  • the story of how i came to listen to the J5 "I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style And so I came to see him and listen for a while. And there he was this young boy, A stranger to my eyes, Strummin' my fate with his fingers, Singin' my life with his words. Killing me softly with his song, Killin me softly with his song. Telling my life with his words."
  • I miss Michael ........

  • @Lachito1000 well +1 here

  • I always loved this song, but woaw, when Michael singing this, I even loved it more & more!

  • This is my fav song but Ive never heard this version. Its absolutely beautiful!!!!

  • Very Very Beautiful.

  • I love when Jackie starts singing Danny Boy it really fits in.

  • @ladymusiclover Me too. In fact I think they all sound really nice, even Jermaine and I don't really like his voice all that much. As a group they had really great harmony, especially on their slow songs. One of my favorites is Good Times. Here's the link =omDzmUOZyzQ

  • @marcia7523 Oh I love Good Times. Thanks for the link..

  • Did they ever release this version on an album?

  • I listen to Michael Jackson all day every day

  • @gothamjediknight me too!

  • missing Michael... l.o.v.e.

  • im inlove with this voice of Michael..

  • Which one of em sounds like Bill Withers?

  • @thegoodusernameman is jackie

  • i never knew this was their song too ,

  • They sang THREE songs in this one bit, obviously 'Killing Me Softly' and then a mix of 'Danny Boy' and 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix'. I honestly wouldn't have known this unless I'd looked up the bits I didn't understand why they were singing. Gotta love 'em!

  • @rocboyz00 the song is about how a musician is playing something that connects really deeply with the singer. it's not a love song. but even if it was, who gives a f*ck..?

  • whos that singin at the begging cus its kinda gay if its michael cus hes talkin about a guy?

  • @rocboyz00 he's doin a cover foo. When u sing a cover, u dont change the words

  • @sschi oooh iight

  • @rocboyz00 killing me softly isn't a love song.

  • @rocboyz00 killing me softly isn't a love song. even if it was, its just a song, it's not that serious.

  • @rocboyz00 itz jst a cover and the jacksons was an all boy band so....there's no girl in this band...so jst think about it......O_o..

  • kitoko trop

  • Amazing!Thank you!

  • where can u find the lyrics to this song???

  • @unexplainableluv4mj google...

  • there is a full video to this song i remember watching it i thinks its under jackson medley it from the tonight show

  • That explains why I love this song to pieces...it's originated from the Jackson Five!!

A-HA!! I knew there where something....

  • @hilari23 Roberta Flack wrote this song, the Jacksons just covered it. Admittedly, they did a great job of it and also added some lyrics, but Roberta deserves credit for creating the original song, which is probably the one you heard initially.

  • @warriorofwrestling Roberta Flack didn't write this song. It was writin by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel and first performed by Lori Lieberman in 1971. Roberta Flack then covered it in 1973 and her version is what made this song such a big hit.

  • @Rice8021

You're right. Roberta rarely, if ever writes her own songs. Most of her songs(like this one) are, in fact ,cover versions.

KMS was originally a folk song by Lori Lieberman, like you said.

Other cover songs by Roberta Flack

"The First Time.." originally by Peggy Seeger

"Set The Night To Music" -originally by Starship, RF's cover is an almost exact copy of the original.

  • @hilari23 it orginated from Roberta Flack but the jackson 5 jst covered it but i think this and the fugees' version are the best

  • @mjlover4ever098

Actually, it originated with folk singer Lori Lieberman, who happened to see Don Mclean in concert and wrote a poem based on her experiences. Gimbel and Fox transformed her poem into a song for Lieberman to record. 2

re-gendered versions by Perry Como and Bobbly Goldsboro followed(as "KMS With HER Song")

Ms. Flack happened to be on a plane when she listened to Lori's original. She loved it so much that she knew she wanted to sing it herself. Rest is history!

  • @cmulwee001 ummmmmm.......ok then

  • @mjlover4ever098

Well, if you're interested check out the original by Lori Lieberman. It's my personal favorite. She puts a lot of feeling in the song. Plus you'll hear the song as coming from the person who actually lived it, as they say.

  • @cmulwee001 ummm....i'll check it out

  • @JamieThomasC, how are you going to tell me, who I have not heard,I heard many guitar players play! Tito is just as good as anybody,Tito been playing guitar since he was 8 years old! How many guitar players you know who was seen playing guitar at age 8 and his guitar playing is recorded at age 8, goggle Steeltown Records! Shut up and sit down when grown folks are talking! HA,HA,HA!

  • Comment removed

  • @ChristopherSKornuc, thai is Tito Jackson playing guitar, one of the best guitar players in the history of music!

  • @etyvnio LOL YOU WHAT, you clearly haven't heard any other guitar player rofls sit down

  • @etyvnio yeah he played this song when they played their first gig in las vegas

  • The guitar riff at the beginning of this song is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. I would love to loop it and make a song to it. I Still cant believe that The king of Pop died more than a year ago, or even at all. And when i say The king i mean the king. Rest in peace Michael.

