  • this guy is a good pilot.

  • those are some serious manuevers!

  • ME GUSTAV

  • that was warfare. No mas distruction by clicking on a butten but man vs man

  • Best 2 minutes I have spent in a while!

    The audio is terrific !!!

    Short and sweet baby!

Isn't it interesting that present day pilots with huge amounts of warbird time are singing the praises to the inverted Db-605 powered Bf-109's!

Looks like the are going to have to revise the military history books again.

    JG-52 / JG-54 was no myth.

Minimal pilot training and low octane petrol helped to diminish the wonderful qualities of this great fighter.

  • Excellent example of German ingenuity. The bf-109 caused significant trouble for allied late-war fighters including the legendary P-51 and others such as the typhoon, spitfire, hurricane, P-38 and P-47. Also fought alongside some of the greatest Axis/Luftwaffe fighters such as the 110 and the 190. Nice vid, thanks for posting.

  • i love hearing the 109 powerback

  • More 109 pilots had been killed by landing accidents than by been shot down.

  • bullshit

  • Not totally bullshit, the numbers of Bf-109 aircraft landing accidents were huge.

(Wili should have fixed this problem)

Especially on the eastern front where air bases were so primitive.

Don't get me wrong, I am still a huge fan of this aircraft. All I have to mention is "Hartman/Barkhorn/Galland/Marseille"

With no other aircraft can you make a true comparison. If these don't impress, I can give you four more Bf-109 Aces where again there is no comparison.

  • Spit had simmilar design of landing gears and doesn't bear such reputation - unless you have precise statistics I'd say this is a myth. It was not as a problem with the plane or landing gear as a problem with properly trained pilots.

Moreover, Bf109 had better landing and take-off characteristics when being used on grass bases (Russia) rather than concrete runways (Reichsdefense).

  • Luftwaffe bases on the eastern front were always on the move while also dealing with more severe weather conditions. You are correct that it affected the rookie pilots more than the experienced ones.

If the Bf-109 pilot did have the luxury of a grass base, it would helped as the pilot would need to swing the aircraft on take-offs and landings so he could see.

The Reno Air Races just once had a Ha-1112 Buchon ( Merlin) for a demo flight...upon landing, lost it and ground-looped it. (No grass)

  • not sure what you mean by 'swing' ... on grass the plane had smaller tendency to 'dance' to the side winds as opposed to concrete runways...

The main thing is though that the whole fuselage/landing gear design greatly benefited transport of the plane on its wheels while the wings were folded next to it + made the wing structure less complicated.

Current transport planes adopted similar philosophy of design which indicates that such approach has some benefits:)

  • Darn it...you put me to work and now I can't find in my books the hard number on accidents regarding the splayed landing gear!

I did read that due to so many inexperienced pilots late in the war, a fixed-tailwheel helped the problem a little. I believe the landing gear was attached to near the firewall, allowing for wing removal.

Re: swing, I mean't that unless the tail was up, the pilot had zero visablity straight ahead so he needed to kick the aircraft back and forth to see anything.

  • no problem with that - don't want to mess up the video page with chat clutter:))))

  • Correct! people take the stats from the post war Avia S-199 with the Jumo 211 engine, which had very bad handeling, and apply these stats to the ww2 German machines! In intervews and books with the pilots that flew them, this was not the case at all. The german 109s were far better than the Avia and the Buchon. Yet another example of false propaganda. Aprox 5% were destroyed, not 33%. The spit/p-51 has simular stats.

  • Fantastic Airplane but you couldn't get me to fly it in a million years, I like having a pair of legs that actually work. The 109 was great but even with this expert pilot you can still hear people on the video wondering if he was going to have a crash landing.

  • lol...u could get me to fly it in some few seconds :)

pple were wondering because it is despite all, an old plane...besides, landing way was not flat (like most in ww2 weren't, too)...but its an (I dare to claim) standard landing...

  • This is one NICE plane!Cool video!

  • the real super fighters of that era were the 109 and spitfire; p51's thou had good capabilities and were mass produced, like 5:1 over the 109s, the real sumo fighter of its time was the 109, the ponies only could bring down the messies when out number 3:1 or destroy them when the were grounded .

