@aguythatlikesipods the point of a ssd isnt to use it as a main hdd... you put your os in it, which will make your whole system faster and prolong the life of your hdd.
keep in mind that the hdd constantly spins so u can use the osm mean while the sdd cuts down the os and some of your most used apps. meaning longer life on your hdd and faster system. (so you only need to buy the smallest sdd to have an effective system.)
@XxhilfmirxX Well still its too expensive and I'm cheap :P and also i heard that the lifespan of SSD's are short(er) compared to normal spinning disk drives. My friend's OCZ SSD was corrupted like in a couple of months .I found an old 1990's computer in the garage and it still works. All the files are still there running windows 98 and it uses normal SATA spinning disk hdd. Plus I'm a very patient guy. (sort of)
@aguythatlikesipods if his corrupted that quick he was doing something wrong. this "shot life span" is somewhat true though but the same lengh of time can be applied to a hdd that is on constantly. you can buy ssd for around 1dollar per gig which isnt too bad.
I bought an intel 120 gb ssd for about $300. They are worth the money if your a pc gammer. They really cut your load times in half. It also depends on if all of your pc components are up to date. No need for super fast ssd if your creeping along with a low amount and slow cpu.
@StephenBryan27 Actually it helps a lot no matter what... :)
When that is said.. I have a 2600K OC'd to 5 Ghz and a GTX 580 lightning running @ 950 Mhz on the core in crysis 2.. And im running about 42 frames at minimum... Problem is my HDD when loading things it drops in frames.. -.- It's really exspensive in scandinavia but i really need to find a SSD to fit my system.. cuz it's a huge bottleneck at my system at those speeds...! ¤_¤
With that price I better go with 7200 RPM over SSD, just few sec better not so cool for DESKTOP. I would go with ssd in laptop but that too not so soon as prices are very high.
@kickassdj Agreed whole heartedly, I'm not about to fork over 120 bucks for a decent SSD just to save a few seconds off my boot time. And a second off a program load.
Note: These computers have identical hardware configuration (the monitors and the desktop background are the only differences. The monitor on the left just so happens to come out of sleep mode faster than the one on the right, causing it to look like the machine is starting to post before the other one.
ssd is less reliable than conventional hard drives, that's why we have the same technology for over 50y
