I love this concert! I learned to play drums as a kid from the tape...id scroll the footage of phil playing in slow mo and copy him till i could do it....play lefty cause of phil haha.....AWESOME show....everybody in that band is UBER talented.
'Had the privilege to meet Daryl Stuermer at a Godin guitars presentation held locally. We chat for a good 15 minutes one-on-one of "those years" touring with Collins and the camaraderie between bandmates (especialy Sklar which was described as party animal, the good way) and also his contribution as bass player with Genesis. I pinched myself after that meeting to see if I had dreamed of it or not. What a great human being, very friendly, down-to-earth and accessible. VERY talented guy...
'Ever noticed how high Mr. Thompson sits on his throne? To each his own as they say...
This Berlin recording is, for me, Phil Collins at his best. Not saying he's an has-been now, but my favorite songs are all from this era. Faster tempos, higher-pitch voice, amazing grooves... the golden years. 'Saw 'em 3 times and never got rid of singing these fabulous hits in my car or playing drums (and bass) over these tracks. 'Really miss these years...
Me too but maybe we could be surprised to hear it live "un-mic'ed". Sure they use top-of-the-line gears with awesome tuning and maintenance but as far as I know, the "Collins drum sound" (for example) is build with multi effects (gated reverb to name only one) in the mix. All major touring bands use monster stacks of sound processor / effects when it's not computer-linked. One thing I know, it worth way over what a joe-drummer could make per year at his day job!!!
Even if Leland Sklar appears on most of Collins' best hits, this particular one has been written (the bass line) by Nathan East, based on album's credit. They are both amazing bassists!
Well, wiki says: "All songs written by Phil Collins except 'Something Happened on the Way to Heaven' Written by Phil Collins and Daryl Stuermer and 'Saturday Night And Sunday Morning Written by Phil Collins and Thomas Washington." The source names Nathan East as bassplayer for that particular song, but not as composer for the bassline
I don't know how it works "in-deep" but I presume when they are recording at the studio, a bass player sit there and compose a bass line that fit the song. Maybe Collins can play all instrument but long time bass gurus like Sklar and East can put the magic ingredients that really set the grooves appart. Are they always credited for their contribution? I don't know and in this particular one, I was purely guessing based on what I red in related articles. No offense my friend.
amazing classic love this song so much allong with allot of phil collins his hits! (btw young people do still appreciate this, atleast some do. i am 15 and am a big fan)
Classic Collins. A good example of what made Phil so successful in his earliest years. Great music by superb musicians, and a great pop song w/ solid lyrics and melody. Infectious in every way. This an example of why Collins first 3 CDs are his bestl
five minutes ago i was feeling depressed with not havin a job bein single and bein stuck in on a sataday night but after that song its made me feel alot better and has reali cheered me up so thank you jesuel for postin
BEAUTIFULL SONG ! Doctors should use this song to treat depresion, it always give me hope and bring me back up when I'm feeling sad and down. THANKS PHIL !!
it was the first time i saw him on tv shortly after the wall came down. for me as a young citizen of the former gdr it was the first impression of the "western world". gosh, was it great! what a memory! thank you for that!
I watched him on this tour. One of the best shows i´ve ever seen. Different times. Look, no one´s got a handy to record it in a bad quality(just like today, what a bitch!). We just enjoy the music and have fun. ;-)
Because most parents don't listen to a wide variety of music around there kids anymore so the kids just listen to rap (not music) but it sells, so more singers are doing it.
Too bad this was cut off at 5:02. The applause afterwards went on for a few minutes. The band couldn't start the next song and Phil was so moved he started to tear up. It's very touching to watch.
excellent!!, i love the chorus "huuu" its so...warm, lol. they transmit such a happiness, its like if the condition to be part of phil's band is to transmit happiness and of course, play like hell
Woow so very tight! Brass, Bass, Chester on Drums, Darryl and Phil, 100% quality! So tight and CD recording style but with the live atmos thanks jesuslel nice vid
Phil Collins is still one of the geniuses of classic rock. He can make either a good love song/soundtracks/everyday rock songs etc. Amazing part is he is just as good live as in studio. He shows the fans that its not all about the money but the heart of music.
I am not a very big Phil Collins fan. I am s\also not a huge fan of most of Genisis, {I know I spelt that wrong. LOL}BUT! I LOVE a couple of his songs .I also have the utmost respect for that man.He Is unreal. He is all natural. For real. TYVM for posting.
yes surely one of the best song ever and one of the top five in the phil collins discography.simply incerdible and extraordinary that he can sing so well in live, it feels like he is singing like if it was a cd. incredible artist. i wish ja rule one day sample the instrumental and make it a rn'b hip hop tube like he did with livin it up
Absolutely one of the best songs ever....and one of the best concerts ever! Thanks for the post. just love this song. For a while now I was trying to find out what it was called. Thanks for the upload! phil collins sounds just as good live as studio singing how many so called perfromers can do that these days ?????
