  • Kind of true.. Ants are far superior ti humans if their size was modified.. They could easily crush your body with one bite..

  • @ko3ntjuh1 No, they couldn't. They'd collapse under their own weight. Please learn engineering.

  • A great shame that this was never MST'd!

  • 1:47 looks like that would hurt ALOT

  • Joan Collins looked pretty hot back then.

  • SAMUEL Z ARKOFF PRESENTS A BERT I GORDON FILM . . . I shall take that as a recommendation that this will be a laugh riot.

  • The best part of this movie is when Joan Collins gets killed by the Queen Ant!

  • LOL THE DYNASTY BITCH IS IN THIS MOVIE! :D

  • As Kent Brockman would say:

"I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality I could be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves"

  • Is the Gorillaz song Empire Ants named after this movie?

  • lol cheesiest movie ever made

  • Comment removed

  • Just like the 'Those" mission on fallout 3

  • One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I highly recommend it.

  • They will take us and they'll make us: Human slaves, in an insect nation!

  • for some reason i want to shout at them. if they came up to me i'd be like RIGHT!!! FECK OFF!!!!

  • This is why CGI was created boys and girls!

  • @msudreaming

Nice try. This is an entertaining cheesy flick and the "special" effects just make it that much more endearing.

CGI is a piece of crap and it gives me headache. It ruined the last Indiana Jones movie and it's the cancer of modern film industry.

    I say - bring back the 70s!!!!

  • @McLeodclansman I saw this movie... I loved it... You're right, CGI can be a load of crap... The "special" effects they used was great.

  • @msudreaming CGI is tasteless, uncreative and for the most part extremely bland in a sense where ive seen your little ''CGI'' creations some were even horrible than most atrocious puppets. For example the troll hunter, grave encounters. Oh and that menacing pile of shit called sharktopus. For the most part it does not feel realistic, its not compelling its lifeless and boring to watch. Dark Crystal is a perfect example of puppeteering in its prime. Plus an overall mystifying atmosphere.

  • @msudreaming and it's also why is sucks, here, for casual people cgi is ok, but for people who are familiar to film cgi is uninspiring and boaring, FUCK CGI

  • Those ants had nothing on Krystle Carrington.

  • shit this reminds me of my 10th birthday party when my dad got his hands on a giant ant puppet and started to scare ppl with it

  • Anyone ever read the actual short story? It's pretty cool, even though Wells kept the ants normal sized. And yes, they're mean little SOBs.

  • I would rather die then have to touch of those

  • The Effects in Bert I Gordon's films never cease to amaze. XD You think by this point his effects would have gotten better.

  • Filmed in Belle Glade FL!

  • they're herding us like cattle." that's how I feel about these cities w/ their private ratholes.

  • "gah! get out of here, go on!" classic threat to a giant ant....

  • @MadnessOfTippo Hahahahahahaha was just going to write the exact same comment hahahahah soo funny

  • @Morgethein

They did the same thing with Beginning of the End, they shot footage of real grasshoppers on photographs or super impossed footage of real grasshoppers with live action

  • Worst giant bugs ever, you can tell it's super impossed footage of real ants on a minature set

  • lol at 0:29 "Get outa here! C'mon!"

  • just call gordon freeman...

  • 1:36 - 1:42 - that's what I call decent special effects. Joan Collins wasn't Alexis Colby yet...

  • omg I laughed the whole way through this video!!!

  • don't worry! the antbully will save us!

  • town of the nits is a good movie

  • What a brilliant idea to give away a major spoiler in the trailer . The fact that the Queen was manipulating people was a chilling plot twist, at least when i was a wee lad. I didn't watch the trailer before i saw the movie for the first time but i may have been pissed if i did. Yes, i know, this thing is cheesy but when you are 7yo, it's the stuff of nightmares :)

  • So there's been Empire of the Ants (1977) and Empire of the Sun (1987) ...Now someone has to go for the trifecta and make Empire of the Magnifying Glass.

  • Can you believe this movie came same year as Star Wars a new hope?

