Damn, this vid had me reaching to see where my treble control was at on my PC speakers. Is it really this ice-picky? They should have named this pedal "EarsB.bleedin". Sorry, I don't get it. I expected some bottom end with it.
@gnrfanatic141414 No need to express your impressions by making me an idiot, lol. I just noticed that the sound is not entirely clean, and by clean i do not refer to distortion and clean.. in this kind of reviews the clean must be effectless in orfer for the possible buyer to decide if the item is really worth the price. For example I can take a crappy Behringer Distortion Modeler stompbox throw in some spring reverb and a slight amount of chorus and make it sound like a beast.
I don't want to be a hater or somethin' but that pedal isn't heavy metal man!!! If you get this shitty bright tone with a LP (mahogany wood), I don't want to imagine how will sound on mine (alder) :(
@sndgarden tottally agree! its very tinney sounding. but tubes are known for being bright and you know how the over produced sound is sweeping the guitar world i just miss jimmy page tones!
Paul...I love ya ur a great guitarist but.... when ur demonstrating Hi Gain settings maybe try something a little lower tunned. i suggest investing ina 7 sting, maybe an Agile, so you have ur standard and the low B string to demonstrate lower tunings. to tell you the truth people who are going to be viewing this review are probably looking to hear how it handles low tunings. (me included) but still good job anyway :D
sorry but that is the worst sounding pedal i ever heard. The 10$ Danelectro pedal has a better sound !! It can be the recordin gfrom guitarworld, but that pedal sound shit, fuzzy , whatever...
really good observation -timshreds731 -(what kind of amp are you using? what about the speaker? pickups??_ fuck**** true, what about your equipment because it makes sence to me.
This pedal seems to be great. I wanted a metal distortion pedal with a gain boost, I got the Electro Harmonix Metal Muff because I was really short on cash, but when I'll start saving for a pro-level pedal, I'll probably look back to this one ^^.
If only I live in the USA I can get this many gadgets specially Gibson,Marshall, but I still have a seymour duncan 57 hehehe well the 59 is much better.
Too fuzzy... it end sounding like the Boss MT2. To get a killer metal distortion tone you simply go to the store and get a fkn Mesa Boogie head. Pure tube madness!
@mdnorm5150 in that context saying that he's not untalented makes more sense. he was saying that he expected more from him, if he just said that he was talented then he would just be paying him a compliment and not criticizing him.
I have this pedal and i use it with a fender strat and the sound sucks (the gain wont even show, just heavy bass and low mid with cool metal tone), so i think this really depends on the guitar you're using and the amp you use. Or those of you who say this pedal sucks might wanna check out its interior whether or not you broke the tubes lol.
@starsiegeRoks That's because a Line 6 is a modeling amp. It's designed to make all of your gear sound like completely different gear, by smashing things with compression and running them through digital synthesizers, essentially. This particular pedal is for people who enjoy more organic, analogue distortion that you just can't get with a strat and a Line 6.
hey im buying myself a new rig with a Peavey 6505+ 112 60 watt combo im saving for. I play a schecter c1 hellraiser with emg 81 an 85 in the neck. Should i get this pedal, a metal muff, boss metal zone, or an mxr fullbore metal, or a mxr Zakk Wylde Overdrive? I play classic rock up to Metallica and Van Halen and am trying to learn more heavey stuff.
Man, the problem with watching these gear demos is that after the sound is recorded, then uploaded, then played again through your computer's speakers, its gonna sound different than in person (obvious I know) It's worse with stompboxes since, if the guitar or amp being used is different from your own, its not gonna be representative of the pedals sound when placed in your rig. Plus, if the guy doing the demo is a noob and doesnt know how to set the EQ, then its gonna suck.
This pedal sounds like crap, I spent $230 for this pedal and its worth about $100. I have a ESP EC1000 with EMGs. Listen to this pedal in person before u buy dont make the same mistake i did. I ened up trading this in for a PODx3, way better tone.
This is a great pedal. There are other demo's on YouTube and this one really isn't the greatest because of the guitar he's using and those pickups. I wish he wouldn't have used the Eclipse he's used in his other demos. It had the EMG 81/60
combo or even a set of D-Activators would have sounded better also. If you're trying to demo something with a "metal" sound and you're using an LP with Gibson pups you should use Dirty Fingers or at the very least Burstbuckers. This is a good pedal though. :)
The only people who think this pedal sounds rubbish are the morons who know nothing about how to set the EQ section properly.... In the words of the great Skwisgar Skigelf, "Go homes, takes a shower, and wash the shames off a you, cos you suuuck!"
@Woofspl I hate to imply this, but, maybe you just doin' it wrong?? Also, people get it into their minds that this is a distortion pedal. It isn't. There are no distortion circuits in it. It is a tube overdrive pedal. Anybody who has actually played a tube amp before will know how to use this pedal properly.
He's playing a gibson les paul DUHHH those pickups are never bright but rich in deep tone. its the pedal which is causing that shitty noise, take it from me i had it and its a piece of shit. It carries no distortion
i think this pedal is aimed towards more classic sabbath kind of tones... it would be perfect for a saviours (great band) type tone, sabbath on steroids... just not tight enough for modern stuff though...
Well you would be running this tube pedal into an amp with no tubes and probably a crappy speaker. So it more than likely want sound as thick or well rounded. Imo.
depends on your amp, if you have a tube amp get the MM..if you use a solid state amp the sfx-04 or the damage control solid metal pedal would be a good choice...
i think line 6 has the best digital distortion out there...its just tricky sometimes to find the sweet spot. so it gets alot of flack from people. read the instruction manual guys, one some of the models the "mid" knob doesnt effect the mids like an eq at all. after i read that it was much easier to get a good sound.
This guy told me that this pedal with an before the Twin Tube Mayhem MXR M-109(something like that) can achieve a Suffocation tone from their debut album Human Waste.

