  • damn u got a big ass dent in ur forehead might wanna get that fixed lmfao

  • don;t think of a.it as a laptop. because of its size you can now compare it to tablets and it will become the most powerful tablet out

  • yeah it´s for gays, and for people who knows shit about computer!!!

  • on the release of the macbook air, steve jobs argues that other thin notebooks are thin because they compromise on features.....

  • MacBook Air is an absolute beauty. I called the toll free number 18004254646 to find out the price list of Apple macs. I was told that they have some good offers for University students in India. MacBook pro is on my Christmas wishlist.

  • who cares about all this hard drive crap i mean really??? its 3/4 of an inch thick is a an amazing feat for technology!!!

  • @Swimboy0624

That's an "amazing feat for technology"? Wow, you're easily impressed. My notebook is about 1 inch thick and has everything that macAir doesn't have: useful CPU speed, decent HDD, 3 USB 2s, built-in DVD burner with LightScribe, dedicated LAN, modem, and wi-fi, VGA port, removable battery & RAM, built-in memory card slot, 15.6 inch LCD, dual core 64-bit AMD @ 2 GHz.

The Air is a waste of technology. An over-sized pricey netbook is all that it is.

  • I think there was a Sony VAIO which was even thinner, but meh.

1000$ for a 64 SSD is kind of a ripoff since the hdd is replaced and it doesn't cost that much...

They should've included at least a second USB port :-/

  • Check Apple's website, apple(dot)com/macbookair

It now has a 2.13 GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a 128 Gb SSD. For the high-end model, of course.

And be honest, how often are you going to use more than one USB port? If you've got Bluetooth, then there's really no need for extraneous USB ports.

  • Well I prefer a wired mouse so I don't have to worry about the mouse battery and I have to use an usb stick(s) from time to time.

I dunno I don't think it sucks bad but I just prefer my Akoya 1312 which fits in an envelope like the air x-P

  • If you use good batteries, they don't die that often. I use Energizer Lithium batteries. Or you could use rechargeable lithium batteries.

In the end, it depends on your personal preference/needs.

  • but it was a good review nevertheless

  • "...I moved some stuff to an external hard drive, it was HARD for me"

    lmfao

I was actually into what he was saying up until that point.

  • Great review, thank´s.

  • his left eyebrow is always raised. why is this? great review though

  • yes, i noticed that... hmmmm? maybe he just developed a habit of doing that while on camera to make himself more interesting.

  • That is one big ass TRUCK out of the window at 1:49 !!

  • Comment removed

  • ugh i want one and now he just made me change my mind lol....cause is true you have to be carries more stuff, i like it cause im only gonna use it for internet, email, photos, videos, and editing. so is good but eh im changing my mind....

  • this macworld dude jason snell hi is cool

  • its saweet

  • "one of the things that the macbook air requires you to do is: MAKE DO WITH LESS".....isnt that what apple, as a company, is all about?

  • 4:16 lol who left their phone next to the camera?

  • i like that old mac in the back

  • lol..

  • So, there's no optical drive, meaning that if you want one, you need to buy a separate, clunky drive. So much for the thinness of the laptop, eh? Or what if you want more space? Need a separate USB HDD. But you can't have boh, because there's only one USB jack. WTF? And it's the slowest mac currently made? And it's $3,000?!

What the hell are you paying for?

  • yeah, but what user would still need a optical drive in 2009? a couple of 14 year old gamers perhaps? but now that all software is online, the need for an optical has disappeared.

you can always install a bigger hard drive, or use a wireless hard drive... ah, why would you ever need the usb port for a HD? you don't sound very computer literate with a comment like that.

and no, the MacBook Air has always been $1,799, not $3,000!

please don't post to youtube unless you understand a product!

  • I like the idea of Apple slashing the price to something closer to the $1000 range to truly compete with the netbooks. Because isn't that really what this is with a $1800 price tag?!?

  • yeah, the electronics and engineering of a MacBook Air is a high premium for someone that doesn't need that many features.

Apple has the excellent MacBook for $999 for people that aren't as demanding... so perhaps this is the machine for you?

