The female commentator is wrong. The USA still would have won gold in Atlanta even had all of Moceanu's scores been dropped instead of just her vaults in the optional events.
@nicksline Actually she may have been...around 1997, the Károlyis retired...again, and she was being coached by many different people at the gym, that her family built and managed. As you said, she did train with Mary Lee until 2000, but it never did say when she started training with her.
@Freakgrl04 She began training with luminita Micshenko (sp?) in late 1997/1998 and regained her old form but her parents sacked her coach in 1998 as they felt she was a bad influence on Dominique. This is what began Dominique's attempts at "divorcing" her parents. She then was injured in 1998 but began training again with Mary Lee in late 1999 in preparation for the trials. So the commentator managed to see two years into the future!!
@nicksline I thought that the trouble with her parents had more to do with her money and the alleged abuse that she had from her father? It was a sad situation regardless, I'm glad that they reconciled before her father passed away.
@tmwalkerm It was to do with the money as well but they also fired her coach who had really improved her in 1998. The abuse thing was always...debateable. But they definitely wasted her money.
@nicksline if they had that much control over her, and her training, as far as "debatable" abuse, whether it was physical or mental, was probable. She testified that her father slapped her and screamed at her if she made mistakes or questioned them, that to me is abuse.

Can you compete at World's if you're younger than 16, or is it just the Olympics?

I think Mary Lee might have been the worlds team coach so maybe the commentator was refering to that. Since she wasnt coached by MLT untill 2000
