  • Nice video! How much did the this entire system run you? Tank, equipment etc not the fish or corals? I'm saving up to convert my fathers freshwater into a saltwater.

  • @persuazn 8g's plus :)

  • ok i want a poster like that 1 of coral and 1 of fish to know who get along with who and inf of them,to put in my wall, where can i get that?

  • @brilly21 Mostly all online retailers sell them, and yes, there are the ones with fish species and the ones with corals too :)

  • alright i read the stuff and im confused, do you know if an ocellaris clown will host anything like a tank bred one

  • @Bechertanks Its a possibility, but tank bread clowns take a lot longer to form that relationship with anemones, and may or may not do it at all.

  • @newyorksteelo thanks man and do you know if a saddle puffer is reef safe for corals, because i just got one and my lfs said it was but idk if i can trust the guy who was working

  • @Bechertanks Not completely reef safe and must be added with caution. I would skip on this fish it were me.

  • @newyorksteelo alright ill keep an eye on it

  • hello, i currently have a 5.5 gallon with a small clown and a yellow damsel, i'm noticing the damsel chasing the clown whenever iut goes near it, which is why i'm getting an anemone, i have a powerhead creating waves, but how much would those uv lights cost?

  • @ZarosS3 This tank is too small to have 2 fish in it, let alone a damsel with its aggressive nature, next to a clown. An anemone would be even worst to add to this little pico tank ans most anemones require a tank that is 30g or more. I would not even bother with setting up a UV in this sized tank buddy, but research the 8 watt bulb types to find the answers you seek on prices.

  • i'm about to start my first saltwater aquarium.. my house is near the sea so i took the water from the sea and also sand.. before i start, i want to ask many people how to start my 1st aquarium.. my aquarium is 10 gallon.. if all the items are taken straightly from the sea do i have to wait for it to cycle like people always do??? do i need to buy any beneficial bacteria if i already have life rock n how long is the waiting period for me to add my 1st clownfish and coral? i also have skimmer

  • @zamzamirrazi Not a good idea at all buddy. If it was this easy, we would all do this. There is a reason why you don't see corals growing in these areas nor do you see reef fish. These public areas are polluted with phosphates and silicates and if you use this sand, your in for some serious algae battles ahead of you. Only area to collect these safely is in the reefs. As for your question on the cycle, please visit my video "How To Cycle A Reef Aquarium" to find the answers you seek. Good luck.

  • Is the Rock Flower Anemone a good anemone for a beginner?

  • @timeassassin92 I would instead go for an anemone that your clowns would most likely host such as the Sebae, or Bubble Tip Anemone. Unfortunately, no anemone is good for beginners but if you are dedicated and follow my advice on my video titled "Rose Bubble Tip Anemone Care" you can be successful. Good luck.

  • Sorry no I can't i don't have a camer but I'm gettin one soon probs, the fish is eating and not itching on things, I'm not definetly sure but he might be spitting out red things out of his mouth, not defo sure though, they also seem to be fighting abit but it's probably dominance, all I can tell you is that it's just a White smudge , sorry :(

  • @MTomkinson96 In this case, the best thing to do here is to research online different disease to try and identify the one your fish may have. Plenty of photos and info and all kinds of disease can be found if you Google it.

  • Hey NYS I bought 2 clownfish yesterday and one of them has a small White smudge\spot on it's eyeball, u don't think it's ich, is this a disease? And is this a big concern and what would you reccomend doing? Thanks.

  • @MTomkinson96 Its hard to say without taking a look. There are so many different diseases out there and most are a concern. Can you make a video on this so I can take a look?

  • @newyorksteelo Moon jellyfish and clown fish can be kept in the same tank with no negative affects.

  • @ballonman124 Really, I wouldn't do it if it were me. I mean it is to my understanding that these critters require totally different environments to thrive in than clown fish do.

