  • @John - Yes, many more mods since. This video was made in 2005 with the stock motor/heads/cam and bolt ons. In 2006 I dropped in a stout 385 stroker motor. Details of those mods can be found in my "New 3" Exhaust for stroker motor" video posted here on YouTube. Youtube will not let me post a URL, you will have to search in my video library.

There are plenty of suspension mods as well - Hotchkiss sway bars, Global West rear LCAs, HAL QA1 shocks all around, springs, etc.

  • I love turbo and imports. But if anybody says a roaring V8 isn't music to their ears, they deserve to be slapped around a bit. Great looking car.

  • These big SS Impalas are potential monsters.

Thank you for not "puttin' dubbs on that bi***" and calling it a day.

Any more mods since this upload?

  • Loooove to watch you throw that 2 ton beast around corners, pipes sound great too!

  • DAMN LOOK AT IT RUN! THING OF BEAUTY!

  • I'm not sure what's better the which black Betty I like more the song or the car!

    Together? Totally sweet!

  • Great vid, beautiful car, amazing sound and I'm also surprised she handles that good!

  • Impala SS has tons of power..Drive this and it is fricken faster then hell around corners

  • Oh she can roar

  • I can listen to it for hours.

  • shit. i'm dreamin' 'bout such wheels. love!

  • Tight curves in american car...

  • what performance mods did you do on it? just got a 94 and I'm trying to get her faster but only simple stuff right now

  • In this video the engine was stock except for 1.6 roller rockers. This run was with opened headers and suspension upgrades included HAL QA1 adjustable shocks and Globals West LCAs. Ring and pinion was upgraded to 3.73s. Tranny was built and coupled with a 2800 Vigilante torque converter. The car now has a 385 stroker motor in it. My more recent videos on this site show the car running with the new motor. Have you checked out the ImpalaSSForum?

  • @LeadSSled Ok, yeah I'm actually a member now. I was checking out AI for ported heads and their package which is like $2000. If i get roller rockers what else would need to be done to keep from parts failing?

  • The next weakest link will be the transmission if it is stock. I'd run it until it breaks, but it likely will kill either the sunshell or 3/4 clutch pack after adding more power. When you do your performance rebuild of the tranny, it is a good time to add agood torque converter.

  • @LeadSSled Yank was a recommended one. Don't know if there are any other good brands but sure there are.

  • Why stop the production of impala ss in 96

  • In their infinite wisdom, GM decided that the plant that made them would be better off making high-profit Silverado pickup trucks. They sold a lot of trucks over the next 10 years, but that kind of short-term thinking is why they are now "Government Motosr"...

  • wha are you using for exhaust?

  • In this video - open Clear Image Quad One headers. When the headers aren't open, it blows through a Clear Image "header back" system - 3" true duals with crossover pipe and SpinTech mufflers. You can hear that exhaust on some of my autocross videos.

  • I LOVE THOSE FAT ROAD PIGS

  • She surely is a pig... but a fast one. I took her to Atlanta Dragway 2 weeks ago and she made an 11.89 @ 116 mph pass on a 125-shot. Not too bad for an autocross car. :)

  • DAMN thats pretty friggen good!!!

  • Race weight was 4415 lbs. :) Video is now posted in my video library...

  • sick

  • sweet vid you sure know how to drive your SS like an animal

  • This is beautiful, a 96 impala that is a beast. I love this video can't wait to get mine.

  • Well mate, I'm impressed. A: You're on a track..total points for that. B: you can wrangle about 3t of metal to pretty well do what you ask of it ! (dang that hat at the chicane!).

    Nice steering. 8-)

It did sound pretty cool too.

  • you really make the boat move !! nice video

  • crown vics cant touch these period

dont know how they stand up up to the new chargers the cops have

    i miss my 9C1 (BEASST)

  • No wonder the police in OKC had a REAL hard time catching one of these.

  • hmm u hit every cone out there...kool car....

