@rockngamer32 I really like what Perry did at 1:16; improvising like that is tough. But what Slash did at 2:23- descending quickly and then resolving to the new chord- also takes precision. They're both good at what they do, and not many rockers can employ chromaticism and transition through chord changes as well as those two while still maintaining rhythmic accuracy. Don't compare them with the goal of deciding who's better. Just compare "because".

SLASH without a doubt. Think of the most epic Aerosmith Songs: Walk This Way, Dream On, Etc; now think of the Solos in those song: All of them Weak! Now think of the solos in GnR/Velvet Revolver songs: November Rain, Sweet Child O' Mine, SLITHER - those solos Are EFFING MIND BLOWING. How is there any question? If you want to learn Blue/Rock guitar, you follow Slash, you learn his riffs, you learn his solos. Not Joe Perry!

@Shreddur666 In my opinion, I believe most people would agree vai is much better. However, I used to like him until I saw him playing "little wing" and "voodoo child" with Satriani, Malmsteen. He repeated a lot his famous lick, little new coming out from him. In contrary, Malmsteen is quite good. He is kind of combining what he is good at with the blues. And I like Joe because his solo has feelings in it, such as the solos in "crazy", " what is takes". it is hard to play out that emotions.

Okay, think about how many guitar solos you can remember in your mind and then think of Joe Perry. He's a good guitarist but nothing he wrote is really memorable. I think the biggest mistake Aerosmith ever did was let go of Jimmy Crespo. Just listen to Joanie's Butterfly..........there's no Joe Perry song that can compare to that. But Joe had the look and the attitude.....another Sid Vicious.
