I woke up to Slim singing When the Rain Tumbles Down in July almost every morning as a child growing up at Menindee on the Darling River. Radio station 2BH Broken Hill played Country music each morning and it was a great way to greet the day. I have been a fan of Slim Dusty all my life.
He reminds me of the Canadian singer Wilf Carter. In the U.S. he was known as Montana Slim. Their voices are similar and the songs tell a story. Good stuff!!
i grew up listening to slim dusty, best memories were traveling around out bush, windows down slim going on the tape player good memories that i will keep forever
i think i was bout 5 when he pastaway i cried for hours-days never knew the man but i wish i seen one of his concerts :( R.I.P. slim your a legend and always wil be!!!
I grew up with these songs, Slim, you and your beautiful family, are the greatest. Thank you to a true Aussie, a gentleman and wonderful story teller, You told my family's story, My Mum had the honour to hear you and Tex Morten and others in 'concert'. This was rolling up to a far outback country town, having everyone from the cattle stations (ranches) hundreds of miles around turn up, you sitting on the back of the truck and singing those peoples' lives, Rest in peace, with your work well done.
I find it amazing to think that there must be hundreds of reels of film of Slim and only a couple of songs have made it onto the net. Same with Reg Linsay. What a shame.
Always has been and always will be my favorite artist.Saw him and the travelling country band when thay used to tour outback QLD when i was growing up and they were always great.
Great performance, when Slim was at his peak. The amazing thing about this song is that it was the first he ever recorded, back in 1947, and it remains his best song ever.
Yep he even performed free sometimes in remote areas so Aboriginal people from extremely remote areas could hear him perform. Whos else does that? Who else goes to any part of this huge country?
im from nz and when i listen to this legend he reminds me of race horses, australia and farms! I LOVE AUSSIE MUSIC AND AUSSIE :)
