  • Thank you very much for your answer! Greetings from Bucharest, Romania! Adrian

  • Hello Keybdwizrd ! I need an advice from you! I want to buy a Roland module and i really don`t know what to choose: JV1080, XV5050 or Fantom XR. My main concern is the SOUND QUALITY! From what i read..jv1080 and xv5050 have a special vibe...but what module do you find with the most inspirational sounds from those 3?

  • @AdiV8 IMHO the Fantom XR will give you the best sound quality, but the 1080 is easier to use.

  • Wonderful!

The vortex reminds me of the Playstation 1 startup song :D

  • Excellent video, I also have a Fantom Xr in my setup, and the sounds are lovely its a great sampler too. The only thing is I wish they had made it taller so they could have installed a larger screen. There is always going to be something we want though.

I hope Roland bring out a version with flash memory also.

  • this is amazing! can you import your own wav samples and use it live? if so do you know which more modern modules can import and which do you prefer to use?

  • question: does this have all the sounds from the fantomG ?

  • @xVenu5 I don't know.

  • @keybdwizrd fantom G has a total amount of rom samples that's 256 megabytes vs 128 megabytes of fantom x series....but fantom xr could be expanded with 6 srx cards each containing 64 megabytes of samples, so with 6 cards installed the total amount of rom samples would be 128 internal + 64*6=512 mega of rom samples (double of fantom g).

Roland made a selection of the best material from fantom x series, srx and also new samples and stored that stuff in 256 mega, and that's fantom G!

  • @kyma1999x

IMHO, Fantom X is way better for sound design, that's because you have more waveforms to choose from, obviously havin' at least 3/4 SRX installed.

The G series instead is better for producing, that's because has a very powerful sequencer capable of play and record up to 24 audio tracks (in sample ram) and 128 midi tracks pointing to 16 midi channels only obviously.

i use a fantom xr and a rack full of sound modules and i control them with cubase or logic, i don't like internal seq.

  • from fantom x, but not from g

  • @xVenu5 no, the X series was replaced by the G series, the Fantom G is newer than any Fantom X line.

  • @xVenu5 if you fill up the entire SRX expansion bay on an XR you can more or less get all the fantom G sounds, the only upperhand the fantom G has is a different platform of expansion so to speak. ive owned a fantom x7 for over 4 years and i gotta say i tried and tried upgrading to the G but i just cant.....instead i expanded and got spectrasonics omnisphere running on my protools interface

  • Love the touch velocity of the 1st patch

  • Good playing makes everything sound good even though the Fantom sounds good, haha:)

  • i recently bought an XR and i was wondering is there any way to make the velocity consistent within playing the notes? Alot of times my notes are softer than others and it's somewhat annoying. I'm used to Ensoniq keyboards which possess a "Full On" mode which turns off velocity completely and the notes are played at full volume. Any suggestions? I'm stumped.

  • @ThatsMrTimex2You Sorry, I no longer have the Fantom XR, and don't have an answer for you.

  • You're awesome with that flamenco patch. How many years of piano lessons? It's about time I start learning how to play real music.

  • @mesaoneCCK Thanks - I've taken about 15 years of lessons.

  • How's the key action on the Oxygen?

  • @ElPopularVale Mediocre at best.

  • I am not a big fan of modules, especially from Roland :\ they disappointed me,but this is a cool DEMO anyway. like!

  • Dude.

    Very nice.

You are a very good player.

  • @FredVierra Thank you very much!

  • recording the sounds from the Fantom rack I mean? For example...I have Pro Tools...I am using an S/PDIF connection and I can hear it through my speakers and I see the levels in Pro Tools but I can't find a way to record...

  • how do you record using a DAW?

  • Are which SRX cards did you install in this?

  • @pixusbubblejet None.

  • How do you create layers and splits on Fantom XR module???? I want up to 4 parts layerd and/or split across my Roland Ax synth, but can't figure it out. Please help!!!!

  • the effect at 1:30 is awesome. how much does it cost?

  • I bought mine used, on eBay, for about $700.

  • I never messed with synth racks as the fantom before...but i'm really interested in his features.

    Thanks for that demo.

I assume it is possible to hook up the fantom to your DAW computer system and play everything through a midi keyboard?

thanks for any info on that.

  • Yes, that's actually what I am doing here.

  • can i use a m-audia midi keyboard with a Roland FANTOM Xr Sampling Synthesizer Module?

  • @poopoo178 yes! any keyboard with midi can be used. im using my old banged up roland xp80 as a midi controller. technology is the best. now we can recycle old equipment

  • not to mention the 6000+ arpeggios ...