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!

  • Cool video!

  • i love imports but this is one of my favorite domestic cars

  • It is a lot of fun watching a big sedan like that slink its way into and out of the corners quickly. I have a '94 Caprice with Bilsteins, heavy duty springs, the 9c1 rims and Firestone Indy's. It handles remarkably well for a big sedan. Looking at this video I'd like to imagine that was my big Caprices handling those corners.

  • LeadSSled, I gotta say your car looks great everytime I watch it.

  • Thanks for the kudos! I hope to get some more recent racing video of the car sometime this summer. I've got a few events on the schedule.

  • I had a 68 OLds Delta Custom, stock with a 455 cubic inch engine that cruised at 80, a huge boat, really loose in the rear, so we poured concrete back against trunk, re did the carpet and tightened the leaf springs. We didn't need anti sway bars anymore and it got rid of the roll on mountain corners. That thing was so comfortable it was like driving your couch down the road with a back seat. You could fit 6, 6 foot people in that car and you were still comfortable. White with a Navy Landau.

  • The last big beautiful Chevy.

  • What a classic!

  • Was that completely stock?

  • No, not quite. The engine was stock except for 1.6 roller rockers. This run was with opened headers and suspension upgrades included HAL QA1 adjustable shocks and Globals West LCAs. Ring and pinion was upgraded to 3.73s. Tranny was built and coupled with a 2800 Vigilante torque converter.

  • Man, I had an SS, sold it for 9,400 I'm so sorry I sold it lol, been looking for another but I can't quite find a decent one. Besides my ex took everything but my STi and a rotting old Jeep Grand Cherokee. I kept the TV too =P

  • good shit

  • that thing sounds great on take off man...

  • oh hell yea...its the shit...what you running the normal LT1 modded?

  • When that video was made, the car had the stock LT1 in it - stock cam and the heads have never been off the motor. I was running with opened headers though. The car now has a 385 stroker motor in it. My more recent videos on this site show the car running with the new motor.

  • go on black betty, have it out, go on black betty, ramblin.. go on black betty

  • dope as in..cool sick badass

  • That car is DOPE

  • Not a term that I'm familiar with. What is "DOPE"?

  • DOPE!

  • AWESOME! Is that a 96? You should pt that up on the Car Crazy Central Community

  • Yes, that is a 96. It has been modified with a much higher HP engine since that video. See my other videos for details. I am not familiar with the Car Crazy Central site. I'll have to see if I can track it down. Thanks to all for the nice comments

  • that looks vary fun.

  • oh shit man - nice!

  • oh i just wet my pant´s

  • cant help yo uthere

  • sounds sooo nice

  • truly bad-ass car, but it was just all over the track takin out cones and whatnot... but still pretty car and great sound...

  • impala was designed to kill all cars at the stoplight. and i don't know what you're talking about but this car had great handling for its time.

  • that car was a boat and it handled well for its class which is all fine n dandy, i give chevy props for that but, it wasnt "great to beat all classes"

  • It wasn't designed for a road racer. Like most of the big American cars it was for looks and off the line in a quartmile. If you want handling in an American car go with Viper, Vette, Stealth maybe even the new Mustangs, but really awesome is the retro Ford GT. Now that's a good handling vehicle.

  • Anybody can go fast in a Vette, Viper, or Mustang. I wanted to be a little different. You can't throw a rock without hitting a Mustang or C5 Vette around here. You are correct - it is an uphill and expensive battle. But is sure is fun passing those "handling American cars" on the road course. :)

  • Sure is. You're sure right about the Vette's and Mustangs. Shoot there are 3 mustangs and 2 vettes on my block alone. They're everywhere. The kids with their little rice burners aren't too far off for handling. Those little things really scream and they do handle. I've seen some of these kids drift around corners and they hang tight. I hate to see them racing because it's so dangerous. It's sad to say but the imorts are more economical and handle better than our cars.
