i feel like if i showed up for a jam session with JPR we'd jam for about an hour and then I'd just let him talk about stuff for the rest of the day, he seems like he would have loads of great stories to tell.
Can some here help me a little? Basically, I played to a decent standard around 6 years ago. Stopped playing completely for 6 years. Now I've started again nothing feels right. Everything feels wrong, shitty, clunky and downright fucking frustrating. Even the way I hold the pick feels shit and the way I strum and the way my fretting fingers move. Just everything fell fucking shit. Can Anbody help me progress from this?
I've been playing for 15 years and stopped twice for a long time. I know just what you mean! There's no easy way to get back the level you had before... But you will soon notice everything wil be built back way faster than the first time. Trust me. It will only take you a few months to recover years of practising. So keep on playing and frustration will be quickly fogotten.
@kenny222 - hi, dont fret as you are not alone - the guitar can for sure be a very frustrating instrument. Check out our full on video instructional website at next level guitar dot com - there is a free all access 3 day pass on the homepage so you can give the site a test drive - check out the master classes beginner 1-99 section to get started back on the guitar - its a complete structured guitar curriculum. Enjoy! -David T
@kenny222 I was in the exact same situation as you a while ago. I stopped playing totally for about 5 years and started up again, everthing sounded like crap. Still had the knowledge in my head but couldn't get it out on the guitar. The problem i was having was that i could remember what i could do but it didn't match what i was doing when i started again. Just keep going start with simple songs again and you'll get there
@kenny222 If its any help. The same happened to me, I gave up playing for years and when I came back nothing was right, very frustrating. I realised my fingers needed strengthening and my timing was out, I practised for a couple of hours a day, studied guitar technique with sites like Next Level and after a year I came back stronger. David T is always supportive and helps with useful comments. It takes time commitment and patience but you will get there.
@kenny222 I didn't play for two days over the weekend bc I was busy, it took me an hour to feel comfortable today. Last summer I went on vacation and didn't play for 10 days, it took me two weeks to get comfortable again when I got back. Six years is a long time, prolly just gonna have to put in the time to get back to where you were when you quit last time.
MMMMMMmmmmmmm sounds like Beatles & Zeppelin.

Great lesson!..... Kenny222 you could put xtra light strings on your guitar and maybe learn some new styles. That might help you.

the bad news: you cant expect to pick it up after 6 years and play like you did before
the good news: just start playing again (fun jamming + metronome practice), and your standard will come back in a few weeks!