  • does it have a cd thing

  • nope

  • No, but you can upload dataa from CD software onto it by putting that CD into another omputer, and then hooking that computer up to the macbook air wirelessly, so you would never need an opitical drive if you have another computer (PC OR Mac) in your home with an optical drive.

  • yes, of course... any $39 cd drive will work until you are up to speed in the modern world.

  • the macbook air has no noise. even the hd version, sweet!

it's like a huge iPod Touch.

  • mac book air SUCKS u pay $1799 for nothing

1)it has only 1 USB port

    2)Doesn't have Ethernet plug

    3)Can't upgrade RAM

4)YOU can't take out the battery

5)Does not have a CD drive

    what a WASTE

  • 1) it's fully wireless, why would you even need "1" usb port?

    2) you can add an ethernet port if you have an ancient network.

    3) it comes with 2GB, that's plenty for the next 3, 4 years.

    4) it's easy to replace the battery, just a couple screws on the bottom.

    5) why would you need a CD drive? i can't think of reason in this day and age.

basically you forgot to understand its "wireless", what you wrote is like you were still living in 1996.

  • lol just a couple of screws on the bottom

still u waste a huge amount of money for nothing

  • considering you only do it once every 4 years, it's not a problem... plus, most people buy a new laptop every 4 years so it's unlikely a new user will ever have to do it.

    you're just jealous that's all.

  • I am not jealous I have one.

And I don't like it because for the same anount of money i could buy a AWESOME PC laptop that would be much better then the Macbook air.

I pretty cool but its not worth it

  • ethernet is much faster.

2 GB is pretty standard right now, and won't be for long.

We still use CDs sometimes, but not TOO often, so i see your point there.

But what about installing programs that are CD only? That's a pretty big problem, along with not being able to import your cd collection.

but i partly agree with you

  • incorrect.

802.11n is about the same speed as 100BaseT.

2GB is a nice amount, but remember OSX isn't a memory hog like Vista so 2GB is fine for the next 3 to 5 years.

Yes, CDs are fading, the MacBook Air is on the opposite side of this change.

The MacBook Air can use any CD Drive you have via Wireless, google around for the MacBook Air Tour, it's pretty cool how it works.

Most people moved their music to iTunes years ago, but if you still need to do it, add a $39 USB CD drive, then you are done

  • osx leopard uses just as much ram as windows vista ultimate, 2GB is not going to be fine until 2014, no way in hell. the point in this is that it's for people on the move, he says that, so having an external drive is not the point, it does not solve the problem. and not having n draft? seriously bad for this type of product

  • technically, it uses about 23% less memory during regular operation than Vista. and sure, in a full 5 years, 2GB will be tight, but it will still run quite well with several apps running. (6-8 apps)

yes, the macbook air is for executives on the go, and sophisticated home users in upper income households.

n draft? it has full 802.11n, the draft spec ended quite awhile ago... all apple products are 802.11n... final spec.

  • not from the memory bechmark i saw, i think either ZDNet or CNet did a video benchmark for memory and vista used about 1% more.

i think you'd be surprised at how far technology will have advanced by 2014, 2GB will likely be the new 256MB.

i know it says it's n capable, but i couldn't understand why i couldn't get my friends to work with his non-apple n draft router, it just wouldn't go over 100Mbps, even sitting next to it

  • actual use of vista and osx natively on the same macbook air show 24% faster, see barefeets.

no, i wouldn't be surprised, i've been at this for 29 years, and 5 more isn't going to render 2GB obsolete. 10.5 OSX runs well in 256MB, so 2GB in 5 years isn't going to change matters.

yes, but what router? an apple one? or a cheap ass linksys one?

  • it's not apple, or airport or anything, but it's very good, n draft belkin.

and you can't can't that it runs WELL on 256, it runs, but just.

  • yeah, i like belkin or netgear...

and it actually does run well in 256MB... even 128MB with a few apps is quite usable... you need to keep in mind it's UNIX, not Windows or the old Class Mac OS.

it will install on any G3 or G4 with 64MB and "run"... but that's where it gets pretty slow.

but again, 256MB on any 6, 7 year old mac is a good workhorse for less than $150 or so...

