@greenftj 'cept for the fact that this is a British band. AND, during the War of 1812, when the National Anthem was written, we were at war with Great Britain. Just sayin
Damn, I love that bass and all the instruments that break out into a chaotic fever! I think this song is about how fear can bring people together and yet, through this fear, chaos erupts and confusion and desperation hangs in the air. A nation controlled by fear; the perfect national anthem. :)
I want to live in the world where this is the official national anthem, and instead of putting your hand over your heart while listening you just spaz out like Thom Yorke does on stage.
@Zoso709 I don't care what it's about, it's called "the National Anthem" & it was a joke. You incorrectly corrected me & swore at me, learn some manners. You just screwed up because you assume everyone's from the United States.
@theotherbatman I'm not obligated to show manners to a stranger from a different country on the internet. Or a stranger on the internet in general. And you screwed up because you tried to make a joke that wasn't funny and completely idiotic. Hence the lack of likes / responses to your comment.
ahhhhh, since ive read the inspiration for this (i think the novel anthem) its changed my view on the lyrics! it is a great song: the bassline is so sexy and rough sounding and the drums have an amazing beat to it- not to mention eds lovely LA LA LAs at 1:57 ! plus at the end everything just goes insane... EVERYONE HAS GOT FEAR!
Probably gonna get flamed for this, but this is easily my least favorite Radiohead song. Still just can't get into it, even after a good 20 listens on Kid A. Meh.
ugghh i really wish i had never heard lupe's version of this, now i can't dissociate this song from lupe fiasco and everytning about him. i actually like lupe but i hate it when people sample songs that are relatively well-known. it just ruins it forever tbh, just like lupe did to float on. make it stop, be more creative in your sampling. gosh
@LadyofWar1980 it's well know to fans of radiohead, and there are alot of those. and i imagine a fair amount of radiohead fans may also be lupe fans. i know i am, which is why i wish i had never heard the lupe version of this. the same goes for show goes on, now if i ever hear the modest mouse original i can't help but to hear the inferior lupe version too.
guaranteed to get u pumped up, what a fucking bassline, makes me wanna beat the shit outta some communist motherfuckers. they should maybe play this on england footy playas ipods, rather than lady gaga or whatever that trannys called.
@greenftj I second that. Actually Francis Scott Key only wrote the lyrics to the US National Anthem, the tune was borrowed from an 18th century English drinking song, but yeah.

I still contend that Kid A was an inside joke/bet between the members of Radiohead.
"Hey guys, let's put out the shittiest album we possibly can & see if the mindless sheep we degrade in all our songs will still eat it up!!!"
Radiohead won their bet & continues to win it with each new album that has come after the admittedly transcendental OK Computer.
