This was a very helpful tutorial - the part around 2:39, I recommend you say in the description that you mention the thing about the Visual C++ runtimes before you run the emulator. For beginners they may be following along with the tutorial - I was very confused at this point until I watched the rest of the video. Also, are the default control plugins for keyboard?

When I try to open the emulator using the "start" in the dropdown for Start, Reset alala. I keep getting 'unhandled exception while initing image reader plugin'

Any ideas? I'm running Windows Vista 32.

this was not helpfull for a newbie like me I lost you around 2:00 I downloaded the nulldc file and its a blank paper icon and you talking about bios like i know what is and so i look up bios for dreamcast then download it and i dont know what your doing or what im doing do i put the nulldc file in the bios file or what? and im not seeing the same icons as yours

@SundayVideoGames Well I'm sorry about that, you need a file unarchiver such as WinRAR or 7zip to unzip the "paper" icon. I have WinRAR so they shouw as "books" since WinRAR opens those type of files. I have a bios link in the description :)

Beautiful! Though I must ask, how do you deal with multi-region games? Do you have to keep dicking around with the bios files and swapping them constantly?

hey whats going on @spicmaster1 your tutorial helped alot and i have everything set and ready to go but everytime i try to start it i get the following message " unhandled exception while Initing image reader plugin by drkll raziel & GiGaHeRz [Aug 21 2011] plugin" have you ever seen this problem and if so what steps do i take to fix them thanks.

@dandyvollnogel well you probably installed VLC player and have the assosications set to .bin files. It doesn't matter as long as the files are in the data folder

@dandyvollnogel well seeing as nullDC is developed for Windows and is exactly the same for all (except the audio buffer size in the AICA settings). Stop being a complete and total idiot and try to follow along. /endrant

@djklink20009 I know they can be turned off, but I'd really rather not have to. I've been playing Jet Set Radio, and I think the shadows compliment the cel shading too well to disable, even if it means I have to deal with occasional artifacting.

Kinda wish I could figure out how to get Chankast to run at a normal speed since it might handle shadows better for me. It's always 2-3x too fast and I haven't found a working fix.

ill admit this emulator is alot better than the previous ones but some iso are not supported which were supported in previous versions . i also have an actual DC and plan on getting a VGA cable for it

@Toiletcoffee this release is really good and works with a xbox 360 controller but you just can't beat the real system with a VGA cable attached to it , and i hear now japan has SD card support

NullDC is the only Dreamcast emulator I can get to function properly, but the shadows are a bit buggy since the emulator has some issues with ATI cards. I've tried Chankast but it runs way too fast and I none of the fixes I've found online work.

Oh, got it. EVERYONE LISTEN UP. @spicmaster1 add this to your tutorial's description, this is really helpful. GUYS WITH WINDOWS 7: 1. type services.msc in your start menu. 2. click it and scroll down to "windows installer" 3. right click it and click stop, to stop it. 4. right click it again and hit start, to start it again. 5. type %temp% and in a blank space in the folder, right click and hit "properties." 6. Goto security and hit edit.., then add... 7. type in "everyone" (cont)

It's not working, I always hated the Dreamcast emulators cause they never worked for me and they are such a chore to setup. Why can't they just make them easier to setup, fuck this! I'm going back to downloading and playing my Dreamcast games on the real system. Great video man thanks for the upload, but this did not work for me.

@Spicmaster1 I downloaded everything in the video, followed the video setup step by step, but the emulator would not load when I click on it instead it gave me error saying the software is not supported by my system. I tried running it as the administrator and still no luck. I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, my GPU is a Nvidia 7300LE, 3.71 GB of RAM and I have a core duo processor. My system is not new but it can handle Emulators like PS1, N64, games like DOOM 3, and COD 4.

@NASIRUB1 do it mate just get a VGA cable for your dreamcast trying to play dc games on a pc is a head fuck , games that rely on the dreamcasts hardware or cdda just run like shit unless you have a super high beasty pc which usually costs like a grand or something

@djklink20009 Thanks man, I'm definitely going to get a VGA or HDMI converter cord or make one so I can hook it up to my HD monitor, because a CRT can't do this system justice. This system has some awesome games that I have not tried out yet and I don't have a CRT TV in my house so I can't play it.