  • @newyorksteelo Depends o the tank. If you have a kreisel style tank then fish are out of the question. But if you have a different tank then fish may be an option. However its whatever floats your boat. ;)

  • @ballonman124 My friend, this is not possible. The filtration is completely different, water flow completely different, the water temperature is completely different, its just too many variables that would suggest and recommend to do otherwise. Do the research buddy cause these 2 are not made to co-exist. In a reef, the Moon Jelly Fish would perish due to warmer waters and the filtration would suck it up. In a Jelly fish set up, the clowns would die just from the cold temperatures.

  • I understand & appreciate this video so much more now that I bought an anemone...I wish the LFS told me that the coral was bleached (died or w/e)...I definitely wouldn't have spent $60 on the coral if I knew that...what anemone do u recommend I buy for my maroon clown?

I unloaded a video of just my white LED's at 70% so u can see my tank better...

  • @Springs24 Maroon clowns are notorious for hosting most any anemone it is offered, but he will love either a Bubble Tip or Sebae Anemone, with his absolute preference being a Magnifica. I will take a look when I get a chance and leave a comment if need be. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the reply..

  • Hey NySteelo, I just picked up an lta the other day... Now I know it eats meaty foods, but it actually seems to enjoy the Crab Cuisine I feed my other inverts... Is this ok for the time being in terms of nutrition? It's less messy and he eats it quite quickly...

  • @Gtrplyr1 Yes. You can feed it pretty much anything it will readily consume, but watch it carefully for about an hour or 2 after feeding it cause sometimes they spit the food back out. This can cause havoc in your tank. I recommend you watch my video called "Rose Bubble Tip Anemone Care". In this video I discuss the general care of all anemones in detail. Good luck.

  • for 2 clownfish what gallon size you recommend

  • @TechGuy30001 25g or more, but you could get away with a slightly smaller tank until the clowns grow bigger, and then upgrade later.

  • any lighting system you recomend for a 55 gal tank i want to put an anemone in it, and later corals so yea, budget is $350 for the lighting

  • @MEWTUBEProductions I have a video called "Reef Aquarium Lighting" that contains the answers you seek. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo thanks soo much ive actually spent the last hour watching all your videos currently my tank is 55gal fish only so yeah just trying to do things correct great vids by the way

  • @MEWTUBEProductions Thank you. Glad to be of some help :)

  • @newyorksteelo currently i have t5 fixture zoo med, are all t5 lighting the same in the sense, can i use a coralife t5 in my zoomed fixture

  • @MEWTUBEProductions Yes. You can use other name brand bulbs if they are the same size as the fixture you have, and both fixtures should work out well. The big difference lies in whether the fixture has parabolic reflectors and the bulbs you use. Currently, the best bulbs to use are UVI and ATI brands in my opinion.

  • @newyorksteelo thanks again

  • i was going to go buy reef plus today is that a good coral vitamin additive

  • @allSaLTwater It does what it is supposed to do, but in all honesty not needed if your reef is already thriving. Good luck.

  • Is a saltwater aquarium hard to keep? I have freshwater and saltwater seems kind of daunting, but I would love to have a little clownfish aquarium!

  • @MyFishCare101 It's really not. The difficult part is learning the chemistry of sea water. Once you learn this, its a breeze, if and only if you set up the system correctly. I recommend you watch all my videos as you would be more prepared and aware of what to expect when getting into saltwater. Good luck.

  • One more question please? i got my anemone today and i put it the tank and it moved around and its losing its color it was purple and now its kindaa pinkish its getting whiter any help? its not opening up yet and idont know what to do. Is it scared ?

  • @Mrlalala369 Please watch my video called "Rose Bubble Tip Anemone Care" To find the answers you seek. I cover what to look for, how to care for it, how to buy it, its all there :)

  • Can you touch an anemone?

  • @Mrlalala369 Yes but this depends on the anemone in question. The sting for most common anemones is only potent enough to harm fish but hot humans.

  • Have you used Arabians phosguard and if I get rid of my low phosphates and silicates will my sand look white like yours

  • @allSaLTwater Never used this product, but what I can tell you is that getting rid of your phosphates and silicates is not enough, you must get rid of your nitrates also to not have algae growing on the sand. Good luck.

