I want to buy your video, but when I click the .org link it goes to Amazon. My friend is an author and I know he makes more when he sells his book rather than when Amazon sells it.
In short, where do I buy in order to make sure you get the most cash?
@Gmancrap Well obviously Lydia Lunch is because she's against everyone and everything, but I don't think anyone else in the documentary made any comments suggesting that.
I'm SOOOO glad that you posted this! I actually shot the footage of Bee & Flower! I loaned my DVD copy to a fella in Oslo, Norway, and it's been MIA ever since! Thanks for posting... Love this film! DIY! ;-D
Just got your book DIY or DIE and LOVE chapter 15...I read it first cause I needed the juice...just so hard at 58 yo to finally be doing it...thanks!!!
MWD, I'm a sort of fan myself. I am a proud owner of your $30 FS book and I use it as a guide to making my own DV movies. The advice you provide in the book and in the movie DIY or DIE is phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into their own no-budget filmmaking. I am my own no-budget DV movie maker myself and you can see some of my work on my profile and channel if you get the time. Thank you for the book, and congrats on making your name known as an "indie filmmaker".
Bought this YEARs ago, not knowing what it would be about. I love it and still watch it to give myself a boost, a reminder of why I do what I do (and that I'm not the only one who thinks this way)!
Joseph Campbell basically said that artists define the mythology of our times; they are the agents for change and progress, and they don't do it by "being pragmatic" but by chasing all kinds of dreams, big and small (the pyramids would never have been built had the pharohs based their decision on a return-on-investment analysis). Michael has put together a fantastic, no bullshit portrait of exactly who these people are in our times. Great job, Michael.
This is a great documentary and dare i say it,, inspirational in a hippydippy-less way, without the gushing optimism. I like how it redefines "making it big." It embraces the realities, sheds light on some of the glaze of the self made donut. It's fast moving and puts all the interviews on an even playing field. it's not perfect, but it's minor flaws are reconciled with heart. it certaintly recharged my batteries when i first saw it at Gilman a buncha years back.
Love this film Michael. I posted a quick article about it on my site, hopefully that will bring in a few new viewers. Keep on rockin' and thanks for all your hard work that made this film possible!
Michael, I have your DVD, but I don't understand why you would post the whole thing here and then attempt to sell it for 7.95. You may know more about this than I do...let me know.
Unusual responses on this video again.

@madmanmikey Go ahead and get it from Amazon. (this is the filmmaker, Michael Dean, posting from his new account.)

Ironic, seeing as how I bet some of these guys spend thousands of dollars to attend an art school. But claim that they are "so against society".
Gmancrap 10 months ago
@Gmancrap Not everyone who believes in doing it yourself is against society.

Hey, that was recorded when I was punk! FYI I'm still DIY. Are you going to have a 10th Anniversary party for DIY?

I didn't have to ask why you posted the whole movie on YouTube. To me, it seems only natural that the filmmaker of a video about DIY would do so.

for me DIY means being genuinely connected with what you're into rather than passively receiving whatever a distant industry decides you might like.

conveniently the pyramids also wouldn't have been built if it wasn't for mass exploitation. yeah, awesome.
