  • This petal is good but this sounds trebely as hell. I'm wearing the earbuds that go in your head somewhat deep, and watching this was painful.

  • Puffy guitar player cant eq a ped for shit man...

  • Okay, I went and listened to this pedal on 3 other YT vids. It sounded better on every other one I listened to. Damn Paul, back off the treble.

  • Damn, this vid had me reaching to see where my treble control was at on my PC speakers. Is it really this ice-picky? They should have named this pedal "EarsB.bleedin". Sorry, I don't get it. I expected some bottom end with it.

  • it doesnt even sound good! shit product

  • This is one of the few metal pedals that sounds great. Most metal pedals are completely fuzzy and sound like shit

  • chass-iss?

  • When are you going to do a review for the Twin Tube Blue pedal?

  • Clean my ass, you can hear the reverb very clearly...

  • @sndgarden Surely 'clean' means no distortion i.e. 'not dirty' it has nothing to do with whether he has reverb on or not

  • @sndgarden you're an idiot

  • @gnrfanatic141414 No need to express your impressions by making me an idiot, lol. I just noticed that the sound is not entirely clean, and by clean i do not refer to distortion and clean.. in this kind of reviews the clean must be effectless in orfer for the possible buyer to decide if the item is really worth the price. For example I can take a crappy Behringer Distortion Modeler stompbox throw in some spring reverb and a slight amount of chorus and make it sound like a beast.

  • @sndgarden that would be called the dry signal

  • wow

  • needs more bottom end and mids

  • As soon as he turned the pedal on, I nearly came

  • let the bees out of the can.

  • that amp sounds like its hating life....

  • Love this Guitar <3

  • FUck u Sprite, get the hell off my youtube and keep ur filthy Ads on tv!

  • this guy is gay?

  • @marcaobage who cares if he's gay or not. he's still a person isn't he?

  • I don't want to be a hater or somethin' but that pedal isn't heavy metal man!!! If you get this shitty bright tone with a LP (mahogany wood), I don't want to imagine how will sound on mine (alder) :(

  • @sndgarden tottally agree! its very tinney sounding. but tubes are known for being bright and you know how the over produced sound is sweeping the guitar world i just miss jimmy page tones!

  • Paul...I love ya ur a great guitarist but.... when ur demonstrating Hi Gain settings maybe try something a little lower tunned. i suggest investing ina 7 sting, maybe an Agile, so you have ur standard and the low B string to demonstrate lower tunings. to tell you the truth people who are going to be viewing this review are probably looking to hear how it handles low tunings. (me included) but still good job anyway :D

  • lol @ attempts to play metal. Get someone who can actually play metal rhythm and lead.

  • hes probly in standard tunin, this pedal is made for dropped tunings

  • 4:46 hands off the guitar, Paul, and let's hear the pedal buzz...

  • is this pedal versatile enough that i can use it in a non-metal setting?

  • DUDE

    JUST START PLAYING!

  • sorry but that is the worst sounding pedal i ever heard. The 10$ Danelectro pedal has a better sound !! It can be the recordin gfrom guitarworld, but that pedal sound shit, fuzzy , whatever...

  • really good observation -timshreds731 -(what kind of amp are you using? what about the speaker? pickups??_ fuck**** true, what about your equipment because it makes sence to me.

  • same melodies..i wanna hear different music anymore...

  • I wanna know why he's running two preamps at once. Try running that thing through just the power section. That's where it shines.

  • did he just say chass ISSSS?

  • @muzichan haha yes he did. :/ this pedal sounded like total ass in this vid

  • Im curious what Blackout equiped guitar - Twin Mayhem - BOSS NS2 - Dual Rec. sounds like

  • what kind of amp are you using? what about the speaker? pickups??

  • really scooped o.O

  • @MayCryBlood666 true dat

  • paul is a serious badass

  • i wanna know what amp he is playing through....

  • can i play other genreas like punk and rock with this pedal or just metal?

  • Comment removed

  • i liked the bit where he played metal riffs

  • I'm selling one on ebay.

  • Paul, I'm sure you hate your job!!! :p

  • This pedal seems to be great. I wanted a metal distortion pedal with a gain boost, I got the Electro Harmonix Metal Muff because I was really short on cash, but when I'll start saving for a pro-level pedal, I'll probably look back to this one ^^.

  • sweet spot at 3:40, this thing rocks balls.

  • press f5 to skip ad

  • I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL MY TWIN TUBE COMES IN THE MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why is this guy in so many videos? his riffing is fucking pathetic. i've heard more creative stuff from AC/DC!

  • Run this pedal into a poweramp if you really want to make some use of it.

  • he looks like a peacock

  • any time somebody sees paul riario their first ipression is "HES GAY". But once they see his playing they shut up lol

  • @yungbubbabush Who cares if he's gay or straight? What he does in private is private; judge him by his playing, not his voice, look, etc.