  • Giant ants? I'm going to need a bigger garden hose...

  • This is one of my kid's favorite movies, lol! And mine too:)

  • Special effects by "Industrial Light and Morons".

  • This looks awsome i'm dying to see it...although poor Joan hated making it..LOL

  • If H.G. Wells had invented a time machine, I can picture him zooming back to 1977 from the time of the Eloi and telling Samuel Z. Arkoff, "Please take my name off this production!"

  • Ahhhh Joan ! You look chic no matter what the circumstances!!

  • 1:43 I've had it with these m*therfucking ants on this m*ther fucking boat!

  • And the sequel of course was Colony of the Scary Uncles.

  • How Joan Collins had a career after this I'll never know.

  • "THEM" was a much better movie

  • 1:40 so crappy done...

  • SHIT I remember seeing this on a huge screen when it came out and it was fucking scary

    better than stupid shit like

Frday the 13th....although this movie totally sucked too..it was a hell of a lot scarier.. which isn' t saying much

  • why dod the ant try to kill that man in the crotch?

  • why dod the ant try to kill that maqn in the crotch?

  • Why is it that the bug du jour, in this case the ANT, always grows into a giant in these films? Same thing happened in the more recent "Eight-legged Freaks", with the SPIDER. Wouldn't exposure to radiation give these bugs cancer, or kill them outright? Ah well: cinematic licence + suspension of belief = a great excuse for a good ol' fashioned "escape" movie. ;-P

  • @slmacph Uh no radiation either makes you huge or gives you superpowers like Spiderman or the Fantastic Four. It's science, geez!

  • better that AVATAR¡¡¡¡

  • It's remarkable that this film, made 23 years after "Them!", looks far, far cheesier.

  • Yes, H. G. Wells predicted gigantic ants that enslave people. Huh.

  • Part of what works for this movie is how creepy looking the ants.

  • when he told the ant;"get out of here, come on", i thought for sure the ant would leave, but, alas, he didn't

  • holy shiet

  • I honestly have to admit, that even though this is a Schlocky masterpiece that killed a career here and there, but that quick shot at 1:36 of the guy running toward the ocean with the giant ants running across the pier at the boat looks pretty damn cool.

  • I have a weakness for movies with giant insects.

  • I went "hahahahahahahahahahaha" at what happens to Joan Collins's character.

  • I remember seeing this movie when it 1st came out.not a bad movie for its time

  • "For they shall inherit the earth...sooner than you think" ROFL

  • It's ok, the camera adds a couple thousand pounds lol

  • its cooler when aliens destroy humanity:(

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I've seen this flick a few times and read the novel twice! Lottsa cheezy trash FUN!!!!! Hell yeah, Joan Collins was HOT in her prime! Check her out as 'Siren' in the 1966-68 Batman t.v. series! HOT!!!

  • giant ants would be crushed by their giant exoskeleton

  • Trivia: the scene with the ants walking on the pier to destroy the boat was used in a montage in "It's Tough to Be a Bug!" at Disney's Animal Kingdom in FLA and Disney's California Adventure in CA. :)

  • Does she get her clothes off in this one?

  • @Kelly14UK Nope...Joan stays clothed.

  • @fivebearrugs Does she get her clothes off (or at least go topless) in anything? Was watching "Tales From the Crypt" (1972) last night and am always taken aback by how sexy she is in it. She was about 39, yet doesn't look it at all!

  • @MikeAM78 LOL, as I said to Kelly14UK a few days ago, nope; Joan Collins stays clothed. There wasn't any time for anyone to get sexy...although I think one of the sleazy guys gets blondie in her bra or something

  • @fivebearrugs I actually meant has Joan ever gotten naked/topless in ANYTHING she's done in career. LOL!

  • Perhaps the "greatest" worst movie of the 1970's ! I saw this when it first came out. Also see "Food of the Gods" - similar cheesiness.

  • Joan Collins couldn't pay her mortgage that month, so she did THIS piece of crap! LOL!

  • that is one scarey movie.