  • @ChristopherSKornuc were thankful that at least we still can hear this original music.

  • @ChristopherSKornuc What other KING, there is only ONE. Long LIVE the Michael Jackson.

  • GO MICHAEL GO

  • The original version is from Robertha Flack. That's her song, not Michaels

  • @Sparie1 actually the original version is from this white women named lori lieberman, then robertha flack covered it and then the fugees and so on and so forth

  • @Sparie1 i heard it was some white lady song first libie something

  • Does anyone know who is singing after MJ (?) says, "and this is his song"? Because whoever it sounds very good to me, he has perfect pitch and/or tone.

  • @marcia7523 Sounds like Jermaine.

  • @psteiskal79 You think so? If it's him then he sounded better than he ever has to me because I don't really like his voice that much. Thanks for replying :)

  • @marcia7523 There is a video on youtube that exists of this. They cut it off just as Jermaine was about to sing that part. So it is him. The video is Michael Jackson - Killing me softly and it was posted by RebEliiz

  • @psteiskal79 Thanks :)

  • jackie had a nice voice

  • Comment removed

  • wow I wasn't totally sure it was really them until 5:07. No mistaking Michael's voice there!

  • great

  • woowwwwwwwww didn't now this one !!!

  • ok, is it just me or does tito straight look like joe in the first picture??

  • Great, thank you for uploading

  • i like the fugees version betta

  • @jenjen12345653 Me too. This one puts me to sleep.

  • AWESOME ~ !

  • O that heavenly voice. Michael I miss you.

  • perfection-

  • Thank you.

  • This is not the full version. The Jackson 5 are singing a medley. Btw this is from the Tonight show.

  • Oooooo Thanks a million!!!

  • I never knew this existed and I will admit I didn't believe that this was a legit video but after I heard Michael's beautiful voice, I knew it was real!

  • Michael sounds like he's 14-15 in this one.

  • @cleanhomer

dont take this the wrong way, why was mikes voice deeper when he was a kid? just sayin..

  • @ThisIsCyfe Cuz he cut his nose smaller for a higher pitch. The new nose was BAD for his image, and unnecessary for his voice (he was very creative, he could've done something with a deeper voice)... but it was his nose & his voice, I guess.

  • @ThisIsCyfe His voice wasn't really that high. He thought it would add 2 his mystic I guess. Yrs ago Chris Tucker & Ed Murphy said MJ had a deep voice. They told the truth, but people just laughed it off as a joke. Lisa Marie said it also N an interview. I like his authentic voice. It came out during concerts at times & if U haven't seen it yet on here at the JB tribute on 06 BET awards. I love listening 2 You Rock My World at the beginning when he speaks, it's very nice n sexy (if U R A girl).

  • @marcia7523 what interview was it hun x

  • @xXxMJ4LIFExXx It was in an issue of Rolling Stone years ago, however they repeated the part of the interview where she speaks of his voice in a more recent publication. It's in the special commemorative issue with MJ on the cover called A Tribute to Michael Jackson. Look on page 87 if you have it. If you don't, then let me know, I would be more than happy to quote to you what was said.

  • @xXxMJ4LIFExXx Did you find it? It was interesting what Lisa Marie said, yet it doesn't change my feelings for MJ. It was rather refreshing actually, not that I thought he was a saint. However it kinda tickled me picturing Michael doing the things she said he did.

  • Love this verison

  • he sound so good when he stars singing the chours

  • @utubesucksheha why do you think that?

  • Like it. <33

Fugees's covered it, just like the Jackson 5 did. Haha!

  • Wow, beautiful.

  • I love this song just listen the way he sing it

  • they did this song first?

  • amazing !!! The way he sings is absolutely magic !!! It's tragic that he died so young. His tragedies show true genius !!! I miss the King of pop very much !!! !!! !!!

  • Michael sang so effortlessly his whole life. God how can so much talent be in one person? Not to mention his dancing

  • don't you just love running across these kind of things this is BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • holy sh!t i never even knew this song ever existed, wow its like OMG its really good, i freakn lve dis song

  • This gives me chills. It's so sad that it took Michael dying for people to finally shut up about the molestation allegations. It's so easy to make those things stick, so if he was acquitted once and not even charged the second time, with so much evidence in his FAVOR, then he was innocent, nothing more than a man whose childhood was robbed by his asshole of a father, a good man, even if he had his issues, a caring person, an incredible singer.

  • wow how'd they start singing danny boy

  • almost cried listening to this.

  • WTF...they did this song first?

  • Amazing......The Jackson 5 is the best group I have ever heard. Especially with Michael at the center of everything. He is truly missed but I know heaven is his home. His heart was filled with the heavenly love God bestowed within all who will accept his only begotten son "JESUS CHRIST"

  • My God this is one of my favourite songs of tHE 70's I love you guys THE JACKSOn 5 ear, I miss it, I have your poster on the wall of my bedroom when I was only jsut your age, how's that??? I grow up with you, admire, laugh and cried.....Michael you know what, you're GREAT!God Bless you all!