  • Thanks for pointing that out I actually watched that video shortly after posting that question the video was very good thanks for all the videos I think I have covered every single one of them and look forward to any new ones

  • @saltwaterfan86 Anytime :)

  • OK so i have a question on anemone and stinging corals if i decided to get one my main concern is that it will roll around till it finds a happy place and sting my corals along the way. Is there any way to prevent this? Not sure if it was addressed or not in the comments i read some but there are just so many that i didnt have time to read all of them. By the way Great videos i have watched everyone of them since the other day.

  • @saltwaterfan86 I addressed this question on my video "Rose Bubble Tip Anemone Care". In this video, I discuss how and why anemones roam the tank and also talk about what to expect when you first introduce it to the system. Good luck and if you still have questions after watching this video. I am here :)

  • hey man if you still intrested in framing those posters let me know ill get you custom frames in black to match ur stand n custom frame to fit the size of the posters

  • @MasterTechRepair Awesome. If it comes up near the future that I want to frame them, I will hit you up. Thanks again :)

  • Hey man what is a good cleaner shrimp that can be bought for my tank? I want to buy something coral and anemone safe that is not an agresssive little b-word that ends up on a wendsday morning chomping on the head of my 3.5 in long Jawfish... (ya that happened today R.I.P "Jaws") just another great reason for me to change my system from a predator tank to a coral reef... I had two questions to ask in my next video also I will send it to you it is about anemone and coral identification.thx goodvid

  • @xmazz31x Most likely, he was chomping on your Jawfish's head cause it died. So in other words, it was doing its job of eating and cleaning the tank from possible decomposing matter. You can get a Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp or even better, a Blood Shrimp. Stay away from Arrow Crabs, Mantis Shrimp and Coral Banded Shrimp. Good luck.

  • what is a good host for clown fish that is esey to take care of

  • @famousstunners Probably a Sebae Anemone. make sure it is not bleached though. Good luck.

  • @famousstunners did you mean just anemones or other corals as well? leathers and xenia are good cheap easy to take care of hosts for clowns...but the mucus that clown expels may kill whatever it hosts.

  • @Vizzle1717 Untrue my friend. Its more like the clowns would interfere with the coral expanding and continuously irritate the coral. Not a good idea to have a clown pestering a coral all day and night looking for pretection. This is best left to anemones. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo I dont know what you mean by untrue?

I know at least 20 people with clowns hosting leathers and xenia. Some of those same people have had parts of their xenia or leather die from the mucus of the clownfish but took over a year. Clowns with naturally host something...anything...my black and whites host one corner of my tank and my maroon hosts a small piece of live rock.

  • @Vizzle1717 You stated that the mucus on the clownfish will kill the coral. Untrue. Did not mean that the clown wont host the corals. I clearly mentioned on my post that clowns do host the coral and irritate it causing it not to pen up as it should, but killing it with the clowns mucus is unheard of by me.

  • @newyorksteelo

BUT i agree, why even bother to have your clown host anything other then the anemone...its what nature intended.

  • @Vizzle1717 What I disagreed on was your statement that the clowns mucus can kill the coral.

  • The 90 gallon is amazing. Keep up the great informative videos. Thanks

  • @WestCoastReefs Greatly appreciate the feedback :)

  • Hi newyorksteelo how is the thank doing & listen went the fish is coming to tha tank bro.

  • @carygiovanni Its doing great. I have several other videos released after this one with more current updates. More fish will be added soon after my clown fish have babies so stay tuned.

  • Hey i tried to take the live rock out and burn them off there is just way to many is there any way to kill the aiptasia all at once i heard lemon juice works could i just take the rock out and squirt it all over the rock then rince it out

  • @TheSteven8888 No, cause you have to target the aptaisia individually or it ma not work. Also, squirting the whole rock will likely kill the rock. The bad news here is that this should of been done months or years ago when you first spotted these glass anemones. Now they are all over the place and it is that much harder to eradicate, but nonetheless, if this was my tank, I would kill them all, individually, even if it takes me a few weeks to get them all. Good luck.