  • well i don't think it's everyday usable on 256MB, no way, but i guess that's opinion

  • well, it's fine for email, word processing, itunes and the web.

but yes, video production and games it's too tight...

do you use Macs? just curious...

  • Thats the old version of it

  • There should be a disclaimer on this video that while he came out in support of the Macbook Air, he gets his for free.

I'd love to have one for free, but at the price they charge its a piece of garbage.

This review is useless with that in mind.

  • u sux cocks

  • sounds like something that fits me. im gonna get it its gonna be my first mac so i hope its good as it sounds (except price its very pricery)

  • ph41l

  • interesting. I can't wait until this is the standard in a few years

  • SOLD

  • can you put a mouse ?

  • yes you could, it could be either USB or Bluetooth !

  • i was playing around with one of these alday yesterday in my local apple store in milton keynes uk. its not worth the money. say like 1000 pounds get mac book air or save about 1500 pounds get dell inspiron 1525

  • i do agree that is over rly overpriced just because it is thinner

this product would be much better if it were not such a hight price but its not designed to be your only computer unless u just want to browse the internet and look at some pictures

  • who cares if its 3 pounds less mac book pro os the best!

  • yes i like the mac book air but like you said it not for everyone i am more of an editor edeting videos and i dont think its going to run any of the final cut express or studio its very nice thin and not heavy and i would like it but it wont work for me i have a imac 2.8 GHZ intel proccesor the current one and i have to say i love it i use to be a windows user not any more pc drives me crazy there was some days were i just wanted to trow it of the freeway but with mac its like living in heaven .

  • Why not just carry 2 pounds more, have more money in your pocket, and have A LOT more features. This thing is for rich people who just need to spend money.

  • that was a really great and thorough review! i think i want the macbook more than the air.

  • oh. and thx for the review. :D

  • but i do give them props for the smallest mac laptop;

  • it's slow?

    oh geez.

    that sucks.

uhm, is the internet connection fast??

  • nope, no ethernet so good luck!

  • no, it still has ethernet if you want it.

but with 802.11n, what would be the point?

  • For optical drive, you can borrow any other mac's optical on the network you are on. Problem solved for people who are already mac users ,and might work with pcs also. Not sure?

  • excellent and thorough review! thanks alot!

  • I would like the lisa in the back ground. I think its the lisa it might be a mac though. I dont know. but I would like it!!!!

  • I don't think it's a Lisa. It might be a Mac 128k

  • a good and balanced review...

sometimes when im carrying my macbrrok pro aound in my backpack, i wish i'd bought a macbook air instead...its so portable (personally, i dont care for a dvd drive, as i have most of my s/w on a hard drive these days)

  • A very balanced review.

  • i meant to say:

    "I'm NOT saying you can't enjoy a PC . . . "

    sorry X-P

  • no, this was pretty much a straight and honest review. As for the bias in the review, I'm sure anyone would want to support what they work for or use. What i personally love about Macs is that they always do "enough." Not more than or less than, just simply enough (and then some). All these PCs and "other" laptops and computers love to claim how the can do MORE or have more FEATURES, but that's exactly the problem. Most of the time the "MORE" is stuff people don't need anyway...> (continued)

  • As far as longevity is concerned, I could see myself (or many others) with the Mac Air for months in the future. Yes, it's not the BEST laptop you'll find but for people that won't need it for anything but general use, college (papers, music, etc...), it's definitely enough to last. Pricey? Absolutely. But alot of people tend to forget something about Apple (which many like to poke at as "Apple worship" or "over-hyped"), this is Apple we're talking about here! It's not just about...(continued)

  • throwing a laptop together and giving lots of features. No, it's about all the R and D (research and development), making sure the products are user-friendly, moving away from blue screens, finding and doing what you want and when you want, and most importantly, enjoying it! I'm saying you can't enjoy a PC (i did for MANY years) but once i came upon Apple, i never looked back. As for the Air, beyond the price and "compromises," I think it'll make a fine laptop for college!

    . . . and beyond

    = )

  • This isn't a review, this is more like an ad. Everything he said about mac air was bad, and he supported all of them. There are laptops just as light that can do more, for about two thirds of the price of this or less? I don't understand why people would buy it. 5 hours to charge? can't replace the battery? People I know sometimes spend more than 12 hours on the plane, 3 hours running time is just ridiculous because this product seems to prioritize frequent travellers.

