  • Absolute class singer and i don't say that lightly.live in Ireland and this song and life turned her that way are played in our little country bar.

  • @4waybypass ...you have got to be kidding me!

  • Ricky is just amazing........ there's not many voices that sound so nice! I did listen to rocky standridge , he's got really nice voice, I really like his version of Trouble by Travis Tritt and also Don't close your eye's, it's worth hearing.

  • build me a statue of me

  • If you guy's wanna hear a great version of this song....go to (rocky standridge statue of a fool) here on youtube, this guy is great! He also sings Don't close your eyes and Unchained melody, he's awesome.

  • great song! many memories. I know Porter, Chrystal, George Linsey but I'm at a loss for the other country greats in the video can any one help?

  • @paule4427 BJ Thomas, Larry Gatlien(sp), Willie Nelson, Roddy McDowell, Joe Stampley, Lori Morgan, Lynn Anderson, Chet Akins, Roy Clark, Janie Fricke, T. Graham Browne, Alan Jackson, and actually it looks like Waylon Jennings, couldn't name the others. Sorry

  • I bet Gene Watson could go a good job with this song.

  • Brian Collins much, much better version.

  • i have to disagree the only two people that could sing like elvis ricky van shelton and conway twitty

  • He is great on this but he copied Jack Greene's arrangement and i don't rememeber Twitty doing this one

  • @1984axeman I agree with you for the most part, but there is a guy on here that sounds like Elvis and Twitty mixed. His name is (rocky standridge) here on youtube, You can tell he doesn't try hard it just comes out natural.

  • the only other singer that could sing like elvis

  • lord have mercy. me partio el cucharon este rick

  • Great song......Great singer ! ! ! !

  • i would love to see you come back and sing. you have an amazing voice.

  • Gives me the chills....

  • @valmikecal1 you should listen to (rocky standridge) here on youtube. he has a smooth sound, a mix between Elvis and Conway....believe me, it's true.

  • @homessondlover ...You have got to be kidding me!

  • @savalec11 no their not kidding you...lol this guy is great! I've heard all his music and i think he's fantastic. maybe he's just not ur cup of tea, have your heard some of the other songs being sung on you tube by non professionals, their no where near as good as he is.

  • One of the greatest country songs ever. Ricky was the best in his heyday.

  • I've always felt that Ricky has the purest country voice ever!

  • is he related to blake shelton in any way?

  • @69bubbil no

  • @69bubbil 16. Are you related to Ricky Van Shelton?

Ricky Van Shelton is my father. (laughs) No, I'm not related to him, but that is probably the number one question I get out on the road, and in interviews and stuff, if I am related to him. And I have never even met the guy.

  • I LOVE this song. JUDA59ful

  • I am trying to find out someone in this video and I cannot remember his name. He is 2 from the left of Ricky. I thought his last name was Mcdowell but cannot find anything. Can someone help me out Thanks

  • @TheLindak54 It is Ronnie McDowell. He sang Older Women make Beautiful Lovers

  • @TheLindak54 Second singer on the left is Gene Watson. Ronnie McDowell is not in this video.

  • Damn, I LOVE this!!!

  • was a favorite for my love in the 70s he died this summer i think of you always bobby mcgowan!! i remember when we would dance to this...

  • This was one of the greatest country singers of all time, he is missed, but, he is enjoying his farm in the country.

    "A STATUE OF A FOOL"

    GREAT SONG

  • wish rickys official vid for this song was still up . this is a fantastic version also and i remmeber watching this

  • absolutely fantastic voice..

  • julielu61 you are so very right. He did a great cover of this song. I can't remember who originally did it. However, Ricky did a helluva job.

  • This song was stolen from David Ruffin...he is the one that originally wrote this song

  • Does anyone agree that Blake Shelton looks a lot like Ricky Van Shelton?

  • This is a really good song and old. I am like a few others on here who love

the old country music. George Strait is not the King of Country. George Jones is.

GJ was named King before that guy was probably born.

Strait is good for sure-King NO! lol

  • Seen Ricky Van Shelton many times in concert, met him ;) one of the best country singers...and from my state of VIRGINIA..... just wish he hadn't given it up!!! What a voice!!!!

  • This is what you call REAL country music......Where did it go..??? Wish the "country" artist of today would be REAL country and not try to be "POP" artist...!!

  • I love his voice it has so much soul to it

  • I wished they would make a statue of a fool in love that would be me. I love someone so much been married to him for 23 years and he just doesn't treat me like he even cares much less loves.me I have stood by him for 27 all together. Will I ever find true love and happiness, Thanks for this song. Beautiful

  • another master

  • jullelu61. I agree. This also was a great era of singers who help define what country singing was and is!!! They have great teachers to teach 'em!!!