I understand , with the Damage controls cause all you do is hyper-amplify the signal , try driving the solid metal with a liquid blues or even a womanizer... As for booming bass , you should really check your amp -cabinet for that and play high volumes. Engl cabs have tight mids and bass.If you hear any guitar that's done on record in real,*whithout the bass support) it sounds much weaker than with a bass escort...that's why there are many instruments in a band.
absolutely, too many choices almost! 7 strings are good for more than just metal, though they do excel at metal. since it has so much bass response, you gotta be careful how you set it up sound wise, personally i think they sound best if you scoop some of the mids out, turn the bass down just a bit, and experiment with the highs. speaker choice is important. i think hughes n kettner made an amp especially for detuned guitars, might check it out
i really like this pedal this guy just fucked it up by not playing metal but what ever and if you looking for a abd ass of the wall distortion pedal check out the T-Rex bloody marry there hard to find and less expensive but they kick major ass
THis guy isnt playing the right type of music with this pedal... he needs to demo palm mutes and thrash riffs but, instead he's running classic rock riffs. WFT?
i agree i was like no wonder ppl are rollin in on the comments like "wtf too fuzzy" cuz hes letting it all ring classic rock style. he'd even blues it up a bit in the solos .. sum1 play this guy some metal.
Paul, please either mic the amps and effects you use, to make them not sound soooo artificial and horrible, or stop doing these. You make everything sound bad and you are not untlaented.
It means what it says... He's not untalented, meaning he has talent. I didn't know double negatives were so complex. And so what if I was drinking. I am now too. LOL
@Archermahly I see your point but I've seen reviews on and played more than my share of gear and I know what it should sound like... I feel my point stands.
I'm sick of seeing this question on every guitar pedal review, no matter what the peddle, no matter where you go. Try asking about the Boss Metal Zone in a vid featuring the peddle.
I have the BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone,go check one out,it sounds super wicked also, try the Metal Core then, try out Twin Tube Mayhem, lastly, see wihich one fits you.
Yeah, that was a bit retarded. I usually back this guy up pretty good w/ comments on his video's but that was a blond moment or something...
Trying to decide between this and the MXR DD-11 Dime tribute pedal... The MXR is cheaper, but if this overpowers that, then the extra $100 is worth it. I eventually will get a Krankenstein, but until I can fork out the $2700 for the cab and head, a pedal will just have to do...
This petal is good but this sounds trebely as hell. I'm wearing the earbuds that go in your head somewhat deep, and watching this was painful.

