  • His remains were found and buried. ....His lower legs were fractured badly. He lay mummified where he fell.

  • These days climbers go up everst on a sort of a roped highway with scientifically manufactured gear and still cannot make it.

Mallroy went up with standard cotton and wool clothing custom leather boots with crampons but not the freeze proof, bullet proof boots people use today and still made it way up there.

My hats off to the early climbers of Everest. They were the real mountaineers.

  • @MrJackpotJoe worth remembering, too, that they had to walk to Everest from Darjeeling, skirting Nepal

  • The first time i have ever seen someone smiling or naked in a old black and white photo!

  • I also recently read the book by Jeffery Archer. I am spell bound.

  • He made it.

  • Just read the book by Jeffrey Archer. Liked seeing the photos, but it's all very sad.

  • George Mallory loved taking baths in rivers and streams being nude. Those times it was nothing shocking for his mates to see him walking and swimming nude. He felt comfortable with it.

  • I know, bit weird i agree ! Can't explain, sorry mate - just George larking about i guess ! Thanks for being my 1st ever comment though !

  • Can someone explain the nude backpacking shot?

  • @kfox47 hmmm bit of a worry that lol

  • @kfox47 Ahh yes, this shot :-p ... Somervell, Wakefield and Mallory had to cross a river. So Wakefield took off his shoes, Somervell his trousers as well and Mallory ... well, you can see it in the picture!
