Were you bump-firing? I don't think it goes full-auto. After my felony stop the other day I've been paranoid so I'll go with CA model (especially since I live in Cali).
Question - I want one of these really badly, and I want exactly what you have in this video. On the Kel Tec website it says the CA model only comes with a 10 round mag, but you have a 30 rd mag here. Can you buy the CA model with a 30 round mag instead of a 10? (I don't live in California)
@wayfaerer320 Nice thing about the SU-16s - they all use standard AR15/M16 mags,so you can buy whatever you want. The CA is designed specifically for Cali laws, so is only shipped w/ 10 rounders but will happily accept whatever other mags you may have/buy.
@wayfaerer320 They are sold (if purchased new) with only the three stock ten-round magazines. However, the weapon can take any STANAG magazine (or all of them that I have tried) which are the magazines that the M-16 / AR-15 series of firearms take, and are widely available and fairly affordable.
@iAREanthonyyy possibly... i think the ammo i was using had a big part in it too. the military cartridges are loaded a little hotter so there's more powder burning/ more flash
Mostly it's the camera and when i was shooting it... It was dusk out when i took this so the the camera was taking a longer "exposure" for each frame of the movie, making the odds of catching each flash much higher and making each one seem brighter.
so this is the kel tec su 16ca as in the california legal model? obviously this is semi-auto...i want to make sure i can get a semi auto in california. anyone who can answer my question it would be greatly appreciated.
@DoctorSess Yeah, this is the CA model, and in my opinion is the best of the SU-16 series! I am in Cali too, and I got this from a dealer here so you are good to go on the legal front. Just don't put a flash suppressor or a forward grip on it and you will be golden.
@BucketPukes1969 It's true lol, but they are mags that I had legally before the ban on hi-caps was in place. Since it is not an assault rifle and they are legally owned mags, it's technically ok.... now would a cop think so? probably not. Yay california!
@ContractKiller37 It is a great rifle... i've really enjoyed mine and have had no issues to speak of... i bout mine about 3 years ago now, and i believe i got it for $550
This weeks gun reports rates the muzzle to be a major a problem for night shooting. You will experience night blindness due to the lack of a flash suppressor on the SU-16CA.
hard to tell from the video but it's actually like dusk out. It was just taken with a small canon pocket camera so in order for the camera to keep the brightness up to a reasonable level, it increases the exposure time of each frame slightly meaning the odds of it catching a flash go way up. Fortunately for us!
so it's my 20 rounds of 223 that make ammo prices high...? what about the millions and millions of rounds being used by our military as they are actively fighting a war...?
It's a great carbine. Light, accurate relatively cheap. Just don't make the mistake of comparing it to an AR; compare it to something like the Mini14.
Oh....I guess you mean California? It was my understanding that 30 rounders are legal so long as they were purchased before whatever date they passed that unconstitutional law.
if its not to late go with the kel tec... ar15s are nice but in my opion alil unpreactical for a real life situation were you would need to depend your life on a gun... simply because of the rather rigouse matanice they need and the finiky direct gas impingment were as with keltec they take ar mags there chambered for the 5.56 nato round but can still use .223 and there cheaper with a life time warrenty so that saved money can go towards ammo
This is the worst statement I have ever read. I have a keltec and a few AR's. The AR are 1 million times better than a plastic keltec. I've seen Keltec's explode in people's hands. They commonly experience FTF,and FTE every time you shoot them. They are the poor man's AR. If you can afford an AR, then get one.
I think calling it plastic isn't really fair towards the Kel-Tec. I mean Heckler and Koch have been making the G36 for a long while now. It's "plastic" I have seen many-a-time where an AR has blown up.
lifetime warranty??? i never heard of that i was planning on getting one anyway but still thats nice to know and besides judging by the reviews i have read online about how well made they are i bet it could still last way longer then 5000
The law in CA is that it is illegal to purchase, use or sell any high cap (over 10 rds) magazines that were manufactured after the year the law went in place (2000 i think). So using magazines that were purchased before then in a "featureless rife" (no pistol grip, collapsable stock, flash suppressor) is ok...
However, this does not hold true for anything with a fixed magazine, such as an SKS or an AR with a mag lock. Fixed mags cant be over 10 rounds.
lol good one and yeah Cali sucks for doing that right to bear arms??? just not with a pistol grip or if its bigger than .49 of an inch or if its small thats ok go ahead and disrespect the founding fathers its ok
Any threads on that barrel?
TheAnts47 3 months ago
@TheAnts47 yep, it has the standard threads that ARs do... any muzzle break, compensator, or suppressor will fit on it
darthvader906 3 months ago
@darthvader906 How do I get this shit on the barrel?

@wayfaerer320 Why would you by a CA model? That is like having sex with a condom on.
Warpath2198 1 year ago
@Warpath2198 well, the C is the what i would want ideally (i guess the SU-16D would be pretty sweet too haha) but the A is not available in Cali.

@R5H4D0W
Absolutely... it has the same tread pitch as an AR-15 so anything that will fit on that series will fit on an SU-16

It is a 30 round standard GI issue AR-15 magazine...
