When I was young (I will be 62 on Monday, so it was a long time ago), I was a singer, and I occasionally played shows with Mr. Felts. He also lived in a town near our farm, so I saw him regularly (when he was not touring). He was such a wonderful man -- kind, considerate, helpful, encouraging. He was a terrific talent, and especially great on stage. But, what I remember most about him was his kindness and generosity to a very young man he did not even really know. They are great memories.
@tuttt99 You think that's a bad dream--how about working at a bass-ackward country station in East Armpit, Missouri, and the station's greaseball owner and his wife are old friends of this "Singer"...so we had to play good ol' Narvel at least twice a daym despite the fact he hadn't had a hit in ten years...THAT'S a nightmare...
@gremashlo "Beginning to think I'm wasting time" yeah buddy compared to Dobie Gray's version you are. I love how they changed the line from "Your Rock and Roll" to "Your country song" because the rednecks still think rock and roll is "The Devil's Music" Heck don't tell them the original is sung by a black man because they'll be saying if you play it backwards it tells white girls to date black men! Can't have that!....lol
Narvel is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. You can't find a more sincere, or kind person than him. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to meet him...not once...but twice in my life...Just an incredible human being...
This is, by far, the best version of this song! Narvel Felts is my all-time favorite singer. I just wish he was still recording. I miss his music. Love you, Narvel!
I'd rate narvel felts an A plus for an original voice. He should be classed with the greats of early rock...Holly...Orbison...and Little richard. Just a unique, commercial voice!!
Dobie Gray released his version 1973 on the rock charts with Dobie's the original and the version by Narvel Felts was released in 1973 on the country charts, with Narvel's version a cover of Dobie's. Both great version & hits on both charts.
@dancingdjdj Actually, John Kurtz released the original in 1972. Dobie Gray released his version in early 1973, charting at #5 on Billboard, and Narvel Felts released his about six months later, charting at #8 on Billboard Country .

his and Dobie Grey's version are good and I'll admit this is my first time hearing this pop cover done by Narvel Felts.

Go, Narvel! I had the opportunity to see him live at the British NCO Club, AFCENT HQ, Brunssum, The Netherlands in 1977-what a performance! ! !