  • @TheSteven8888 You can also add some peppermint shrimp and maybe a copper band butterfly to help kill them faster and in a more natural way.

  • Hey thanks for the advise about the glass anemones i was wondering if the aptasia x is safe to use with fish live rock and a few mushrooms

  • @TheSteven8888 No medication is good for a reef however, having these critters is worst than eradicating them in one or 2 attempts and never have the problem again. I recommend you do some research on this product. Good luck.

  • Hey NYsteelo are you on Manhattan reefs? What's your tang name on their?

  • @WORLDofKDIZ I am but when I went to sign in, I haven't done it in so long, I forgot the name and password I made. I am going to have to get back to on this one.

  • Great video as always.......keep up the good work.....

  • @gmoney1961 Will do. Thanks :)

  • 1/4hp is that the same as 1/5hp? Do you think a 1/10hp be good enough for a 90g plus 20g sump with just 216 total watts of light? Thanks.

  • @haivang1 No, its not the same, and you need a 1/4 HP chiller for a 90g system. This is how I have it.

  • Hey, what is the size of chiller hp do you use for your total water system? and what kind of pump do you use to feed it with alone with hose size? thanks buddy.

  • @haivang1 JBJ 1/4 HP Arctica Chiller fed by a mag drive 7. Good luck.

  • great video buddy, does the red bubble tip anemone sting other corals. mine was getting a bit close to my acan so i moved the acan , did i do the correct thing by moving it.

  • @dm002a8686 Yes it does. Keep it away from all other corals in the tank. Good luck.

  • Apparently if u slice a tentacle off a healthy colored anemone and feed it to a bleached one it will be restored back to good health

  • @31668999 I doubt that to be true. What I do know for sure is that these colored anemone love to bud off a tentacle from time to time, causing the new piece of tentacle to settle and grow another anemone. Good luck.

  • I am just wondering is it good to buy powerheads once a year

  • @Aperfectcircle5 No need for it. Mines have worked for years. Just clean them out with water and vinegar.

  • Using GFO and GAC reactor

    Phosphates 0

    Nitrates 0

    Algae and Cyano everywhere :(

  • @muffemod Watch my video on cyanobacteria, and also check out my phosphate videos, my new and old tank syndrome video to find the answers you seek.

  • hi Steelo, i really like your videos and i follow you..Can you take a look at my last video in my channel It's my 58 G + 48G Refugium....That's something wrong,my tenius frag is dead but the acropora still here...the foliosa it don't looks good....the acuarium start 5 months ago..

  • @DevilAle The only person here that can know whats wrong with your system, in you. I will take a look when I get a chance but there really isn't much I can tell you except to test your system. Without tests, we wont be able to determine whats wrong.

  • Great video! Love your tank! The shimmer is awesome from your MH . I ordered the Aqua Illumination SOL blue for my 15 yo son's 80 gallon bow. It is due in the first week of May. Have a Happy Easter Steelo!

  • @MetsRamsFan Thanks. Be sure to keep me posted on how well this LED light fixture works out for you on the long run. Been eying it for quite some time, but so expensive. Thanks again.

  • Good work newyorksteelo!

  • the system is looking very nice!! good video too.

  • @my1941willys Thanks for the feedback :)

  • alright man got my video up....can u take a look and comment if need be for tips and stuff thanks

  • did you keep it by its self our with aouther corals and such

  • @TheFishlord101 By itself on a fish only with live rock system.

  • just to ask what did you do to save your seabae anemone i have t5s on my tank a 65 gallon

  • @TheFishlord101 Fed it everyday, to every other day, mysis shrimp in small quantities. I kept the anemone in a 45g tank with excellent water quality and under power compact fluorescents. In 3 months, the clowns took to it, and in 6 months, the anemone was showing patches of tan brown coloring all over its body. The patches looked blotchy and uneven, but more and more were apparent. In about a year, you can pretty much say that the anemone was no longer white, but a tan color with purple tips.