  • There are laptops just as light? Um. Name one.

He didn't support them; he explained them. He explained them to the masses who would whine that a Ferrari lacks a back seat.

  • You do realize that ferarris are eqquiped with engines that could tear you apart right? Lots, not exactly sure of the models but from Sony Vaio(although pricy, fully upgradable), Acer, Asus, etc. Okay most of them aren't as light but if youre complaining about carrying a tiny vaio or a 10 inch screened acer, youve got problems. And theres this new brand of laptops from asia that makes 8 inch screened laptops, the thing weighs like feather, has more features, costs one fifth of the air

  • what I want to ask you is, do you see yourself using the Air after, lets say, 2-3 months? Most people I ask say no, because it's not a very practical machine. So why buy something so expensive when they know for a fact they wouldnt use it very long? My guess is, because it looks so good that people just dont really care. I understand thats how it is, people dont really care what something can do nowadays, people care about how they look like and the Air has that.

  • Oh, it's pure curiosity, no doubt about it. It's sort of like a BMW Z3 - cute and draws comments... and perfectly useless. But presumably this asshole knew what he was buying before he bought it. And if he really didn't have the sense to check the specs beforehand... well then, he deserves to be disappointed. But he can't blame anybody but himself.

As far as I know, it is exactly as advertised.

  • Yeah exactly. I mean I dont hate apple for releasing the Air, they were honest from the beginning about it. But I hate the fact that so many fanboys defend the air for no specific reason other than because its a product from apple, and its paper thin. I can assure the only good point they can come up with is portability, and thats about it.

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to call this guy an asshole. I was thinking of the bearded prick in another video who was ranting that he couldn't remove the battery, didn't have an optical drive, etc. etc. etc. Maybe you've seen it.

  • yea, I've seen it. I dont know why nobody got it, he was trying to be funny. It was very obvious.

  • Eh. Didn't quite hit the note. :(

  • good details listed

  • scince the macbook air's hardrive is 80gb from a ipod classic can't apple make an option for 160gb as it is in the ipod classic aswell

  • You would think but no. The 160 GB HDD is a little bit thicker than the 80 GB. That's why the 160 GB iPod is thicker than the 80 GB.

And it just so happens the 160 GB HDD won't fit in the MBA.

  • i have the same computer that you have in the background :D

  • i don't wont to start a battle of OS but really if u want to pay 2000 dollars for this piece of crap then u should check out the ASUS Eee for like 300 dollars

  • jackiechan72 -- does what you said actually work?! did you die yet?

  • seriously im right there with ya

  • it's really good for travel but i would never get one but it is a good idea

  • I dont wanna be harsh here but..so many people care about every little problem. So wat if you have to cary the superdrive around, Or just copy the files wirelessley from your computer so you have it on the go before going on a trip or somethin.

  • If all you want is light and small. Get a eee pc from ASUS. You can drop them like 10 feet and they're actually smaller total than these. They've even got more ports.

  • the screen may be small for some though

  • The Air is expensive and isn't something all Mac users will want because of the lack of a CD drive and not a huge hard drive. Also the screen is teeny.

But if you can afford it, and you already have a Mac at home and you just want a laptop for wireless stuff, I'd say its a great thing to have. Just not many people will fit those qualifications.

  • im all for MAC's and everything apple does, becuase the way apple designs its products are just asstounding, but i agree with smurf. not beasue this machine totally blows- but becuase theres a small audience that will find the MBA bennificial, i just dont happen to be one of them, if i was offered,a macbook with 2.4 GHz, 2B memory and a 120 gig hardrive (not to mention the duperdrive) i would be all over, becuase im one of those ppl that need those things; speed, size, CD/DVD, idc bout wieght.

  • Great objective review. It will bring out all the Mac haters. Apple is the #1 tech. company in the world and can afford to cater to a niche segment who want a light innovative laptop and of course have the jack to acquire it. Give Steve Jobs the props on another great product.

  • I agree, apple is practically my religion, I wish I had a mac book air

  • The contempt Apple has for its customers has no bounds. Battery replacement isn't even covered under warranty.

