Saying that Wayland will be usefully available in Ubuntu 12.04 does not sound like something that would actually be said by a legitimate source, which, last I checked, was only Kristian Høgsberg. No, Mark Shuttleworth doesn't count until he actually puts some (more) people on the project.

@grendal742007 This is a common misconception about wayland. Unity (well, compiz, the window manager it uses), kwin, etc., will *be* the wayland display server / compositor.

@ikemkrueger At this point, it isn't.  As I said, it's very early in development.

Eventually, it should be good for reducing (cpu and memory) overhead, and smoother video in all applications you currently run under X. Without losing any network capability.