  • ya im sending mine back.. i guess modules for stage are too tedious.... I'll get a second keyboard or a Receptor for my soft synths..or I may get the new Kurzweil PC3LE6 looks like a performance keyboard. need to SEE what im doinig on the fly...I have the Yamaha S70xs and loving it. so fast to get around.. I can make four layer patches in seconds.... including drums with 5 grooves on the fly... bass.... with basslines..... then have two more instruments going.. its really a great piece of kit.

  • er uh..... doesnt the fantom XR have multi's.. i just hear single sounds.... you cant do.... arp mixes? drums with strings and piano . stuff like that> or is it straight sounds and and stacks?

  • The XR is multi-timbral, and does have an arpeggiator, although I haven't played with it much. If there are preset multis set up with drum patterns and other instruments, I have not found them.

While the XR has some great sounds, I am not a fan of the user interface. Maybe if I played with it more the front panel menu controls would seem more intuitive.

For what the XR can or cannot do, people would probably be better off getting specs from the Roland website, as I am not a product expert..

  • does any one know... which has a better sound.. FANTOM XR OR JUNO G ...? Or are they quite similar in sound?

  • is it much larger even when the 1080 is loaded with 4 jv modules? ... i can get an xr for 750 and a 1080 for 200.... with orchestral loaded. and i see there are lots of jv modules for sale

  • The JV modules are a real bargain., especially when loaded with expansion cards.

  • whats better... fantom xr or JV 1080 ?

  • I believe both have wonderful sounds, but the patch library in the XR is definitely more current, and is also much larger.

  • Fantastic job, thank you very much for these performances... :-))

  • You're welcome, thanks.

  • Is this comparable to the fantom x6? can it do multisampling?

  • should i get myself a fantom xr or a virus ti? ;-)

  • They are completely different instruments.

  • well, I´m going to use it for techno and some hip-hop.. :)

  • Beautiful

  • super bravo, car pour joué sur un petit clavier c'est pas facile !! @+

  • merci, le clavier est assez grand pour moi... :)

  • only $700-800 now. el cheapo

  • so does the software version have as good quality of sound, fatness richness as the keyboard itself?

  • There is no software version. I am playing a Fantom XR hardware module via a MIDI keyboard. This is the same sound engine that it found in many of the Fantom keyboards.

  • So the Fantom XR plugs straight into the midi keyboard and you 'play' it from the midi keyboard, is there an audio interface involved?

Then you can record it into a sequencer as midi?

    Great playing by the way.

  • Audio interface is needed if you want to record synthesizers as audio into your computer.

You can connect a MIDI keyboard directly to the XR to play it, but if you're using a computer-based sequencing/recording program both the XR and the keyboard will need to be connected to the computer, not directly to each other.

  • so it is the exact same sound engine as the fantom x

  • I think so, but you should check it out at the Roland website to make sure.

  • Freakin unbeliveable ..............thank you !!! just wanted to know does it come with a editor to use as a vst?

  • There's an editor, but I don't think it runs as a VST.

  • nope doesnt act as a vst i tried zillions of time to get it to work

  • Man what's name of the song you playing on piano???

  • Just some little diddly I made up.

  • I thought I heard it some where before...well whatever...thx anyway for answer...

  • im thinking Yamaha motif sx rack

  • what would be better B for the B ...... Fantom XR or Mofif XS rack..... thanks

  • same question.. Fantom XR, Motif Rack or Triton Rack?

  • to je síla!

  • GREAT MUSICIAN!!!!

and, as usual, thanks for your really helpful work!

(I have a Littla Phatty now, thanks to your demos! :-)))) )

  • the Arie Piano patch sounds great! I love your musical choices for all the patches you demonstrated. Indication of just how much time you spend with these babies!

  • Thanks, but I don't spend nearly as much time with my synths as I should!

  • I have some of your webtunes from your old site(sic)they are like these...Thanx for reading..greg

  • Beatifuly played.

  • looks like i know what im getting next.

    angel pipes are nice.

  • Good to have you back. It has been a while! Always appreciate your demo's ... a lot!

  • Hello, nice patches, I've psoted these videos on switchedonsynthesizer.blogspot . com

  • Hmm, we must have acquired the Fantom XR about the same time! I added it to my setup a few weeks ago to augment a JV2080 (it fills a similar niche) - plus I added the orchestral board and the World board. I would get the orchestral one - the sounds are truly inspiring...