  • Alright...my dads letting me use his camera to make a video, i'll make a part of the video for the skimmer.....so far so good with the tank

    thanks

  • @Phantomg23 Your welcome.

  • my seabae anenome looks bad and i think hes dieing any suggestins for me

  • @TheFishlord101 Keep it where it gets light and feed it a small little bit daily. Slowly increase the food and make sure it is eating. Your anemone, if bleached, can take 6 months to a year to recover the expelled Zooxanthellae. Good luck and be sure to let me know how it turns out for you.

  • very good advice thank steelo

  • @canonxsi79 Your welcome :)

  • That tank is looking spectacular!

  • @VitalApparatuz Thank you!

  • i don't do water changes for like 2-3 months straight and my tank is just wonderful. It's all about balance!

  • @NCarolina17 Yes, I totally agree. Once you know about the chemistry of sea water, you can dose accordingly and keep the system thriving. Thanks for sharing that and for watching.

  • @Steelo oh, yea, I am gonna put up a sump refugium for it. Thanks :). Oh, and another question, I live in Hawaii, and u can get rocks from the beaches here. But is it a good idea to just get my rock, remove algae and add it to my tank? I just don't want any pests and nuisance. Lol.

  • @808Aquaholic I would only collect rocks from the reefs, not beaches, and where there are lots of corals around. When rock is collected from nature and is uncured, you cannot control the critters you introduce. You pretty much have to deal with it once you find the pests. Good luck.

  • Yo what's up Steelo. Tank lookin awesome. I got a question. Off-topic but, say I wanna get a 125 bow front. Would a trigger sys 36 sump do fine? Or is it a lil too small?

  • @808Aquaholic Any sump refugium is better than no sump refugium. The bigger the better :)

  • i know it isnt about this video but do you know right off hand where i can buy online a purple people eater palythoas

  • @Aperfectcircle5 They sell these online everywhere. Try liveaquaria. Good luck.

  • Did you ever check out the IVS Portal I told you about?

  • @piznimp01 Which portal?

  • How do i get rid of the glass anemones there are quite a few growing in my tank

  • @TheSteven8888 You can try the natural approach by adding Peppermint Shrimps, and or a Copper Band Butterfly Fish. If this does not work, you can try Aptasia X or burn the hell out of those suckers with a lighter outside the tank of course :)

  • i have a reef octopus dual HOB skimmer

    thanks

  • @Phantomg23 Be sure to let me know how well this skimmer performs. Good luck.

  • hey man, nice videos!!! Love this one......sorry i couldnt get my tank up,the camera broke...... anyways i have all my live rock,my cleanup crew,a good amount if fish and some accessories like b-ionic and few different foods. Im selling my koi to my LFS and getting about $50 for them....what do u think i should get(like little things that are life savers) Im getting aquaticlife t5 ho 4 bulb from a website because they dont carry it.....thanks

  • @Phantomg23 Make sure you have some extra salt and carbon in hand in case of emergencies. Also, make sure you have a decent skimmer if you don't already do so. Good luck.

  • i have looked into breeding clown fish before and the are things you need e.g: anemone, which you have and they have hosted, there is one important thing as well and that is a slab/flat surface rock which should be stilted up in a corner so that the female clown can lay it eggs.

  • @THExG0LDxGIRAFFE Yes, you are right in some aspect, but to be honest with you, my black and white clowns used to do it on the back glass and I think these are going to do the same. Or at least I am hoping they do :) Thanks for sharing that.

  • thank you

  • what about the purple tips is that mean something

  • @TheFishlord101 Not really. If you doubt it just read the poster and you will see what I mean. My videos are intended to prevent beginners from making the same mistakes I did when I first started. Don't give up though. You can easily restore it back to health with dedication and effort. Good luck.

  • What media do u put in your phosphate reactor? I'm using a granular GFO and it seems to keep building up an orange material all over the 2 sponge filters inside it, which eventually goes inside the tank clouding it up. The reactor is just a Phosban 150.

