Sorry this video is totally lame. It does not even address the more important issues that a thinking person would care about, like -Navigation, -Shortcuts, -Useability, etc..
All this video talks about is superficial stuff like, the 'size' differences, the 'Thickness', oh wow. Hello!!! do you think that is what I really care about? Give me a break. I just bought the Kindle Touch. The book navigation is horrible compared to my iPod touch. I really like the eInk technology though.
@moh2o I have another video reviewing the Kindle Touch more in-depth. Trust me, this video really is supposed to be a form factor comparison primarily.
After playing with the 2 in Office Max, I'd have to say the brightness is not exactly the same. I assume they may use some thicker glass to protect the touch even though the sensing is in the edges. This seems to dull the whiteness a bit. The delay or hold touching is something one can get used to or not. I'm leaning more towards the keyboard as I like the contrast better, the ability for the browser to work over 3g on more sites and the key typing rather than the screen.
@TiMthisIS no. the screen is directly placed on the board, and no glass protects it. the screens are also exactly, and i mean EXACTLY the same, in every way, shape, and form. They are the same Pearl E-Ink screen, and are manufactured the same. As for 3g, e-ink browsers are not that great.
@TheSlipKnot981 Could've been manufacturing differences I suppose. Not every batch is perfect. Web browsing seems better served on other devices unless you are in the middle of nowhere. The delay in detection is a bit of a bother.
In regards to the keyboards: I borrowed someone's Touch and found that occasionally I had to press down relatively hard for the letter to register. I haven't experimented with the K.Keyboard. Do you find any difference in the pressure you have to use on the physical keyboard versus the virtual?
@drpeg2005 It doesn't work on pressure so that cannot be. It works using infrared sensors around the edge of the screen. Sometimes the Kindle Touch can slow down and you'd need to press for a bit longer. This is rare though and hopefully will be fixed in a future update from Amazon, which they do periodically. How hard you press makes no difference though.
@phototristan Thanks so very much for that clarification. I now see that when the Touch keyboard had slowed down, as you indicated it might, I had assumed I needed to press harder, rather than just wait longer!
I have the touch and you have to be VERY CARY NOT TO TOUCH TYHE SCREEN BY ACCIDENT or the pages flit. Its hard to hold it by its edges and not touch the screen all the time
is there any way that i can do word processing on the kindle touch and then view and edit it on my PC? Also with the kindle touch can i switch to landscape? Im new to kindle, just got the keyboard and wondering if i should switch for the touch. Thanks for the help!
@rylee53 No I don't believe it can do word processing. I also don't think it has landscape mode however Amazon may add that in a future software update as they did on prior Kindles.
You havn't really go into depth on the pros and cons and pretty much just said "theyre both comfortable but the Kindle Keyboard is bigger" which is apparent just by looking at it. It would be helpful if you could go into detail comparing the two kindle's in depth pros and cons including the features such as MP3 and ease in terms of maybe web browsing or otherwise..
@hobbo3003 Since I have an iPad, I don't want a Kindle Fire. The iPad can do a lot more and i'm already committed to the iOS app store as well. If I didn't have an iPad however, I might consider the Fire since the price seems very good.
@phototristan I am with you on that. I am an apple user, I have iPod and Macbook. And I can tell you right now that Amazon has FAILED with making the Kindle Touch user friendly and fast. You have to go through "4" clicks to change chapters by going to the Index.
My iPod can go to the index with one click..as in using a Bible app.
CPU :
The Kindle 4 is built for the iMX50 (800MHz ARM Cortex A8) platform.
The Kindle 3 is iMX35 (532MHz ARM).
