I hate that I have hammer toes and Im really interested in getting them corrected.SO My question for you is there a Doctor In My neighborhood which is Hamilton NJ, That you would suggest me to go see and do this exact surgery that you did in this video,Seondly What is the recovery time period.Doe to work and everyday life activities would be effect with this procedure, and 3rd but lastly what the average cost of this procedure.
I've had hammer toe all my life and It's never given me any problems. I forget that I have hammer toe until I take my shoe's off. I played baseball as a teen for 2 yrs I can walk, run, and still play sport for long periods of time and I'm fine. The thing is I've decided to join the Navy and I know that MEPS looks for these things. I really want to serve my country and I fear that this slight deformity may hinder me from enlisting. What do you suggest I do?
@MrNell84 I joined the Army with Hammertoes on 8 toes and had no problems enlisting. The only thing that sucked was hiking with 60lbs of gear with boots on rubbing the top of my toes. It hurt like hell, but I still made it through. Just ask for bigger boots and wear extra socks and padding. good luck
I had this operation done when I was 11, and have had no problems since apart from cutting my nails which is difficult as the nails have curved down with the tip of the toe. But I cant move my toes at all really, they're pretty stiff, but it makes no difference to exercise/running etc.
Doc, great presentation while performing the procedure.! Can you please comment on pro\con of using "Trim-It" pin.? I am having Arthrodesis 2nd toe PIP due to Flexion issue Feb 4th 2010 and doc says he wants to use Trim-It pin. I am concerned of toe drift as you stated in your video. I don't know what HW is best to use.
Not only did we straighten this patient's toe and remove the 'bump' that was rubbing on his shoe, but it was slightly shortened so it would not hit the end of his shoe either.
Furthermore we placed a hidden pin in his toe so his big toe won't push it over and heal at an angle.
I have Claw toes on the middle three toes on both of my feet. I have had them as long as I can remember. I just turned 30 and I believe their started to cause foot fatique and stress on the balls of my feet. Is joint fusion the only option when corrected a claw toe deformity?
@MFASclinic, what is the recovery process for the person after the surgery? also, would a person be able to bend the two like they were able to before, or with the implant it won't allow the toe to bend anymore?
@encc007 The rob peter to pay paul issue with this surgery isthat a toe that does not bend is a toe that will not move to the right or left surgery. This complication is why the implant was born and well worth it. As for function, it will not change any activities, exercise, or evern playing sports. Recovery time is 12 weeks but may very from patient to patient.
There is a tourniquet on the ankle that is released after the procedure. Minimal to no blood loss.