  • @eloidor

I agree the P-51 is ovehyped, however it was competive with german fighters out there and even had a couple of advantages (as did the Fw-190/Bf-109) with a skilled pilot was deadly. The Pilots would in the end be the determining factor of the outcome. Regarding pilot skill: The training and skill level of the average German pilot fell rapidly from early 1944 and towards the end. and there was no possible way to recover from this downward spiral in the time/conditions available.

  • @eloidor true. me 109 was real agile. its only failure was its low operational area. that is one of the reasons why britan won the battle of britania. me was orginaly sopposed to be inteseptor.

  • the supercharger (not turbocharger)on the db605a was hydraulically driven off the crankshaft. get your shit straight. 109s rule!!

  • the center of gravity on all bf109s was not rearward!!! it became rearward as soon as the main gear made contact with the ground due to the forward projection of the landing gear legs. the angle of the legs away from the fuselage sometimes caused the wheels to dig in, further heightening the squirrelyness upon landing. marseille was killed by a loose oil or loose gas fitting that started an engine fire. 109s rule!!!

  • This is music...

    Beautiful..

  • oh yes ! great german aircraft !!

  • Yeah music to my ears also....

  • music in my ears... ;)

  • The music to my ears would have been the P-51 kicking its ass

  • God i wish theres a sound like that in heaven

  • Fucking thin landing gear proved to be a killer.

  • I read on Adlertag, which is the most complete Me 109 site that this particullar aircraft actually is a Spanish built Hispano Ha 1112 "Buchon" but fitted with a Daimler engine instead of the Rolls Royce Merlin. It's a twisted irony that the last operational type of the Me 109 flew with the same engine as the 109's biggest enemies: the spitfire, the mustang and the Hurricane. But I can recommand to check out adlerstagDOTde if you love the Me 109.

  • hammer!

  • what a Plane

    TEZZ

  • The engine´s noise is really awsome...that fuel injection system killed so many spits!

  • As far as I know, that distinctive sound comes from the oil-pressurized multi-altitude turbocharger, that made the Me-109 always a competitor to the FW-190.

The Me-109 had an ascending ability the Focke Wulf could never match. Me-109 was the only fighter to face the Allies on equal terms at high altitudes. Maybe you knew this already?

  • Okay i am seriously tearing up now ..so perfect this plane and the sound gives me chills...more so than ANY Allied plane.

  • They said the p-51 mustang would be better. Fuck that! The db-605-engine kicks ass!

    Oh yes.

  • Not a planet saver. But still sounds like hell.

Wrrooommmm, and ssccuissshhhh yeah the turbowhistler fucking rules as an inferno, oh yes.

  • Hammer

  • geil!!!!

  • Sounds awesome, and look at those exhaust fumes! Not a planet saver this bird... I'd kill to see one in the air in real life.

  • beau son. Vidéo Agréable. Merci!

  • quand je pense que ce genre de coucou faisait regner la terreur en Europe... Tres bel exemplaire, tres bon etat, et quel bruit de moteur, impressionnant !

  • wow bf-109 is a wonderful plane!!!

  • fuck yeah that motor sounds like music in mey ears

  • Great sound !

  • One always wonders if a precious machine like this should be risked by flying it. But a static exhibit just isn't the same. I've seen P-51s at museums and shows, and there's no way to describe the sound. You will notice the pilot always slews the plane in. I wonder if there is such a thing as a "good landing" in this beauty?

  • That manuever is called a "side slip", done to lose altitude rapidly while not increasing the airspeed. If he had not done that he would have overshot the runway.

  • god its a beautiful plane and the sound of the engine is just MEAN :DD I love it!

  • I agree that it's a real pleasure to see/hear an authentic Daimler Benz powered 109. Such a great engine with such a good pedigree. Don't forget that the Mercedes Grand Prix cars (aka Silver Arrows) were powered by engines using essentialy the same technology as this warbird.

  • What a beautiful thing to behold. And the sound of that engine is music to my ears...sends shivers up my spine.

  • just amazing to see and hear a 109 with a real DB motor! All of the flyable 109's I have seen were Hispano license built with Merlins. The Merlin is a great engine, but the nose just doesn't look the same.

  • the landing was so bad because the (Hahnweide) Airport has a terrible Runway but woderfull plain .I saw the Me from the Messerschmittstiftung in Berlin on the ILA airshow. Wonderfull VIDEO

  • nice airshow but bad landing...

  • Undoubtedly a well made landing gear on this specimen, otherwise it would have propally snapped. Just look at the landing, like capitaomiller said.