  • @BucksStudent what i meant is people keep judging him by his looks

  • If only I live in the USA I can get this many gadgets specially Gibson,Marshall, but I still have a seymour duncan 57 hehehe well the 59 is much better.

  • what kind of amp are you playing through

  • Too fuzzy... it end sounding like the Boss MT2. To get a killer metal distortion tone you simply go to the store and get a fkn Mesa Boogie head. Pure tube madness!

  • sounds a little fuzzy for my tastes...

  • @mdnorm5150 in that context saying that he's not untalented makes more sense. he was saying that he expected more from him, if he just said that he was talented then he would just be paying him a compliment and not criticizing him.

  • now thats a fucking monster distortion pedal

  • GW, are the SFX-03 and SFX-011 really different than the Mayhem?

  • What's the point of making a tone demo when the micing is atrocious and disgusting?

  • You metal kids sure are agressive, and rude..

  • @GlennRudge Stereotypical thoughts are stereotypical

  • stop playing it in blues or rock riffs!!!!

we want metal with insane riffs!!

blues or any rock riffs wont do dat!

  • This guy's voice is hilarious and he pronounced chassis weird haha

  • you can't say from that vid that it sounds great :P

  • Might be useful with a LOT of EQ. Way too much high end. Of course the recording may be the culprit.

  • I have this pedal and i use it with a fender strat and the sound sucks (the gain wont even show, just heavy bass and low mid with cool metal tone), so i think this really depends on the guitar you're using and the amp you use. Or those of you who say this pedal sucks might wanna check out its interior whether or not you broke the tubes lol.

  • @Ectotherm why on earth would you use a fender strat for metal? the pickups arent meant for that high of gain.

  • @archenemy2242 hey ive got a fender HSS ifinity series strat that for some reason can get a better tone on a line 6 than a gibson or a BC Rich lol

  • @starsiegeRoks That's because a Line 6 is a modeling amp. It's designed to make all of your gear sound like completely different gear, by smashing things with compression and running them through digital synthesizers, essentially. This particular pedal is for people who enjoy more organic, analogue distortion that you just can't get with a strat and a Line 6.

  • shit...my headphones got fucked up LOL

  • hey im buying myself a new rig with a Peavey 6505+ 112 60 watt combo im saving for. I play a schecter c1 hellraiser with emg 81 an 85 in the neck. Should i get this pedal, a metal muff, boss metal zone, or an mxr fullbore metal, or a mxr Zakk Wylde Overdrive? I play classic rock up to Metallica and Van Halen and am trying to learn more heavey stuff.

  • Man, the problem with watching these gear demos is that after the sound is recorded, then uploaded, then played again through your computer's speakers, its gonna sound different than in person (obvious I know) It's worse with stompboxes since, if the guitar or amp being used is different from your own, its not gonna be representative of the pedals sound when placed in your rig. Plus, if the guy doing the demo is a noob and doesnt know how to set the EQ, then its gonna suck.

  • This pedal sounds like crap, I spent $230 for this pedal and its worth about $100. I have a ESP EC1000 with EMGs. Listen to this pedal in person before u buy dont make the same mistake i did. I ened up trading this in for a PODx3, way better tone.

  • This is a great pedal. There are other demo's on YouTube and this one really isn't the greatest because of the guitar he's using and those pickups. I wish he wouldn't have used the Eclipse he's used in his other demos. It had the EMG 81/60

combo or even a set of D-Activators would have sounded better also. If you're trying to demo something with a "metal" sound and you're using an LP with Gibson pups you should use Dirty Fingers or at the very least Burstbuckers. This is a good pedal though. :)

  • The only people who think this pedal sounds rubbish are the morons who know nothing about how to set the EQ section properly.... In the words of the great Skwisgar Skigelf, "Go homes, takes a shower, and wash the shames off a you, cos you suuuck!"

  • @thesouthafricanguy

I tried it and its one of worst dist pedals I have ever tried.

It also sound rubbish in this video. Sure not for metal.

  • @Woofspl I hate to imply this, but, maybe you just doin' it wrong?? Also, people get it into their minds that this is a distortion pedal. It isn't. There are no distortion circuits in it. It is a tube overdrive pedal. Anybody who has actually played a tube amp before will know how to use this pedal properly.

