it was the bad guy (jackel) that burnd the inocent spider at the beginning of the film , at the end of the film it was the same scenario , but he lets the spider live, hence its the good guy (navy officer) - either that or the real terrosist (jackel has changed his ways)

The movie is great, but the scenarists made a big mistake. In Libya, Carlos`s girlfriend meets some French DST agents. For somenone who know something about intelligence agencies, the DST acts only in France. For foreign activities there is the DGSE. DST was merged with the Direction centrale des renseignements générauxis into a new domestic intelligence services: the Direction centrale du renseignement intérieur (French`s "FBI").

So Robert Ludlums Bourne trilogy was super-compressed into 3 short ilms of the same name and now those films have been even more compressed into just one film?

This is exactly like the bourne trilogy but it seems to be more based on the books than the Bourne films were.

The Bourne films were totally different from the books. There wasn't even a mention of Carlos in the first 2 films even though he's the central theme

3Solidus has a point: In Ludlums books is the character Jason Bourne some kind of a Carlos-imitator in order to find Carlos the Jackal himself and arrest him. This corresponds more with the plot of "The Assignment" than with the Bourne trilogy, although "The Assignment" does not base on Ludlums books and the main character isn't an amnesiac...

Incorrect. Carlos the Jackal became notorious after the shooting of two Parisian detectives and the OPEC raid in 1975. The Bourne Identity (the first of the trilogy) was written in 1980.

He doesn't look like "Carlos", but the story bases on Ilich Ramírez Sánchez' life. The rest is the fictional story of the hunt for "The Jackal" to arrest him.

It's not a high-class thriller, but the movie is it worth, if you like espionage-and-action playing in the eighties.