  • Good honest review from someone who knows what they are talking about....MBA is different and i went through the same debate and if I should buy one....well...Bought it this morning...should ship here in the next two weeks...and I don't have any regrets....yet...

  • In my opinion, this machine sucks. IT is THE most expensive macbook, and has no qualities (other than thinness) that are beneficial. It's harddrive, disk drive, anything drive are ALL wireless... which sucks for your transportation needs.... Also, it seems way too easy to break. So its thin, and not protable cuz i cant keep much on it and cant put a disk in anyways. SUCKS for the price

  • Blasphemy! It's Thinnovation, I tells ya! THINNOVATION!!!!

  • well... it is not the most expensive... the macbook pro is way expensier

  • 200 more dollars for the baseline one, u get 2 more inches of screen and 800 more mhz of porcessor and not to mention more usb ports a cd drive and a pretty good graphics card

  • awesome piece of technology. very expensive anyway, but it could be worth for a professional user. and it can run mac os x and xp/vista.

  • Great review. Its a VERY hyped product, so videos like these are very usefull for those who think that price can buy all benefits. In MacBookAir, its one Pro against a lot of Cons..

    thnx

  • it too bad that your dumb and the reason being macbook air has so little ports and drives is because it's all wireless you wirelessly connect to a drive on another comp duu

  • Video 101: Hold The Damn Thing Without Waving It Around.

The amateur video detracts from the review.

  • Seriously. Macs SUCK. End. Go Windows if you want good comps. Apples is only good at making iPods lol.

  • hahaha yes sony vaio! ahahha yes! my sony vaio would kill all of your mac desktop or laptops so suck a dick:)

    windows or die.

but lets all get along here and we can say windows/mac or die your choice.

  • I'd really like to meet this guy in a dark alley with a roll of duct tape and a wiffleball bat.

  • lol

  • How am I a racist? I simply stated that the MacBook Air is aimed at the Japanese market. They're not interested in bulky, powerful notebooks. They want products that are lightweight and ultra-mobile.

  • I like the macbook air, the coolest part is definitely the solid state hard drive. However, I'm not going to by it to easy to break.

  • actually its prettyy durable even though it looks fragile

  • nerds

  • Ignoramus.

  • your watching this?..we cant talk about it? moron

  • well if reviews and opinions didnt exist then someone might buy this hoping for the exact stuff it dosent do

  • It's not like it's a secret.

  • thats my point, but if reviews didnt exist though would you know about its issues?...

    the answer is no

im saying people might buy it just cause its new

  • What amuses me is that people still think my 2Ghz G5 Dual Core is pretty doggone fast, but the MacBook Air is considerably faster, but people claim it's "underpowered". Mine is supposed to ship March 3, and I can't wait.

  • Other companies could build notebooks without an optical drive, not too many ports, do a little bit of research and engineering and produce something like the Macbook Air but nobody is producing anything similar right now, so I have to give the credits to Apple! I wouldn't buy it but I think there is a market for it, too!

  • IXNAY on the MACNAY

  • NIX on the NMAC???

  • I agree with UbiquitousGeek. If you really want a small, compact, light mac the Macbook Air is perfect. If you want a mac who you can save things on and which goes faster then go for the Macbook or Macbook pro which also is good for gaming.

    GO AIR!

    GO MAC!

  • He used Photoshop. Mac can play games!!

  • This product is aimed at your girl firend who has an i pod already and is only buying it for the fact it is samll like the buyers brain cell count.

  • that an original 1984 macintosh in the background?

  • Good god, people. This is aimed at someone with a 24" imac or a Mac Pro who wants something to carry to the coffee shop. It's not a desktop replacement like the MBP. It's an ancillary laptop, not a primary device.

  • Exactly.

  • i dont care about the size, size is useless.

i care about the abilities, thats why i love this video

  • Everyone conveniently forgets that Apple already builds cheaper and more powerful notebooks. This notebook was built for people who want a notebook with a light footprint. Why can't you people get that through your thick skulls? As I've said a million times already, I don't hear anyone bitching about underpowered UMPCs running Windows.