  • @thesouthafricanguy dethklok ftw

  • i ´m gonna post some clips on this one so ya can see this thing is not so hateable as many of you think

  • Its very thin sounding..hehe

  • I'm the 18,000th viewer of this vid :P

  • @Ectotherm really?iam #20456 so i guess that means i stomped your ass MUHAHAHAHA..its like being on 1...times 1859

  • those fucking pickups are so god damn bright i wish he didnt use that guitar

  • He's playing a gibson les paul DUHHH those pickups are never bright but rich in deep tone. its the pedal which is causing that shitty noise, take it from me i had it and its a piece of shit. It carries no distortion

  • i think this pedal is aimed towards more classic sabbath kind of tones... it would be perfect for a saviours (great band) type tone, sabbath on steroids... just not tight enough for modern stuff though...

  • My £30 Biyang chinese piece of crap sounds better than this.

  • muddy as fuck :/ i thought this thing would sound better coming from seymour duncan, but this just just sounds like total shit.

  • It sounds as bad as my Metalzone.

  • I also think it sounds light...

  • Cool pedal but "chassis" is pronounced "shassee" or even "chassy. Just sayin

  • shassee is right way ;) , jk but i was thinking the same

  • Should have used better pickups where did his other one go?

  • Haha since when are Gibson pickups bad? look at the pedal not the guitar last time a checked its the amp or pedal that creates fizz

  • wished he used emgs

  • Too scratching by his eq

  • this pedel would sound at least 10 times better if he used emgs.

  • They claim that this a different than every other "metal" pedal, but i just dont see it. Its got tubes in it but still sounds light...just my opinion

  • this sounds disgusting

  • Woo, I'm getting this for Christmas.

  • @matt22mccarthy Me too!

  • Me too!

  • @blackchidori34:

i dont think so, because of the marshall mg. it is a very poor amp

  • mmmm, i'll have a twin tube mayhem with a side of chassiss.

  • man this thing kicks ASS!

  • so this would be a good pedal with my marshall mg30? i also have a epiphone futura wit emgs. would it sound ok?

  • What is the amp, exactly? >>;

  • one thing i hate about this guys demos is that he never tells u his amp settings

  • all the settings are probably at 12 o clock i would think

  • naa.... most set mid at mid and bass and treble max

  • i hear ya, at least the guy for proguitarshops tells you he's using a $1200 amp

  • would this havw any difference on a peavey 15 watt amp

  • Well you would be running this tube pedal into an amp with no tubes and probably a crappy speaker. So it more than likely want sound as thick or well rounded. Imo.

  • this pedal was meant to be for metal but ist for rock

  • any one played on this pedal how does it sound.oh and what about that damage control solid metal pedal.

  • i havn't played the mayhem pedal but my damage control solid metal pedal has similar tones and i can experiment with different tubes...

  • hey guys what would be better this pedal or the Metal Muff with top boost.

  • depends on your amp, if you have a tube amp get the MM..if you use a solid state amp the sfx-04 or the damage control solid metal pedal would be a good choice...

  • YUK!

  • absolutely, and the amp can really get just about any sound you could ever want. its just figuring the damn thing out thats a real bitch lol

  • i think line 6 has the best digital distortion out there...its just tricky sometimes to find the sweet spot. so it gets alot of flack from people. read the instruction manual guys, one some of the models the "mid" knob doesnt effect the mids like an eq at all. after i read that it was much easier to get a good sound.

  • This guy told me that this pedal with an before the Twin Tube Mayhem MXR M-109(something like that) can achieve a Suffocation tone from their debut album Human Waste.

But this pedal does sound a bit fuzzy, so consider that.

And the pathetic thing is that, really no companies out there make "distortion" distortion pedals out there, a bunch of them just sound weak.

  • Oh you should check the Damage Control - Solid Metal ,& the Demonizer (if you find them) and the Carl Martin plexitone. Not that "made in china" kind of junk stomp boxes pedalboards...ect.ect.

    Cheers !

  • I have heard of those two pedals, and I know how they sound.

They are good pedals, but they just don't have that booming bass that I am looking for, or cut mids.

And they have good distortion for what they do, but not enough for my taste.

  • I understand , with the Damage controls cause all you do is hyper-amplify the signal , try driving the solid metal with a liquid blues or even a womanizer... As for booming bass , you should really check your amp -cabinet for that and play high volumes. Engl cabs have tight mids and bass.If you hear any guitar that's done on record in real,*whithout the bass support) it sounds much weaker than with a bass escort...that's why there are many instruments in a band.

  • Sounds too Fizzy! not enough beef low end!

  • i would look for a used line 6 spider valve combo (great amp!) or a used peavey xxx combo(also great, but less versatility)

  • absolutely, too many choices almost! 7 strings are good for more than just metal, though they do excel at metal. since it has so much bass response, you gotta be careful how you set it up sound wise, personally i think they sound best if you scoop some of the mids out, turn the bass down just a bit, and experiment with the highs. speaker choice is important. i think hughes n kettner made an amp especially for detuned guitars, might check it out

  • may sound crazy, but go solid state. line 6, crate, marshall, randall...all make great amps with tons of gain.

