Are you not concerned about Bears? Cooking so close to your camp? It is suggested to cook your food at least 100 yards away. Your thoughts? Do you hang your food in a tree?
@99bugout You are absolutely right....Anywhere where I am not familiar I will take every precaution necessary. Where I am right now I was not concerned because the bears where hibernating for the winter. Thanks
@bushcraftbartons - Reply - That's a good point, during Bear Hibernation, one would be less likely to have a bear attack. I think I would be packing some heat anyway, Just in case.. Great Vids btw/ Looking forward to watching the rest of them. Great country up there.. Are you finding the winters becoming more mild? Less snow, etc? I have not even heard one airplane flying over on your vids.. Any chance to show more animals and wild life would be great. Have Fun!!
for some reason i can't stop watching, even though not much is happening lol thanks for the video. where are you in canada? i'm on the island. do you ever have bear trouble cooking where you sleep?
@robjloranger The reason you kept watching when not much was going on, is because you were there with him in this amazing spot. LOL If you were like me, I was kind of 'going there in my mind'. Mainly because I just got off work and am sitting here in front of my computer instead of being out where there is life.
Thanks 'bushcraftbartons for helping us escape for awhile. God bless you my friend.
hey man...nice video, but i was really worried you were gonna slice open your femoral artery when you were working with that knife..maybe not such a great example for the inexperienced? well done though, i have subscribed to your channel.
@dexterlexter123 Because it is winter they freeze up and stay nice all winter. They would need to be changed by early summer and again beore the winter.
Awesome kitchen Mike! Love how you have built all the comforts a person could ask for. I bet that can of Chef Boy R Bushcraft tasted like heaven with the subtle fragrance of spruce and camfire, and warmed the belly too. Thanks for letting us hang out with you! : )
I'm a new subscriber, and the furthest thing from a bushmaster. Every since I was a kid ( I'm in late 40's now)I always had the fascination of living out in the wild. Unfortunately I'm a big wuss to do so. lol I hate snakes, bugs and whatever else creepy crawlers. So I will live my life vicariously through you and your videos. Will you add a front part to your shelter so you can survive a few winter nights?? Will you film in the snow? Thank you for your videos. I'm a kid all over again!!
Mike, that set up is very much like the Chippewa kitchen we use in the lower 48. The Chippewa has two clay burners on one side. Instead of the tri-pod it uses 2 bi-pods. The design is very close. I to am a believer in the tri-pod stands a powerful configuration. Great vid.
Awesome vid brother :o) The new Camera is Smokin' hot! Your shelter area is lookin' so sweet too. You'll have to move in to it permanently...haha! You can even make a bed underneath for the pooch Sally :o) Awesome Kitchen :o)
@Naturliebe Thank you vey much Tito...If you come around my corner of the world some day...give me a ring :) A Merry Christmas to you and Family as well....
Chef Boyardee, worth the weight and the wait ;) Awesome camp, love the sound of the creek. How cold was it that day Mike? Amazed you don't have snow yet but no hurry I know, Just a few centimetres here in eastern Manitoba. Last year it was 23cm at this time!?
Nice!Awesome spot to spend a day off,im kind of jealous, but it is on the good side of jealousy,i have so much respect for what you do,really got talent Mike!
Boy am I big time jealous of you;-) Nice munchies, Mike. I love lasagne and I love pasta:) Dunno about the spice, we haven't got that over here that I know of, but it didn't half look nice:) Great fire.
No Josie today :( Hope she's all right? Much love to you both, Jen
@ChristLikeness100 Thank you Jen...love pasta as well :) Easy and simple and taste great...We are doing well...Appreciate your concern...Thank you very much.
@bushcraftbartons thanks for asking. I've seen your vids from Haiti? Apart of a medical team? Not yet, getting rev'ed up. No certain date, but soon. Headed there to do several mechanical projects, developing resources and installing off-grid type of tech typically used in the third world and in this case to support a larger mission with orphaned kids. Will employ PV, ram pumps and for irrigation and potable water, bio-sand water filters, solar hot water heaters, etc
Nice video! Great spoon! I prefer rice mix. The best I found so far is Jambolia, I add jerky and any fish, fresh or dried. Man its like eating like a king! So good and it is alot smaller and lighter weight plus you can burn all the trach up, no can. Try some rice mix you will enjoy it so much you will want to send me some moose or deer meat! LOL. Any way I like your kitchen a lot. I have seen this b4 but they called it an Apache kitcken.
@dlvmark Sounds good :) Had no idea this was called an Apache kitchen...thanks for letting me know...maybe I have some native blood in me I did not know about :)
Hey,I woke up this morning feeling kind of down and watching you sit by that fire in a great covering made me smile. You never know what will help another human being. Thanks
Some real thought went into your kitchen Mike. Excellent setup and some really good points, not only on construction but usage too. Fire is such a wonderful thing when it’s under control. The hot meal, especially on a cool day, looked wonderful. BTW, the nearby stream is a great audio backdrop.
Awesome setup you've made. Perhaps you could consider giving classes during the week? I know a Pastors life is a busy one but at 2-300 a head for a 3-4 day class is totally worth it for the students & would help the ministry too... Anyway, just food for thought :)
@nchiker1971 Thanks Eric....I have thought of doing that for a while now but as you said just out of time....will see in the future...thanks for the food for thought :) I will keep it there for a while :)
Brother Mike, it is so nice to be able to share some time with you. I can't get out right now, but your video is so well done that I felt like I was right there. BTW I thought that you would have 3 or 4 feet of snow by now. :~)
God bless. John
P. S. still in pain, but getting a little better every day.
@snaponjohn100 Thanks Brother....the snow comes and goes these days but will come to stay pretty soon....thanks for keeping me posted....my prayers are with you...get well soon John..
Super kitchen, Mike, great building ; ) Great pot hanger! Very good job. Thank you so much for sharing! Great fire und with your Chef, you will survive : )) Looks great, my friend. Enjoy! Happy Sunday, Sepp
@cahoonu Thanks....My jacket is about 20 years old....I cant remember where I got it or who made it....the tags are gone as well...but yes it is a tough and pretty warm. I had bought this for hunting but use it now for just being in the woods.
Another stellar video! Great kitchen setup, and appreciate all the 'hints & tips' to make it work. No doubt you're going to really miss this retreat if/when the snows get to deep for you there ... I know we will!. And thanks for the chuckle re showing off your bush cuisine ;-).
Hey, GREAT job my friend. And I see your personal space is still personal = ) I don't ever get tired of watching your videos. In fact, there are about three people I llok forward to every night when I get on YT, and you are one of them. Love your vids. Waldhandwerk is one too. Thanks for another super vid, pal. Say "hello" to your squaw for me. She's always good in your vids. ~Wolf
Also you could build a ring of rocks around your fire, and at night roll the rocks under your bed site to keep you warm. just a thought.