  • Capitaomiller, have you been shot down? Is there anyone alive?

  • Marseille had 158 victories, and his engine failed him during an escort flight, on his way back to his homebase. Just a correction. Me109 4ever.

  • By the way capitaomiller, what are the Marcelle-markings? Do you mean Joachim Marseille (German pilot with 159 kills)? He was killed by the unreliability of the (then) new DB-605-engine In africa, during a normal test-flight.

  • Exactly. In Brazil we say: "for a good listener, half word is enough". It is funny the way the guys at the local museum in Brazil decided to use North Africa markings in such a rare bird. For me, it should be left as it was after 40 years submerged in a lake. There were 20mm marks in the fuselage... So, afterall, machines were not so perfect... Maybe you can find the story of these ME109 that was rescued form a lake in Finland after a forced landing in a frozen lake... Cheers!

  • I did my best, could´nt find crap. Not even at the Sao paulo museums web-sites/archives. Could not find your ME. This is of interest anyway. I´ll start over again. Unless you lied about the wreckage. Going in again anyway.

  • The Museum is being sponsored by Brazilian airway TAM. I have pictures of the plane and his is the story the guys at the museum told me. there is not an official site of the museum yet, it will be oppened for public in November... Who knows you can dig in the ice for another ME109 up there in Finland? :):)

  • We do not have ice on our lakes yet, until maybe december perhaps. Hey, we have a summer too! And we´ve had a wonderful autumn. Besides, the climate is getting warmer anyway. Your imaginary me109 will rot in some unknown lake further more until we find it. Hi hi.

  • Yes, yes, I know. Jawohl, allright? The finnish airforce pilots did find out the shortcomings of the takeoff capabilities of the Me109G2 and G6 very quickly. The secret was to keep it straight, no matter what. The centre of gravity was the key to it all. Keep it straight, and no accidents will accure. Same thing with landings. Remember that the weight point is in the rear.

  • Ok Tolvana, we are here for the love of the machine... I just do not agree with right or wrong. You seem to be a profund coneceur of the plane. May your knoledge prevail... Just for the record, here in Brazil there is a ME109 recovered form a lake in Finland... it is static at a plane museum in São Paulo. Unfortunately, it was repainted with Marcelle markings... pitty...

  • Exactly, the love! I get a bit carried away sometimes as I take these things too seriosly. Silly me. Sorry. At Tikkakoski museum in finland the painter was told to do it "sloppy, wartime style" to get it authentic. An Me-109 g6 in static too. Brazil rocks!

  • The beautyful sound of a 36 L engine and the whistling of the supercharger. We were born at a wrong decade littered with stupid jets.

  • I agree

  • Made in GERMANY... ;)

  • boah voll porno, and those bloody britains who wants to fight against... chanceless...

  • da kriegt man gaensehaut...geil....

  • WOW! SHIVERING LANDING! PLEASE, NOTE THE VERY END OF THE FILM!! The plane woobles sideways... t was always VERY DANGEROUS to land with the ME-109, when most of the accidents occurred... due to the very close together landing gear...

  • Incorrect! The me-109´s landing carriage was 2,1 meters wide, while the spitfires width was only 1,68 meters. Me´s accidents were due to the center of weight too far back on the airframe, and poor training of pilots. The landing gear itself was good, if used "within envelope".

  • jawoul, machines are perfect... the problem is always the man... There is an average concern that both Me 109 and spitfires HAD problems with the landing gear... Sorry, just read and HEAR depoiments of pilots at that time...

  • 109 is the most beatiful plane from ww2.

  • Beautiful. I have an affinity for these warbirds.

  • Very lucky eyes the ones that can see one of the best WWII aircraft... excelent that sound... yahooo !!!

Nice video, tks for sharing this one !

  • you just can't beat the sound of those old piston engines can you

    beautiful

  • nice flight, next time try and get it with a spitfire chasing it with 8 browning machine guns opening up.

    cheers.

  • Totally, if you want a spit with 8 brownings, it would be a spitfire mark 1 or 2. Both models hopelessly inferior to the G-series of the Me-109. Even the F-model would kick too hard. Why not rather a mark 9 spit? That would be more like it. And even the same era of the war.

  • We´ve got it only the other way arround. Sorry, but the Messerschmitt is simply better than the Spitfire. There´s no Spitfire footage against Me 109´s available. :)