  • I haven't heard them sing this song before. I like it! :-) and I like hte acustic sounds too.

  • thx for sharin dude!! love ya n all!

  • that song brings tears to my eyes (By the time I get to Phoenix and Danny Boy)

EXCELLENT RENDITION OF ALL 3 SONGS!!!!!!!1

  • i like the Fugees's version

    RIP Michael Joseph Jackson

  • Eterno Michael!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is amazing, i love mjs seventies voice and DAMN.. im sorry.. he just looked really good then (too bad he didnt think so)

  • @Veo17 Well this is what happens when throughout your adolescence your teased about your looks..Especially by your father.. Such a shame though.

  • @ladymusiclover yeah it is. but im not saying that he didnt look good in recent years i realized it may have sounded like that :)

  • @Veo17 Oh right.. That's fine :)

  • michael kills his part in the chorus. beautiful.

  • Beautiful Michael. Wish there was a clearer version! Most of the world thinks of you, as that "young boy" now, and cry for you. Bless you Dear Michael forever!

  • @sparklingmichele Beautifully written ...

  • just foud this wow

  • wow i love you michael

  • Beautiful voice my sweet angel. Will see you in heaven one day. i love you.

  • Do you have the mp3 file of this song??? Please send it to me!!! I will improve its quality...

  • @Miguel11092001 you can make one on that youtubeonlineconvert thing

  • Thank you for posting !

  • hey, to be honest, i've been a jackson 5 fan since i was like three years old, and i never knew that they did this song. i swear i thought it was lauren hill and the fugees, and i am 25 now, so that should tell you somethin. music is great isn't it? you always find out somethin new.

  • actually they never really recorded this song. This is just the audio of a live performance they did on the Tonight Show hosted by Bill Cosby. They probably performed this medley during their Vegas shows in '74.

  • I love Michael.

  • nice channel icon. he looks hot in that picture.

  • Jackson5 ' s version is beautiful as well, Michael's voice was soooooooop soft.!

  • Jackson5

  • OHHH, It is Killing me sooooftly. God, my tears ....."(

  • nice

  • Beautiful!!

    Thanks so much! ;)

    *Aixa

  • I love this song and this versoin is beautiful

  • Please, both versions are great for their era and audience.

  • beautiful much like michael,

your legend will live on no matter what

if you see us now know that no-one should even try to match up to your legacy.

    R.I.P KING MICHAEL JACKSON

  • damm man michael jackson and the jackson five were a legend man R.I.P michael we all miss you

  • You know when I upload pics using iMovie the quality stinks too, I wonder why is that.

  • They never should have left this song around for anyone (ever) to hear this. This song's DNA says female performer please ALL over it. This surely wasn't poppa joe's idea.

  • @DaKiddB it doesn't really sound gay if you listen to the lyrics

the song is about the singer(Jackson 5, Roberta flack etc.) hearing a man sing a song that really touched them since it was about their life

ps. this song was originally written by Lori Lieberman who wrote it about a guy(Don McLean) who sung a song at a place she was at that touched her

next time listen to the lyrics it makes music more meaningful XP

  • @oneinamillionxp I kno what the song is about, I just feel like this wasnt made for another man to sing....Still think Lauren Hill and the Fugees killed it

  • actually roberta flack didnt sing it first; she popularized it after someone else

  • @JapaneseWolf17

Song: Killing Me Softly with His Song

    Singer: Lori Lieberman

    Album: Lori Lieberman (released 1972)

    Composer: Charles Fox

    Lyrics: Norman Gimbel

The song didn't get popular until Roberta Flack covered it in '73.

  • Wait so you mean that Alicia Keys didn't sing this first!!! WHOA!!! lol

    I'm behind!! hahah

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Alicia keys!?? You're kidding right?? HEHE you must be really young hehe...awee...if anything I thought you would have thought the fugees sang it first! lol :p

  • actually it was sung by roberta flack then the fugees

  • yes i know lol...i was telling the other person that I "thougt they" would have thought it was the fugees...NOT Alicia Keys lol

  • @morgankbsbfan Other tidbit: The lyrics were written in response to singer-songwriter Don McLean, in particular his song "Empty Chairs."

  • I did not know this was the Jacksons' song. I always thought this was the Fugees' song. The Jacksons are an inspiration to a lot of people especially to me. They are more than icons to me. I love you Michael always.

  • Roberta Flack sung the song first

  • hey, do you like piano music!? then watch to ym piano cover

  • Soothing, peaceful and calm-like. I never knew they also sung this song.

  • I love this :)

  • this right here is good shit no offense but the fugees dont come close

  • @piglatin9 i lik the fugees version better to tell the truth

  • @OfficialMuSIcKLover alot of people do and i like the fugees too i was listenin to it earlier but i like the slow jam

  • @piglatin9 Did the fugees cover this?

  • @bodinian offcourse, everything made after the 90's is stolen