If you look around the seats, you got the greats of the past and the future seating

  • jullelu61. I agree. This also was a great era of singers who help define what country singing was and is!!! They have great teachers to teach 'em!!!

  • Lorrie is wearing Larry Gatlin's jacket, cold in the studio I guess.

  • fantastic song!

  • AGREE!! Always have enjoyed the music of Ricky!

  • He gave up on music to soon or I should say the enables gave him up. I'd rather know he has preserved his talent without falling to the bottom of the barrel. He will always remain One of the Best Country Music Singers beyond any doubt!

  • Love This SO Much!!!!

  • This song really fits what i feel.you see I walked out on aprecious woman that i only had in my life for one year. Peggy sue Berliner i am that fool the regrets i have will haunt me the rest of my life. Mike

  • love this song

  • i had to listen to ricky today... u c its my moms birthday and he was one of her favs... shes passed away and im celeabrating all alone down here.. so happy birthday mom from ricky and me..

  • Ricky has an incredibly beautiful singing voice, he's one of my very favorite singers of all time, of any genre. There's no telling how many hours I have spent listening to him. Thank you Ricky for sharing your gift with the world.

  • I am this fool.I wonder sometimes if the hurt ever go's away

  • Ricky reminds me alot of Conway Twitty (singing style that is..I think Ricky has a better voice).

  • If anyone remembers Dallas back in the 80's, there one the rich tycoon named J R

Ewing (spg). At the very end of this song, the expression on Ricky's face looks like

J R. I miss you Ricky and I miss Dallas.

  • I was singing "trying" to sing it earlier today. But that's impossible. This song is pure magic. Ricky Van Shelton is one of the greatest singers ever. Anybody see him when he was on baywatch, lol. Anyway, if I could sing like him, I would sing every single conversation I ever have. In country music his ability in my opinion is right up there with conway twitty, george jones, clay walker etc. George Strait and alan jackson are fun but this guy is amazing. Though Dwight Yokam's the total package.

  • excellent, his voice is amazing

  • WHAT happen to this beautiful man & voice?? He set many many hearts on fire!!! Love & Miss Him!!!!! Come back Ricky!!!!

  • His voice is magic

  • what a wonderful video

  • The best rendition ever of Statue of a Fool. And What an original voice, no one as touched in the last few decades. Ricky I know you retired from touring but Heck I miss that voice. Notice how other Country singers around him open their mouths and think (Where does he get it from) I can't compare Ricky with any other Country singet he sounds like himself and that voice is so smooth and with depth.

  • Ricky needs a big award singing this song

  • What a voice! He's just wonderful. I've been a fan since 1987. He's fortunate to have his wife, Bettye, who prayed a straying husband back home and back to God.

  • One of the best voices ever! I remember when he was songing this on the Opry as the credits were rolling & the network cut to commercials before he finished! They must've gotten a lot of complaints cause he had to come back like a week or two later & do it again!

  • I listen to this while driving out fishing with the oldman and even out in the boat with the portable CD player!!!!

  • danm right!

  • I kniw George Strait is the king of country, but Ricky Van Shelton should run a very close 2nd!!!!!!!!! Anyone agree???/

  • @julielu61 unfortunately Ricky retired from country music and now sings gospel and writes children's books

  • @julielu61 I would put Ricky Van Shelton right on up there to No. 1.

  • George Strait is not the King of Country -It is a George alright but not Strait. Strait is good-no doubt.

George Jones is the King. Has been a long long time. He was king before you were born most likely. lol

  • HE IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES! HE HAS A ONE OF A KIND VOICE! I MISS THIS KIND OF COUNTRY MUSIC! THIS IS REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!

  • who is his his wife. is she a singer also..thanks

  • All his songs R THE BEST and Jean Wilson (my boss) SENDS A HELLO TO HIM

  • great voice rvc . keep it up

  • This man is really special. His wife is amazing too.

I played his C D in Thailand & about 100 people gathered to listen even though they didnt understand the words they loved the sound.

  • unbelievable voice...what a gift you were given!

  • Ricky has outdone himself. He is amazing!

  • Boooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sandora2cute1 ROFL !!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA TOO FUNNY XD

  • Anyone who can sing like that sitting down has an overload of talent.

  • @ExZonie i do hope youve been checking out the other songs from theese amazing artists. best ever

  • There's a statue right in the middle of my own home town! I've never thought of this before, very ironic indeed. lol

  • What a voice!