  • Am i the only one who feels things crawling on me now?

  • And then Kingdom of the Uncle's followed, lol.

  • fuckn ants..... wheres the bagon???

  • Finally i found it!!!!!!!!!! this movie scared the living daylights outta me when i was a kid LOL!!!

  • @TheGmgirl77

    Yes me too lol....

I have been looking for this movie and now I found the name and the trailer lol ... :-)

When I was a child I thought it was such a good and scary movie.

I would like to watch it again to see if I still think the same :-)

  • @SandraChristinaC We actually ordered it on DVD thru Amazon i think and have since had a good laugh watching it, lol! Its amazing how something so corny and funny, was so totally fascinating and believable as a child! You should get it, brings back alot of memories :-)

  • @TheGmgirl77

Lol.... :-D yes I imagien lol... I just thought it was really scary and good when I was a child , so scary that I had to put my hands infront of my face sometimes lol :-)

Yes I would like to also buy it and watch it again. It could be fun maybe I will think and this scared me ???

But sure I want to buy it and watch it again , it is like I have to watch it again .

Yes it must bring a lot of memories back Lol... :-)

  • @SandraChristinaC

I totally agree, this movie scared the dung out of me at the time. I was too young to realize how silly and piss poor the production values or the acting was. Things like that don't matter when your'e a kid, you're more forgiving. This brings me back to lazy Saturday afternoons with rain falling outside, watching these disaster flicks on Hbo and pigging out on candy

  • This movie is hilarious. Especially when the ants are crawling into the sugar refinery. If you watch closely, you can see a few walking on the "air" background. XD

  • why did them people do into the booth

  • cheesy special effects!

  • I'm still waiting for the sequel, Emperor Of The Ants

  • @Nagneto the second in the trilogy is The Empire (of the Ants) Strikes Back

  • I was a fan of the Animorph series of books where teenagers fought an alien invasion after they gained the power to morph into animals and in one book the team morphed into ants. In the mission they met up with a colony of ants and they were ripped apart. KA Applegate (the author) could make here writing very realistic and make the reader feel what the kids were going through with the new emotions. The kid who was narrating said humans wouldn't stand a chance because of how vicious ants are.

  • that movie scared me

  • @taifighters

you are right this film is scary

  • they showed this recently on this tv 5.2 in los angeles. I usually like this crazy stuff but somehow this one just stinks.

  • Joan Collins.. what a woman

  • What a corny movie!

  • @TudorRose85 really how bad is it because i have seen kingdom of the spiders on dvd and that movie's plot was good and the special effects were cheesy but the make up effects were impressive

  • This needs a sequel

  • Joan Collins early movie

  • IVE got this on dvd, good story line but d effects could've been better,a decent 7/10.

  • love this movie. LOVE.

  • Pamela Schoop.... Rrrrooowwwrrr!!!

  • darn smart ants

  • Resistance Is Useless!!!

  • Easy solution GIANT MAGNIFYING GLASS WORKS EVERYTIME

  • @13millsa What if it's too cloudy?

  • is it something about the giant ants? because they're not ants...anymore LOL

  • YES! I saw this movie ages ago, and I've finally found out what it is. Iteven has my favourite bit in it:

after 0:29 keep your eye on the guy in the brown...

  • @FlashMeterRed He's poking nobody with his stick?

  • @Atgonzales03 haha. you saw. hes even pointing in the wrong direction, which is the best thing. seriously 20 milliseconds of classic comedy.

  • @FlashMeterRed Lolz.....XD

  • so Hg wells said giant ants could take hundreds of armies with guns and explosives what was he smoking ?

  • I remember seeing this in the theatre in Early 1977. Cool low-budget fun from AIP.

  • Total rip off of "Them!"

  • Reminds me of the 50 move Them!

  • love those 70s nature takes revenge films

  • @Love4SK: Wait a second...Food of the Gods, Frogs, Willard. Say I really think you're on to something there.

  • "She needs us; that's why we must obey!"

