  • If the book was any good - he should have tried to sell it to me in 60 seconds.

  • Keep it simple. No shit, it's a sixty second pitch.

  • His book has already been pitched and published...fools. His just trying to help those are interested in selling their screenplays. It is a pretty competitive industry. Don't have a crack at movies in the modern age being of poor quality. Most of them do hit you emotionally, you just don't realise it and thats the beauty of it.

  • No, I reckon this guy makes very good points succinctly. I think these points are not only useful for (screen)writers, but also useful tips for us all in creating a personal "elevator pitch". Sounds like a dirty word, probably, but I reckon it's useful, if only for yourself to know who you are and what you offer to potential employers or clients.

  • Who hell sensored this video?? Since when is Archie Bunker a bad word? F*&*&@#!!

  • So why is this 3 minutes 19 seconds???

  • @IanMcMonagle1 because the title of the film is the title of his book.

  • why don't you sell that book in 60 secs?

  • man, a lot a hater comments on here. i think he has quite a few good points. although i def have to agree with not selling his book. although he hits on important points, he didn't sell me at all as a person to listen to about pitching. he doesn't seem like he gives a crap about what he is saying. very dull. that is not how i want my pitches to be! remake this!

  • I have a full, 90 minute screenplay, contemporary set. Easy to clothe, easy to feed, easy to cast, NO BIG CROWD SCENES, which cuts down on extras. At least 4 good, meaty roles in it. And it can be a hit w/out big Stars 2 pay. Though, it wouldn't hurt 2 cast one. It has no special effects and will not cost much to shoot. Please. thanks.

  • Why din't you sell your book in this movie in 60 seconds, now im not convinced

  • cheers you bearded genius hehe

  • Greatest video of all time!!!!!

  • I have a lecture by him on my i-pod. It's really good.

  • Ironically this presentation took 3mins19 seconds to tell you about a book teaching you "How to deliver a pitch in 60secs"

    : )

  • @ncacace Well not really, considering that it takes longer to teach someone a skill than it does for a pro to use that skill.

  • i used to go door to door selling windows, pitches is essentially the same shit regardless of what your trying to sell.

  • @GiantEnemyCrab63 Going door to door selling windows? Heh.

  • Hey!! This video is over 3 mintues long.. how can you show me how to sell my story in 60 seconds if it takes you over 3 minutes to sell yours? I'm just sayin....

  • my names michael hauge!!!!111

  • does anyoneelse notice he followed his own guidelines so youll buy his book? smart man

  • I just read a bad ass horror screenplay called Something In Return.

    Check it out:

    somethinginreturn.webs.com

    Super Scary!

  • HOLLYWOOD SCREENWRITER - the song

  • I love your vid! Good work. Check mine too on?? my channel.

  • And thus this is why most films coming off an assembly line today are terrible.

  • a BIG mainstream publisher or a film company doesn't give crap about your story or if it's any good or anything... only thing they care about is trying to be on the safe side - meaning making sure they will not loose money by publishing your stuff... That's basically all they care about and if you wanna sell ya story ya gotta convince them that investing in you isn't wasting money...

  • skeet

  • Even better: "So would you like me to send you a copy of the script, or should we sign the papers right here?"

  • i rofled.xD

  • "well that's it" walks away. lol

  • Writers also (need) a spelling coach.

  • Writers neen a good Psycologist. Their Psycologist needs a good Psycologist.

  • Learn how to spell "psychologist" and then you can offer advice to writers.

  • Perhaps this is why so many of the films made these days are pretty much the same.

    Don't panic kiddies - it's a joke.

But still - Hollywood has been telling crap for a while now. Do we really need a "Fast and Furious-9" ?

  • Hollywood has been telling crap since its beginning, and it's been telling superb stories...since its beginning. Ditto for the NYC publishing community.

There have been staggeringly moronic films since the Dawn of Hollywood, or have you never seen Mystery Science Theater 3000?

Now just consider those films that were even MORE putrid and never got preserved on celluloid or video.

As much as things change, things remain the same.

  • It's not just 'Hollywood' that is guilty of that.

New Jerk...er, New York does the same thing.

How many stories are there of the same Jewish guy growing up in the same neighborhood?

Shit, Woody Allen made a career of telling the same story 100 different ways.

As for crappy films and MST3K - Film is art and art is all subjective. One man's art is another man's monkey shit thrown at a canvas.

    Look at the Pixar films.

Same artwork, same film, different celeb voices but still the same old story.

  • lol, so right on about woody allen

  • @Fretslayer what you're saying isn't really true...the movie industry is hitting on all cylinders. They're raising ticket prices yet people are still coming in droves to see feature length films.

Now if your goal is to sit around reveling in your own self-importance, then maybe the book publishing industry is for you.

By the way, The Fast and the Furious made more money than you could ever ever hope to make in a thousand lifetimes.

  • @flizzleFlopper And your point is exactly what? That reading and writing books is stupid? That just because a thing makes lots of money that makes it important?

IF that is indeed, your point... and from here that is the only point can see (aside from your fallacious argument (i.e. ad hominem )) then I hate to break it to you but perhaps you should educate yourself a bit before shooting off your mouth.

    Better luck next time kiddo.

  • We need Fast and Furious in 3D!!

  • @Mixakoatlh The sick part is that I'll bet somebody has already pitched that idea!

    LOL!

  • @Fretslayer Yes we do need a F&F9.

  • your right man

  • I cut my screenwriting teeth on Michael Hauge's "Writings Screenplays That Sell" - he's great! He bottom lines it for you and I love his teaching style.

"So do you have any questions about my story, or would you like me to send you a copy?"