  • A great song that rings true every single day. What man can listen to it and not see his name on the statue?

  • One of the true greats that made music that will never die. Too bad he doesnt do concerts anymore but we stil have his songs & memories.

    Thank you Ricky

  • how can I communicate the strength of my desire to be in a small room with a singer as talented and as focused as he is here? I must have a death wish, or something, to want to be blown away so completely. what an an awesome experience to view his performance...many thanx to the poster, as my entertainment level is now over the top.

  • @Zulamayz check out Dwight Yoakam

  • You have put together a great channel. You've put a lot of work into it. Thanks for letting me have the pleasure of listening to all of their great talent.

  • I like this song , too nice to hear

  • I believe it's Larry Gatlin's jacket. He has it on for other songs.

  • brings back many memories

  • Jack Greene took this to #1 in 1969 RVS took this to #2 in 1989 i think this it's a Great rendition of a Classic and a Better tribute Ricky Van Shelton is still one of the greats.

  • What set of DVD's is this, i have no clue to what Year this is from, it must be from before 2003, since Waylon is in it, but what Year-Set it is, not a clue other then that

  • @GrandNagusRom I would agree with you as 2003 at the latest. Noticed Chet Atkins, and Porter Wagoner also and they have both since passed away. This could have been even in the late 90's or early 2000-2003.

  • Makes you want to jump out of your chair and yell,,, YA!

  • zero dislikes.

  • I knew George Lindsay. I was referring to the man on the other side of George Lindsay.

  • @mrjeda1994

That's Ronnie McDowell (not sure of my spelling)

  • For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the gentleman sitting 2nd to RVS right.... Please help with that. thanks

  • @mrjeda1994 That's George Lindsay, better known as Goober on the Andy Griffith show

  • @mrjeda1994 That's George Lindsay, better known as Goober on the Andy Griffith show, on his right is Ronnie McDowell

  • BJ THOMAS LOOKS LIKE HE HAS BEEN ROAD HARD AND PUT A WAY WET..IVE SEEN HIM LOOKING BETTER...1949SORFUL

  • HE WAS AND STILL IS THE BEST SINGER THERE IS. THE WORLD LOST ONE OF THE FINEST SINGER THERE IS. HE HAS THE PUREST VOICE AND EVERY NOTE IS RIGHT ON. MY BEST MEMORIES EVER IS GOING TO HERE HIM SING. MY DEAR RICKY, COME ON BACK, WE MISS YOU. WE DON't CARE WHAT YOU SING, JUST SING. DON'T CARE ABOUT THE SO CALLED MUSIC BUSINESS SAYS ABOUT YOU, CARE ABOUT YOUR FANS. WE KNOW HOW GOOD YOU ARE. IF THE GUY OUT THERE WHO WAS YOUR TOUR MANAGER READS THIS DO YOU REMEMBER THE BARBIE DOLLS. WELL ITS ME.

  • one great singer and Jack green also did a great voice on that song

  • What a sad song, Ricky Van Shelton can sing it too. Korey, sorry you felt this way, I'll always love you

  • Awesome song!!!!! LOVED the part with Lorrie, Porter, and larry doing the ahahahaha with their voices!!!!

  • i wonder ... who's Jacket Lorrie Morgan is wearing :)

  • @GrandNagusRom

The jacket belongs to Larry Gatlin

  • @NotGeneWatsonSongs I am glad it isnt Rickys..cuz I can see myself with that on.!

  • @NotGeneWatsonSongs Keith whitleys jacket

  • A mighty fine song , but Ricky can sing anything.

  • lip sync you say.... I suppose the band weren't actually playing either. I was there. They had some back up singers doing harmony for the quality of the show. Ricky was singing - maybe he named the song after you...

  • I WISH HE WOULD COME OUT OF RETIREMENT .....HAS ANYBODY SEEM ANY WHERE SINGING?WHAT A TALENT!!!!!!!! 1949SORFUL

  • THIS IS WHAT COUNTRY IS ALL ABOUT....GREAT...DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS WHAT A VOICE......1949sorful

  • Ricky sure held on to that last note, It had to e hard singing that song sitting down,,,,excellent performas,,,5*s

  • thanks sorful, he was also on hee-ha for along time.

  • @holdem200 you are a freaking idiot ricky damn well was singing that song live and if you ever heard the album you would know it was not the same as th elive you idiot

  • @holdem200 Just read your comment and it floored me. Or you really that stupid or are you pulling everyone' s leg?