Why does this feel like a low-rent version of ATLAS SHRUGGED?

  • i'm pretty sure this killed some careers.

  • @capcomguy07

Well, the giant ants went on to do a series of weird, Japanese porn. But yeah, others weren't so lucky.

  • @capcomguy07 NO way! Camp is where it's at!

  • h g wells turns in his grave

  • I saw this movie when I was 8 years old I think, and I was SOOOOOOO sacred, I don't know why.

  • @zazory86 probably because you were 8...

  • classic childhood memories watchin this.

its so chessy i love it

  • ha! classic.

  • I recorded this on my DVR about two weeks ago, it keeps putting me to sleep. It's no Deadly Mantis...

  • I bet Joan Collins is really proud to have this on her resume.....lol.

  • I think she plays a crooked estate agent, trying to flog real estate that is actually radioactive. Can't believe films were so campy as late as 1977!

  • The special effects are simply amazing! Ahead of their time

  • Just step on them or spray them with windex!

  • Since when the F did H.G. write about common ants playing Spiderman ? :-P

  • This is "Them !", but in colour, and not so good :)

  • mst3k so should have done this.

  • ahhaha saw this on tv once. lol funny as hell

  • the ants from THEM! were more convincing.

  • isso é impossivel! nao ah oxigenio assim pra mante-las vivas!

  • If you live in the United States you can see this on Hulu. It's pretty cool when you are 12 years old, but if you're a grownup you can see how lame it is

  • Those Ants Look Fake. Just Like Jaws The Great White Shark.

  • thanks captain obvious, this movie was made in '77

  • I thought that was Bruce Lee at 1:33 for a sec there.

  • They spent millions on the special effects.

  • wonder how much it would cost to make an exact film.

  • two dollars and.... a shiny coin from chucky cheese

  • Gotta say this looks really crappy but kinda cool too. LOL

  • The music in this is GREAT...."DA-DUN-DA-DUN-DA-DUN-DA-DUN-DA DA DA DUNT"

  • Waitaminnit- We don't have RAYGUNS, you can't put them up as evidence of H G Wells' "prophesies".

And way to give away the twist at 0:25!

  • Maybe he meant Nancy Raygun...Ronald Raygun...Raygunomics....:p

  • Doh! ;)

  • @jjobie I like that, nice.

  • This movie has profoundly insightful messages.

  • ALL HAIL THE ANTS!

  • this looks funny

    their just ants

    duh

  • Giant insects freak me out!!!!

  • Word, Aaron. Word.

  • lmao!!!

  • Ah, the Notorious B.I.G.

  • if ants weighed just 1lb humans would be in trouble 5 would be enough to carry away most people

  • How bout them special effects?

  • Bert I Gordon- King of the Process Shot since about 1950.

  • Nice to meet you Bert I Gordon- King of the Process Shot since about 1950

  • Remember seeing this movie on tv when I was 10. All I really remember is people screaming over seeing giant ants, oh and a man getting kneed in the nuts by a beautiful blond lady.

  • Thing about it was that H. G. Wells didn't write the story about giant ants. Oh they were a little bigger then average one or two inches, but nothing like these. It was a shot story about finidng an intelligent colony that was trying to spread in South America, in the story, by hiding on a boat.

  • I like the part at 0:30 where the guy on the rowboat with his girlfriend hits the ant with the oar and says "Come on, leave us alone. Get out of here! Funny stuff! But exactly when was H.G Wells right about ray guns and sonic listening devices though?

  • lol

  • Your thinking of "Humanoids from the Deep" (1980) aka "Monster."

  • lol moment:

1:25 The old man in the blue coat on the left hand side sees the dead body. Then at 1:28 he turns around and says "What?"

  • Dude's senile, man!

  • @aweboy good catch

  • side show carny rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it was called "Them"

  • i remember "frogs", and "food of the gods", and "night of the lepus" about the giant scary rabbits.

  • 0:38

"..And these giant ants are ACTUALLY able to CONTROL HUMANS..."

    0.0

    Holy Fucking Shit.