since these use twin tubes, can it still be used with a solid state combo?
archenemy2242 2 years ago
Yup, is made to give you a genuine tube distortion.
lawlz01 2 years ago
yepp, it sounds quite gd though a solid state amp on clean
AdrianSmithFan 2 years ago
yea metal zones sound fuzzy to me, not just scooped but fuzzy
sr1129 2 years ago
Paul, please either mic the amps and effects you use, to make them not sound soooo artificial and horrible, or stop doing these. You make everything sound bad and you are not untlaented.
jimmyjames77 2 years ago 7
It means what it says... He's not untalented, meaning he has talent. I didn't know double negatives were so complex. And so what if I was drinking. I am now too. LOL
jimmyjames77 1 year ago
@jimmyjames77 Try using better speakers than your PC speakers...that and i don't see you getting paid to do reviews.
Archermahly 1 year ago
@Archermahly I see your point but I've seen reviews on and played more than my share of gear and I know what it should sound like... I feel my point stands.
jimmyjames77 1 year ago
Hard to tell how much of the distortion is from the pedal, and how much is from an overloaded mic.
punkeratheart 2 years ago 3
someone please punch this guy and put a real metalhead in there to show how fucking awesome this pedal is...
dan2stories 2 years ago 4
haha, the way he said chasis is funny. he also says abalone funny. i like these videos tho

lastorma 2 years ago
dude it's like asking what's better, a Honda civic or a Porche Cayman (google the car models if you don't know them)
...oh and the mayhem would be the Porche :) Happy shredding

I'm sick of seeing this question on every guitar pedal review, no matter what the peddle, no matter where you go. Try asking about the Boss Metal Zone in a vid featuring the peddle.

WOULD A BOSS PEDAL I GOT IN MY FENDER STARTER KIT BE AS GOOD AS THIS?!?!
(joking)
dan2stories 2 years ago
I have the BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone,go check one out,it sounds super wicked also, try the Metal Core then, try out Twin Tube Mayhem, lastly, see wihich one fits you.
breakoutin248 2 years ago
O shit, you must be deaf
The MT-2 and the ML-2 are garbage
Omg......
LFRZ93 2 years ago 3
Well,it works well for me but apparently, not for you

amazing pedal, how much would one cost?
onewayfrontman 2 years ago
what the fuck is a chassiS?
You mean I'll have to replace the tubes AFTER I DIE? SHIT! That chassis looks IMPOSSIBLE to open...
ReverendNovember 2 years ago 2
I know, right? ChassiS? I believe it's pronounced Chass-EE... This guy is likely overpaid...
ct6mblack 2 years ago
LOL
Yeah, that was a bit retarded. I usually back this guy up pretty good w/ comments on his video's but that was a blond moment or something...
Trying to decide between this and the MXR DD-11 Dime tribute pedal... The MXR is cheaper, but if this overpowers that, then the extra $100 is worth it. I eventually will get a Krankenstein, but until I can fork out the $2700 for the cab and head, a pedal will just have to do...
christriot 2 years ago
Chassi is the "skeleton" or the body,
its also slang for a physically attractive woman
pinkythump 2 years ago
Chasis has alternate pronounciations.
kvltaholic 2 years ago
Yeah. Chas-ee or Shas-ee, but not chas-iss

I want to hear him play every product with an RC 7 or a real metal guitar guibson has no edge
BZG07 2 years ago
OK for having two tubes, $200 aint bad. And just to add, that pedal is fucking huge! It's almost as big as Paul's head!
Drycola23 2 years ago 2
Good pedal but definitely not worth 200-250. Maybe 100 I'd get it. But at 200, nah.
drrojogochu 2 years ago
many of you seem to not like this pedal... which distortion beats this one hands down then?
honestly i would like to have this for my bedroom :P