  • Great concert...however, they are not really singing. They are lip singing. The others are laughing their butts off when one of them has to pretend to hit a high note, lol. They pretend to give each other back-up, lol. In reality all those old guys can't even sing like that anymore, especially when out of a studio, lol. Great Lip singing though, lol.

  • @ayamore Ricky Van Shelton is truly singing this song and giving it his best. None greater than he.

  • Thats bull ----t

  • The guy next to Ricky is the actor George Lindsey who played Goober on the Andy Griffith Show in the 1970's.....1949sorful

  • who is the guy setting next to ricky?

  • who is the guy setting next to ricky?

  • who is the guy next to Ricky?

  • Man!! He knocked that one out of the ballpark!!!! Fantastic!!!

  • I love this song so much..And my gosh..how good lookin can one man be! Would like a private audience please!!!

  • this was recorded live on the stage of the ryman for a show hosted by Ralph emery.Ricky sang live with the band and the BG's or background vocals were added in post productions. I know this because I was there. I spent ten years with Ricky as his tour manager from 92 until 02. He was and is one of the best singers of any music in our business!

  • @tourmanager54 Ricky had and has one of the truly great voices in country music and nothing ever showcased it better than this song. I've listened to it a thousand times and never tire of it. It is a damned shame the way the music business wrings a few dollars out of someone and then casts them aside in their prime for the "next big thing." And sad that time marches on...for all of us. Some things deserve immortality.

  • Ricky Van Shelton is what country should still be....what a voice!

  • No one can do it like Ricky Van Shelton...I miss him in country music..what a voice!!

  • To someone who questioned where the backup singers are coming from....

Many of the great singers here are holding mikes, [this can be seen in other clips of this concert] and they are very capable of providing the backup vocals on this song.

  • Wow he belt out the emotion without standing up very well.

  • Awesome I have Loved this song forever. Hugs thanks for the video and for posting these types of round seat songs. GOD BLESS THE USA. HUGS Bobbie

  • The man is good .....come out of retirement and show people what good country music is about, just don't get any better than this....sor1949

  • One of my favorite artists, one of his best songs, but I'm not crazy about the lip-synching. I've watched this thirty times. The band seems live, the vocals are very, very close, but where the heck are the backing vocals coming from? Definitely not from the other artists, despite their occasional efforts. Very disappointing; it really cheapens what is an otherwise amazing gathering of talent.

  • @novemunusunus

There is no lip-synching on this, it is a live recording, all artists on this show are singing live. fact.

  • @GeneWatsonSongs Okay, I'd sure like to believe that, but someone is going to have to explain where the backing vocals are coming from. It's OBVIOUS they are not coming from the other artists on stage. Only a very few make any effort, they do not add up in number or gender for the vocals heard, and it's clear their efforts start and stop, all without any change to the background vocals.

  • @novemunusunus You can certainly have a 'live' performance w/ 'taped' (though it's not tape anymore) background vocals, instruments (though here they are live), stacked vocals of one's own tracks... all kinds of things, almost always there is something 'along' w/ the 'live'. (You see lots of that in this time of 'reunion' thing, a la the tremendous production of the Gaither 'homecomings' etc...)

  • What a beautiful performance of this song, sung by Rickey!!! 5*****

  • wow he is one of the very best siners EVERY

  • one of the best,, :)

  • My grandfather wrote this song Jan Crutchfield, this is cool to watch wasnt very old when this was a hit.

  • No one sings this song better than Rickey!

  • @jeannekay100 oh ya jack green did it the best but i must say i do like ricky doing it

  • THIS WAS WHEN COUNTRY WAS PEOPLE AND WHEN ENTERTAINERS SAID GOD BLESS YOU AT THE END OF A PERFORMANCE THEY WEREN'T TOO STONED AND FULL OF THEMSELVES.......THEY ACTUALLY KNEW WHO GOD WAS AND IS!!!!!

  • a great, great voice from a man who tried so hard to get the recognition he deserved. He has sung so many classics like "I;ll leave this world" and many others. His songs will always be there. Thanks for posting,

  • i wish i was there to watch this LIVE.

  • The Great Jack Greene Did the Original in 1966 or 67 Jack Won Every Country Award in 67

  • This is on a Ralph Emery show and Is not lip synced. Its for real.

  • @lindirig This is not lip synced.

  • David Ruffin(the former lead singer of the TEMPTATIONS)went solo in the 70's and he did this song on one of his albums...Does anybody know who did THE ORIGINAL????THANK YOU

  • @mattdaddyful Jack Greene.

  • @MJRookieRook thank you