  • Come on! You know you have to give up something for getting something that is that small. If you want something so small you HAVE to give something up, you cant expect the whole thing to be the best!!!!

  • I think people were expecting way too much out of the macbook air. they were expecting it to replace the macbook and macbook pro for good, but in the end, it's just another addition to apple's list of varying products

  • well apple did overhype it a lot

  • How did Apple overhype it? All Apple did was unveil it and give it a commercial. You want to talk about hype, look at how much talking Microsoft did about Windows Vista. That's hype. The only people responsible for the MacBook Air's "hype" are the people writing about it in their blogs.

  • yeah and then windows vista came out and SUCKED!

  • Correction when the Beta versions came out it SUCKED! And mactards who never touched it nor the real release found an opportunity to mouth off. Seriously OSX sux ballz and is compatible with very little out there.

Little business apps, very few games, Cad programs mostly for PCs, but mac has small market with paint/photo and music programs. But even that is dwarfed by what the PC has to offer ;)

Admit it, Mac is for losers that cant be more creative than Apple lets them.

  • The price is the main issue - for what you get -versus- the price, the Macbook Air is a major problem that will make Windows laptops appear to a better value.

As a Mac user, I am disappointed with the Macbook Air - it lacks substance for the sky high price that Apple is charging.

  • The difference here is that if had been Dell that released a notebook as light and thin as this, it wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful. This thing packs a lot into it's tight space. The MacBook is as thin as it gets without sacrificing a lot of power. The Air continues to reduce the size, but you have to start giving up some features. It doesn't make PC notebooks a better value. Never. Just because you can't remember that Apple makes better notebooks doesn't mean that they don't exist.

  • Of course I care about processor speed, storage space and flexibility why else would I buy a laptop?? The MacBook Air seems like a rip off. BTW... what's up with the space between this guy's eyes- it's dented :o

  • So if I want a notebook with a fast processor, drive space, an optical drive, options, and flexibility in general its not so good? Who exactly does this appeal to then? I mean come on, its only two pounds lighter... Thanks for saving me some money though!

  • I think the Macbook Air is pretty darn cool--I don't keep that much data on my computer, so I might've been interested. But the lack of optical drive is really the reason why I'm not really thinking about it. Can't even put in a CD or DVD without towing the external drive? Blah. I guess it's very useful if you lug your computer around a lot. In any case, like you said, it's a great product, just not right for everyone.

  • haha spartan guess what i have a dog too and guess what else your a retard

  • Yeah. This is yet another piece of apple crap. You'd be better off lugging around an old school apple with dual 5 1/2" true floppy disk drive for your Oregon Trail and Picadilly......Where to put the tube monitor.....

  • hahaha

  • "The moment that changed it for me, was when I put it in my backpack, and I felt those two pounds disappear"

    ahahahahaha

a two pound piece of crap you can fit in your backpack.

    how nice.

  • MacBook Air, biggest disappointment to Apple fans everywhere. What the hell is the purpose of making it thinner instead of smaller? What am I gonna do, cut carrots with it?

  • haha "its all about limited options" wow.. sounds sweet, I love being limited!

  • at 10:40ish he says apple has freedom now to reliese something like this...i dont think so... i see it as a despiration atempt to gain more customers that will in the end fail

  • Fail... You mean like the iPod? The iPhone? The soaring sales of Macs? Apple knows this is a niche product, they're not building these things in the same numbers as other Mac notebooks, they won't lose a dime.

  • The problem with that statement is you are debating how this product has done before its life is over. Blu-Ray just won the format war. We should allow the product to finish out its life before we judge it. PS3 and the Air could show to be big successes in the long run.

  • this product makes a statement (apple makes the thinnest most stylish products) as well as an appeal for a certain audience that wishes to have something this small. if you have the money and you need something like this, then obviously you're going to get it.

all these people saying "omg worst product ever", that's because it obviously wasn't marketed with you in mind; stfu.

  • I've been a mac user for years now, since i've been in diapers, and i really don't think this is a good product!

  • i love macs... but the air doesn't make it...

  • SUCKERS I GOTTA VISTA PRENIUM LAPTOP (15.4'' wide screen) and its hooked up to a 320 GB HARD DRIVE (real drive 120 GB)
