I'm posting this using the simple "HTML Viewer" built into Puppy 5.0, the entire operating system and applications running completely in memory, booted from the CD-ROM drive on a 6 year old IBM server with a trashed RAID that lay in the bottom of a wiring closet, clogged with dust and dormant for a year...until now.

This machine went from ecycle candidate to back in commision in just a few minutes. Even the PS/2 rollerball mouse is happy again (the kids were amazed at such an archaic device).

My lowest-spec comp is a 400 MHz (256 MB RAM) Gateway from 1999 that is now rolling across the Internet like a tank, after 6 years of decommissioned status.

Linux commonly pronounced Linus says, "Leenooks" or "lean-ooks"

"Americanized" pronunciations for "Linux" English would dictate that it be pronounced as "Line-uks" (or "Line-iks", which are similar enough for me not to differentiate between them)

"Lee-noos", "Lee-nooks", "Lie-nus", , "Lie-nuks", "Lin-ucks"

It does, however, sound more like "Unix", which is probably the reason it came about.

It's has to do with what part of the the world you live in....

No... Puppy Linux it's so heavy on 64 Mb of Ram... You should try with Damn Small Linux. It looks uglier but has all the essentials functions of a modern OS.

ah... i don't know, have 2 pc... 1 at 2ghz with 1gb ram, the oter 1 has 560mhz and 218mb ram... but puppy linux is made to tun onn old pc... (win 98=700mb puppy linux=70+ / 100- mb)

Using puppy linux is great as long as you dont try to connect to a security enabled wireless network. Other than that is does everything Windows does for free and in less memory.

I got a p4 computer, and it works great on it too. I can either boot Puppy from CD, or use Windows. And Puppy 4 lets you save everything from your Puppy session to your HD, so that when you restart Puppy, everything is as you left it. And you can remove the CD after it boots if your files are on your HD, or other media.

Newbs (ISO Recorder) is a real quick & easy tool to burn a iso in xp.his unique & great piece of software let's you make/record .iso images. Basicly it ads the abillity to record .iso images using the recording software that is allready built into windows xp. But it does not record dvd images, It only records .iso cd images. I Love this Distro because it is great for older computers, it breaths new life into them & it is so small that it runs in memory atleast while I am using the live cd. I just love Puppy Linux. The network connection configuration tool works better to me then the major distro's. People do not throw out your old pc's, just install puppy linux on it & you will feel like you are working on a 3GHZ intel duo.I know that is hard to believe, but just try it. You will be surprised how fast it is.Enjoy!

Puppy linux is has superb wireless configuration tools. Only puppy and linux mint (out of several distros I tried) would get my wireless card working properly. I used puppy to find out which driver i should use for a usb wifi interface. Really grrreat
