Buddy of mine did this on the original nes a few years back with no game genie as well. Heard rumors way back in the day that this was possible, but i when i saw my buddy do it i was convinced. Good vid!

@djsmiker He said this is the NES *VERSION* of the game. (In other words, this isn't the version of SMB that appears in SMB Allstars or other releases). He wasn't implying that it was actually played on a NES. Just that this is the NES version as he doesn't know whether it can be done in later releases. As far as I know, jumping the flagpole is not possible in later releases.

What kind of capture card did you use to make this, it really looks clear, did you also use some special S-video hookup, or did you use the old RF Switch, Audio Video cables or somehow direct link it. It looks like a emulation quality, for my videos I can't get that type quality.

if you play this map faster the wall ends with a black wall, try play this small the whole time, if you play it small you will run faster then if you play it big, then you will see that the never ending wall will end with black only with the original Nes Version. i have thoe never tryed to jump during the run in the never ending wall that accualy ends with black you play it fast enough.. (if you jump during the run in the never ending wall you might explore even more hidden things.

I downloaded New Super Mario Bros onto my R4i card and noticed a cheat called "Super Jump" which basically allows you to fly.

By the pole, press A and hold for 20 seconds then press right on the control pad.

When you see Mario again, he will be on the other side of the pole!

I did this several times. No one ever believed me but girlfriend did see it lucky for me and now we are married. Thats how much power ' jumping the flag pole' can help your love life. ;) lol...anyway...what happens is you just keep running..there is nothing else behind the flagpole only the never ending castle wall, eventually time runs out. I always wondered if it was a glitch or put there by nintendo to frustrate players like myself who sat there for hours untill i finally did it.
