Why not have a shield, or what to call it that could focus the "stream" and replace the robotic arms with a scoop instead..? I understand the fun in it, but it's not a very practical construction for industrial use & purpose.
Add a belt-stopping laser sensor at the end, giving the claw time to get to it. Or, to keep rolling, use a plastic guard instead. If the guard has too many things pressing against it, then it can trip a switch to stop the belt until it's completely cleared. For bonus points, it could log the event, with the event logs feeding back into monitoring systems which adjust the average belt speed in the long term and page a human if the guard has not been cleared in sixty seconds or so.
Low cost - so you just a buy another one to take care of the rest. Notice that the robot sometimes disturbs the objects. This does not lead to further errors. Always better to miss a few than to start chasing strays when a new batch can appear any time.

slow down the belt/line so the bots can keep up... Or reroute anything missed so it doesn't go wasted
