....and to think that this guy is one of the most well known sociologists in the world is a bit of a shock. I was thinking I may major in sociology, but now I am starting to have doubts.

I think this guy makes alot of interesting comments. But in some ways, he just seems incredibly dumb (such as in certain cases when he has been critical of atheists and in cases when he has justified spanking). I agree that there is not much scientific evidence that spanking has long term negative consequences, but there is also absolutely no evidence that parents "need" to smack their children as Furedi suggests in one of his articles.

@amaqula Gulags and Concentration camps were horrible but very limited - they only affected a tiny fraction of the European population. The medieval church's rule over even the most private aspects of life, however, was totalitarian just like it is islamist countries or North Korea nowadays. You should be aware of the fact that Hitler was a roman catholic and was strongly supported by the church. Stalin was even trained to be a priest. I guess you should really catch up on European history.

@amaqula 2 things. 1st all of the above comments only serve to reinforce what I had originally said about youtube comments, none of them have a damn thing to do with education as the video they are posted to does. and 2nd there is such a catholic state, vatican city its quaint yes. But as Catholic as you're gonna get.

Hitler WAS a catholic, the church assisted in hiding Nazis around the world. The Church beat down things like science, art, education, politics but was cool with war surprisingly.

I mean, you must actually think your youtube channel can have that effect otherwise you wouldn't try. But .... why? I mean, do you do anything else? Of course I do other things apart from Youtube.....but I don't want to tell you. And leafleting is ineffective...as it is time consuming....and Youtube reaches more people. And I have the computer at my fingertips...so why not. But yes...other things and other people are happening too....not just little ol me. LOL. CATHOLIC STATE please!
