This is first. Then I'd have to say Doc Watson is next. Then Bill Monroe..I haven't yet listened to Thorogood's version. Doc Watson's version is phenomenal though, if you can find it.
i think i must be the only argentinian guy here. hey i love the american southern music from rocoe holcomb, ralph stanley and dock boggs to rebel meets rebel (with alan coe and the members of pantera got to listen the album with the same name) the reason because i comment this video is to show how far the music can reach when it´s made it with the soul and i want to share with you an artist just like roscoe from our traditional music "UÑA RAMOS" i hope you love it like i feel this music. adios!
@numberone1990 I agree with you totally ! Here in England nearly all pop music is music made to make money rather than from the heart! Dont know what its like in Argentina but in the uk its only folk /americana worth hearing. Try an artist called CW Stoneking an Australian guy Greetings from a snow covered England!
I always thought Ralph Stanley's voice captured the essence of all that had came and gone in the mountians of the south but after listening to Roscoe, I'd say Ralph has an equal.
@mandolinman2006 Hi, two years on - its a Harmony Sovereign H1260 circa 1960 made in Chicago. Solid one piece back, book matched Spruce top and ladder braced internals, finished in shellac (French Polish) Jumbo size and famous for its deep tone.
I've trying to work out a way to play the guitar in banjo style for a year or two - maybe I'll just give up now I've heard Roscoe Holcomb. The real solid stuff,
I can still see my dad singing this 3 sheets to the wind lol

That is what was formerly known as a fast thumb-brush strum. A real nail grinder on a steel string acoustic but he don't seemed to mind much.

Best version of this song. George thorogood is a distant second.

That's an amazing video. Does anybody know what brand of guitar is? It looks and sounds great. It doesn't look like a Gibson or Martin.
mandolinman2006 3 years ago
The shot wasn't very clear but the headstock looks like a Harmony.

Great voice and I love the constant, unpredictable meter changes. They don't make musicians like this anymore.
