man it must be weird being John Lassetter, I mean he's in such a strange place, he's traditionally trained he loves 2d animation, and works harder than most anybody today to keep it flourishing, but at the end of the day represents what most everything a man he and all of us deeply admire (Hiyao Miyazaki) actively dislikes about where animation is going
@thisisspartacus Im not claiming to know his mind, but I think he looks frustrated because of the language barrier. If John Lasseter were in Tokyo for a Nihongo press conference, he'd be sweating a little too. lol

Miyazaki is a brilliant storyteller, but I kinda wish the lip-synching and mouth movements of his movies would show verbal vocalization, just like every western animation studio shows.
if his movies showed verbal vocalisation just like every western animation studio shows, they would just be like any other western animation studio show.
@Guernicaman Japan's animation might not be as good as the animation in America. That's how anime is as well some are really good but with kind of bad animation. Overall though Disney and Japanese animation is very good.
@futureanimatior depends on what period of disney.....some of them r quite shallow ......japanese even miyasaki animtions comic r not for kids, they r more dimensions in story.......like manager shima series, sees how he runs electronic co. from small potato to chairman of board, facing diff real life economic hardship...
I respect and Lasseter and Miyazaki, but if Lasseter but I'm totally against dubbing voices over foreign films. It just doesn't work well...it's bad enough things are getting compromised in the translation already.
i believe he liked the original language more, but, his aim is to introduce to and attract more people to ghibli films through disney's distribution. plus, in english they get a shot at the oscars for best animation.
I completely agree with KiCreativeStudios. What I'm most concerned about is when the people in charge of the dubbing deliberately change the dialogue, as it can cause a lot of harm to the film's story or its original intention. See the ending of Kiki's Delivery Service, for example.
Steve Jobs, Hayao Miyazaki... John Lasseter's collaborated with a lot of giants.

No offense to the English dubbed Ghibli films but Spirited Away and Howl's moving Castle English dubbed sucked. :(

@algroth89 I think there's a new re-release of Kiki with that line taken out. I assume you are referring to Jjij's last line.

Did John Lasseter just say one of the titles he helped dubbed was "Tales From Earthsea"?

Yeah, and it doesn't help that the actual video's audio is pretty poor. =(
