanted some sort of revenge for making him kill many innocent people. I really felt sad for Cromwell, even those evil men went so far to give his executioner a hangover thus resulting in a bad beheading.

It's interesting, that in the opening titles of seasons 1 and 2 Cromwell doesn't look to the camera, but his glance is wandering and shy. In opening titles of season 3 he eventually does that, although still shyly, and that could represent that he is now more himself than he was before.

The northern rebellion part of season 3 was superb. I really identified with the commoner's rebellion. I'd love to see citizens of western nations once and for all rise up together against the corrupt and hypocritical leadership that claims we live in freedom, yet imposes law after law and surveillance and thought police upon us while they live in relative luxury and impunity. When John Constable was tortured and killed, it annoyed the hell out of me LOL. Yet,history remembers the bigwigs.

season 3 was definately the darkest season of the tudors..this season was dark only because Henry supressed the rebellious rebels during this season. and plus the unexpected death of Jane Seymour after giving birth to Prince Edward V later to become Edward VI King of England.

Jonathan and Colm both make good points-Henry was indeed almost 'psychotic' with power'-and yes rich people close to court definitely did not know if they'd get up in the morning-and have their heads on the block by evening. Cromwell didn't move against Boleyn because it was what Henry wanted!!! Nor did he embark on the religious policies he did without Henry's support!!!

All the stuff JRM says about Cromwell misleading him is crap, Henry knew every thing. He approved it, after all. If JRM is right, and Henry was mislead, then Henry VIII must have been a very weak man.

It really annoys me that after staying pretty true to history for two seasons, there gonna mess it up on the pilgramige of grace...and just when I was reconciled to a thin Henry. James Frain is doing an amazing Cromwell though...he really looks like he's gonna come out of his skin in Season 3.

Exactly. Cromwell was doing Henry's bidding (and what else was he supposed to do? he had to obey his master after all), and really can't be blamed as the puppet master to the whole situation. I don't think it necessarily means they've messed up the Pilgrimage of Grace much though; I think JRM has just got the wrong end of the stick. He seems to give Henry far more slack than the show itself does.

Oh I hope so...because although pretty much all historians agree that Cromwell masterminded the Boleyns downfall, the show showed it as being mainly Henry and if it messes up the Pilgramige of Grace which is probably an even more important event I will be pissed :(

I'll be pissed too...but the show's sympathetic to Cromwell, and they seem to be really amping up Henry's tyranny this season. Particularly since they're showing him smacking Cromwell around.
