My best game as the saxons was when i trapped all the romans on the bridge with a double sheild wall : D they ran one end, lost a few men, ran to the other... repeat. I took 3 casualties and they took no survivors, and over a thousand casualties : D

In fact, the Cherusks and other tribes that were lead by Hermann (or Arminius) were the ancestors of the Saxons, and they beated the Romans in the Teutoburger forest, so the Romans never got to the north coast of Europe.

they apear when there is not a roman province in the island, and they are supoused to "reconquer"( or whatever) the island

Anyone know exactly what the effect of the shield wall is? Is it mostly used defensively or does it have some offensive capability? If you make units assault with shield wall selected, is there any change in performance?

The shield wall description:

The unit position itself in position, presenting an almost-impregnable front to the enemy as shields are overlapped. This grants a massive defensive bonus, but means that the unit is vulnerable if attacked in the flanks or rear. Units in a shield wall formation can still move, but they are slow and not quite as defensively effective.

I like the ambush, but you should have placed more units in the forest and out-flanked the Romans with your cavalry units, which would have cut off their escape. I would have 3 infantry units and 2 cavalry units in the forests on both sides. I would have a shield wall formation between the forests, so any attempted out-flanking movement by the Romans would be massacred by the ambush units on both sides.

(Cont.) Your main battle line was too far from the ambush site, so all the good you did with the sneak attack, the romans were able to return on you tenfold. (and they did) You lost 3 brave cavalry units that should have lived a bit longer. if you want to do an ambush, keep your main force close enough so that when u launch the attack, your main force can fall on the enemy like a flood to end it. Good battle overall, and keep the videos coming, so armchair generals like me have somthing to do.

First things first, good battle overall. u had the right idea with tactics, they just lacked perfect execution when i first saw you planning that ambush, i was all "OMFG yes!" But when you sprang it, i had to agree with SolAurum that they would have been more usefull in another position. (cont.)

Now I'm drunk when I'm writing this, so go easy. When your troops were hiding in the forest to attack the appraoching army, I would have attacked the cavalry in the rear, instead of attacking the front infantry which would lead the cavalry to attack me as I'm attacking the infantry. I also would have positioned my left cavalry to the rear of the front line so that I could suround the attacking romans and assault them from the rear.

If the cpu control a pagan factions and take over a christian city the city will be christian but this will cause penalty culture and there will be rioting

hmm They tare them down I think but a large amount of that town is still christian therefore the Ai has a chance of rebeling against the pagans

I have a question: If an AI controlled faction that is Pagan takes over a place that is Christian do the Christian shrines convert that faction or des the Pagan faction tear them down?