  • he shud have dun machine head type of metal to really show how this works on the genre of music it is designed for

  • i really like this pedal this guy just fucked it up by not playing metal but what ever and if you looking for a abd ass of the wall distortion pedal check out the T-Rex bloody marry there hard to find and less expensive but they kick major ass

  • duz this work on valve amps like marshall jcm?

  • But can you use it on a tube amp or is it only meant for solid-state amps?

  • You can use it on tube and solid state as far as iv been told

  • Trying to like this pedal...all tube, Seymore Duncan...but it sounds like a blown speaker to me.

  • THis guy isnt playing the right type of music with this pedal... he needs to demo palm mutes and thrash riffs but, instead he's running classic rock riffs. WFT?

  • i agree i was like no wonder ppl are rollin in on the comments like "wtf too fuzzy" cuz hes letting it all ring classic rock style. he'd even blues it up a bit in the solos .. sum1 play this guy some metal.

  • since these use twin tubes, can it still be used with a solid state combo?

  • Yup, is made to give you a genuine tube distortion.

  • yepp, it sounds quite gd though a solid state amp on clean

  • yea metal zones sound fuzzy to me, not just scooped but fuzzy

  • Paul, please either mic the amps and effects you use, to make them not sound soooo artificial and horrible, or stop doing these. You make everything sound bad and you are not untlaented.

  • It means what it says... He's not untalented, meaning he has talent. I didn't know double negatives were so complex. And so what if I was drinking. I am now too. LOL

  • @jimmyjames77 Try using better speakers than your PC speakers...that and i don't see you getting paid to do reviews.

  • @Archermahly I see your point but I've seen reviews on and played more than my share of gear and I know what it should sound like... I feel my point stands.

  • Hard to tell how much of the distortion is from the pedal, and how much is from an overloaded mic.

  • someone please punch this guy and put a real metalhead in there to show how fucking awesome this pedal is...

  • haha, the way he said chasis is funny. he also says abalone funny. i like these videos tho

  • hey, would you guys recommend this pedal or thr boss metal zone pedal. dont care about the price just want to know which is better

  • dude it's like asking what's better, a Honda civic or a Porche Cayman (google the car models if you don't know them)

...oh and the mayhem would be the Porche :) Happy shredding

  • thanks : ) happy shredding to you to

  • I'm sick of seeing this question on every guitar pedal review, no matter what the peddle, no matter where you go. Try asking about the Boss Metal Zone in a vid featuring the peddle.

  • WOULD A BOSS PEDAL I GOT IN MY FENDER STARTER KIT BE AS GOOD AS THIS?!?!

    (joking)

  • I have the BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone,go check one out,it sounds super wicked also, try the Metal Core then, try out Twin Tube Mayhem, lastly, see wihich one fits you.

  • O shit, you must be deaf

The MT-2 and the ML-2 are garbage

    Omg......

  • Well,it works well for me but apparently, not for you

  • sounds like shit in this demo. Sounds much better through other demos...

  • watching this vid makes me want to go and buy a marshall, this pedal, and a lp and play till i get the cops called on me. i love this pedal.

  • judging by how bad ass this pedal is...itd only take an hour..

  • yea

  • Awesome demo!

  • 227 about

  • I have this. I fuckin love it. I use mine with a noise gate though. Specially when using it with ibanez thats got x2n on it. Its br00talz!

  • amazing pedal, how much would one cost?

  • what the fuck is a chassiS?

You mean I'll have to replace the tubes AFTER I DIE? SHIT! That chassis looks IMPOSSIBLE to open...

  • I know, right? ChassiS? I believe it's pronounced Chass-EE... This guy is likely overpaid...

  • LOL

Yeah, that was a bit retarded. I usually back this guy up pretty good w/ comments on his video's but that was a blond moment or something...

Trying to decide between this and the MXR DD-11 Dime tribute pedal... The MXR is cheaper, but if this overpowers that, then the extra $100 is worth it. I eventually will get a Krankenstein, but until I can fork out the $2700 for the cab and head, a pedal will just have to do...

  • Chassi is the "skeleton" or the body,

its also slang for a physically attractive woman

  • Chasis has alternate pronounciations.

  • Yeah. Chas-ee or Shas-ee, but not chas-iss

  • mesa boogie v2

  • electro harmonix metal muff is awesome if you are into death metal type music

  • I want to hear him play every product with an RC 7 or a real metal guitar guibson has no edge

  • OK for having two tubes, $200 aint bad. And just to add, that pedal is fucking huge! It's almost as big as Paul's head!

  • Good pedal but definitely not worth 200-250. Maybe 100 I'd get it. But at 200, nah.

  • many of you seem to not like this pedal... which distortion beats this one hands down then?

honestly i would like to have this for my bedroom :P
