To hell with bike lanes. They're dangerous. I think they cause more problems than they solve. I've seen all manner of junk, obstructions, parked public and privately owned vehicles and poor road conditions in bike lanes.
This one positions a bike lane in the "door zone". Obviously the city planning department was full of car drivers the day they thought of what to do.
@BenMurphy22 exactly, he had all the time in the world to avoid that door, tho i did think he was going to hit it on purpose, for a minute. and then blame and curse the driver for everything wrong in this world. (like you see on a lot of other cyclist videos...)
It is the person in the parked cars responsibility to check and see if there is oncoming traffic before they open their door when i ride my motorcycle i try and not even be in that lane or at least the left side of it because most people dont they just blindly open their doors and step out and i pray when some dumbass does that i'm not driving my 4x4 Suburban because they will become a grizzly mess and it will be their fault and i probably will end up on here as the guy who killed the dumbass
as a cyclist i understand what this person went through, i get lots of close calls everyday like this person did.... you have to understand that at his speed and distance, he needs to not only react fast enough to notice the door, but he needs to choose weather braking or turning, brake too late and he would slam or if he turns he needs to make sure no cars are besides him to run him over, so its a series of calculation that takes place which a non-cyclist would most likely not see or understand
If this happened on a busier street, the danger would have been more apparent. In some dooring incidents, the cyclist avoids the opening door, only to be taken out by a car on the other side.
Whenever I park, I check my left sideview mirror to make sure there are no passing cyclists. If I see one only 10 seconds away (70 - 80 feet), I wait for him to pass.
@aznmarty256 In that case, the proper reaction is not to swerve into the trafic but to apply your brakes and aim at the person coming out of the car in order to cussion the impact.
We have a case of misunderstanding here: people check this kind of vids to actually get to watch cyclists gettin' hit by the door - when they realize there's none of that they feel compelled to post moronic comments about cyclists and their manners.
My point was that if you think you're a victim here you are ridiculous. How far back do you expect people to be able to look for a bike before opening the door to get out of their car?
@BenMurphy22 With his wing mirror the driver can see 100s of yards. The driver only has to look back as far as a bike can travel in about 10 seconds. The real culprit here, though, is the road designer who put a cycle lane in the door zone of parked cars.
Another ignorant selfish cunt in a car.

@BenMurphy22 Turn into another lane of traffic. What if a car was there? What if he did it a little later?