  • @nikki1152 I use Rowaphos. I do not use any other brand name, except maybe Phosban media. I am assuming that you have set it up correctly, and have the precise amount of water flowing through it. If set up properly, nothing should be coming out of the reactor, except cleaner water. This is just a small part of my filtration. The powerhouse filters are the refugium and skimmer. Without these 2, my system would suffer no matter how many bags of media I use. Good luck.

  • mine is white with purple tips is that ok

  • @TheFishlord101 Unfortunately, white is not a good sign. If it has a light tan color then it still has zooxanthellae in it and you can easily restore it back to health. If it is bleached white it can take 6 months or so before you start seeing the tan blotches on its white body. In a year, it will be healthy again. As long as the Anemone is feeding you can restore it with excellent water quality and intense lighting.

  • As always, good info man. Seems there is a lack of credible information on youtube. I'm glad there is still some solid vids like these. Well done, boss.

  • @Churchhealzimpact Thank you. Appreciate the feedback :)

  • Great video Steelo. I'm not married but trust me on this one... don't even mention framing the poster in your living room to the wife. Lol.

  • @sdch1000 I already did, and she said hell no lol. I told her that the little corner where my tank located is my man cave and I con do what I want. She said try it lol.

  • Nice Vid! Do you plan on breeding the clownfish?

  • @dimepiecereef Yes. Thats the only reason why I have not added any more fish. I want them to breed and once they do, they will most likely lay eggs every ten days. I am giving them the whole tank to do it, feeding them often, offering prestine water quality, and no predators for their babies. I really want to capture the whole thing on video and release it on YouTube. Let's see what the future holds :)

  • great looking tank steelo and great info I love picking your brain!!!

  • @eyesonyou2ube Thanks. Glad to be of some help :)

  • @jay80sdj Thanks.

  • great video

new into saltwater tank but love the anemones was wondering where I could get a poster like that.

BTW i have a 120gal FOLR tank with 3 clowns, tangs, butterfly, a yellow box fish so not sure what anemones I can put with other fish (will they bother with the anemones) (and get hurt)

  • @keeferkoi Check online. Lots of vender's sell it, including Marine Depot and That Fish Place. Most Butterfly Fish pick on anemones so be careful adding this delicate creature to your tank. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo Thank you for the info

BTW How do you know about That Fish Place its like 1/2 hour from my house

I do have to say that your videos are great they are very informative and helpful

Love the clean look you have in tank and sump

  • @keeferkoi I did not know it was close to your house. I do know that they sell the posters in there cause I have seen them in the book section. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • Nice video man! I have a question.... I just got one of those white anemones with the purple yesterday so the question is: should I let the anemone acclimate like everybody say for two weeks without touching or moving it or should I start feeding it right away? Thanks!

  • @popmarsian I would attempt to feed it a very little amount of food. See if the tentacles are sticky and how it reacts to food. Try a few bits of mysis shrimp. If it eats it and does not spit it back out, come back tomorrow and feed it the same little bit of food again. Continue this on a daily basis and if the water quality is good, and the lighting correct, with a little luck you will begin to see brown patches on the tentacles all over the anemone. Now it's beginning to recover.

  • @newyorksteelo thanks. i try to feed it and everything was good until today i came from work and the anemone looks deflated and it has some long brown string coming out of its mouth... what is that mean?

    thanks again man!!!

  • @popmarsian Watch this video till the very end to find the answers you seek. I mention this in one of my annotations in this video. Good luck.

  • Great vid man. I actually was exchanging e-mails with Anthony last year. He's a super approachable guy with a stupid amount of knowledge in this hobby.

  • @krug1313 Yes. Very famous name in the hobby and just full of knowledge. Thanks for sharing that :)

  • @newyorksteelo For sure. I was contacting what I thought was one of the publishing companies of his book and sure enough he was the one to answer me. We went back and forth about coral farming then he had to leave for Germany. Hope I get that chance again to pick his brain.

  • @krug1313 I want him to sign my posters :)

  • @newyorksteelo I'm sure if you mailed them to him he would and mail them back. I'll pm you his contact email.

  • @krug1313 Awesome. Thanks you :)
