I shoot top barrel first, what do you suggest then? I believe I have modified and light modified in there now. Not to sound dumb but when you say 1/4 you mean Light Mod and 1/2 Mod? I mainly shoot Wablble and Sporting clays so I want to make sure I put the right chokes in each barrel. Let me know what to do! Thanks!
@hailskins33 I mean 1/4 and 1/2, modified etc is the same thing, just the american name for it. mod is british 1/2, Light mod looks like it sits between 1/4 and 1/2 (1/4 being imp. cyl.) you'll do Ok there, but don't be afraid to go more open, 1/4 choke will kill clays out to a fair distance, Wobble trap- had to look that one up! we call it ATB or automatic ball trap, I'd go a bit tighter, 1/2 and 1/2 or 3/4 will do fine as the clay is getting away from you pretty quickly
@hailskins33 TBH the best thing is to stick with something that works for you not to go by what everyone else is doing. I shoot with a guy who carries 3 different shot sizes & changes his chokes seemingly every other stand. to my mind it's just getting a bit technical and at an intermediate level really makes no difference IMO. I just pick one set of choke restrictions and one cartridge, I buy 1000 of whatever is cheapest at the time- steering clear of the real crap and get on w. it
@hailskins33 It makes more sense to shoot bottom barrel first whenever possible, simply due to recoil. The lower bore axis shooting the bottom barrel first means that muzzle rise is reduced, compared to the top barrel. Simply enables faster recovery after the first shot, in comparison to top barrel first.
But of course, it depends on the targets and chokes you are using. Ideally though, bottom barrel first is the 'better' choice on recoil grounds.
What do you suggest for a top barrel and also a bottom barrel for a Beretta Silver Pigeon I to use for sporting clays??? Also, do you recommend extended chokes and if so which ones (Beretta Mobile Choke extended?)? Thanks!
@hailskins33 I just kepp 1/4 and 1/2 in there all the time, with 1/4 in the top, you could also do well with 1/4 and 1/4, I wouldn't bother with extended chokes, they may ease the constriction of the shot somewhat, but TBH i feel extended chokes are kinda like go faster stripes on a car, for some people they just tick the box, I bought a set of Briley standard length chokes for mine and they seem to be doing fine.....
I use extended chokes in my 687 SC (30" barrels mobil choke), Victory Light Modified which is equivalent to around a 3/8 choke (between 1/4 and 1/2). Ive just finished the pheasant season with Eley VIP 30gr 5's i didnt have a single runner, all clean single shot kills, Gamebore 28gr White Gold competition 7.5's for clays and 32gr Sovereign 6's for rough shooting - I dont change my chokes at all - just stick with these, about £50 each - money well spent IMO!
They should, check which chokes you have as Beretta have more than 1 flavour, theres the Mobil and Optima - and they are not interchangeable. If your unsure of what youve got, as Dane said - Check in a gunshop (or the manual).
@Burnz503 IMO buckshot is not good enough for deer, as people might betempted to use it outside of it's short effective range, being outside of my expertiese, I'd think that a slug, saboted or otherwise through a rifled shotgun barrel would be far more satisfactory
great video! very helpful. one thing tho. you said take out your choke and clean it, this is after you already cleaned your barrel correct. i was told its bad for your threads of your barrel to clean the barrel with the choke in it. i was told feed a brush in through the barrel till it is very clean, then i take out the choke and had clean my choke, and the threads of the barrel with swatches. i then apply oil to the threads of my choke and insert it back in. is that correct?
@cr123555 yup, barrel with choke in then barrel thread and choke. if you think about it, the pressure of the gas and the force of the shot passing the choke is massively more than it will ever experience with you running a brush through it, CLean the barrel with the choke in, take the choke out, clean the outside of he choke and threads/choke recess in the barrel, oil both parts and put the choke back in.
@hphockey22 depends on how far they are most people say not to use full because it can cause inconsistant patterns but i would sugest to get a custom choke like a patternmaster for shooting long range at ducks and geese
What do you do with pigeons and crows after you shoot them? You don't eat them do you? You actually have designated seasons for hunting these birds? It sounds strange to me because I'm American and I only kill for meat.
@matty0566 i do! Pigeons, and rabbits I eat squirrels I have eaten, they're just too fiddly, pheasants and waterfowl when I can get then go in the pot I don't eat things like magpies, or crows, rooks that sort of thing, there are seasons for gamebirds like pheasants, partridges etc, and also for waterfowl as well as Deer but for rabbits etc, what are classed as "vermin" species, there's no closed season- thech out the BASC (British Association for Shooting and Conservation) site for more info
great video, im just about to get my 1st gun, can you make a video on maintenance of your baretta and the difference between cartridges in laymens terms? great work, look forward to seeing more videos!
well first they're marked on the side of the choke in the american method of designating chokes, the second is that they have notches in the end of the chokes facing outwards. the more notches there are the more open the choke
I am a beginner and your vids are very helpful. Also I can understand your clear English accent, with out to keep on saying pardon me! as I have to here is ozz....5/5
You would make an excellent teacher with that patience and voice.

@jammiewagonwheel Will these work on a Silver Pigeon I?
hailskins33 4 weeks ago
@hailskins33 AFAIK they will, but ask in the gunshop before shooting! I think the SP1 comes with a set of multichokes anyway....
