it was the bad guy (jackel) that burnd the inocent spider at the beginning of the film , at the end of the film it was the same scenario , but he lets the spider live, hence its the good guy (navy officer) - either that or the real terrosist (jackel has changed his ways)
Another American propaganda. Faking history. This man fought for something he believed in freedom. Instead of making fake movies, I dare the Americans to make one movie about the Israeli occupation to palestine. Viva Carlos.
The movie is great, but the scenarists made a big mistake. In Libya, Carlos`s girlfriend meets some French DST agents. For somenone who know something about intelligence agencies, the DST acts only in France. For foreign activities there is the DGSE. DST was merged with the Direction centrale des renseignements générauxis into a new domestic intelligence services: the Direction centrale du renseignement intérieur (French`s "FBI").
Wasn't this also a book? Anyone know who the author is? I've been looking it up but can't find anything on it which is weird since i remember reading the book ages ago. Went to look it up and could only movie.
Israelis and Amercans accuse Carlos of being terrorist..Carlos wasnt the terrorist,he was FREEDOM FIGHTER...Just like CHE GUEVARA he fought for Palestine against the Israelis Zionists...
Oh yea of little knowledge. He WAS a terrorist who killed for money, got captured by the FRENCH of all people, and now rots away in a French prison. Che Guevara was Fidel Castros errand boy and puppet.
You're thinking of the fictional character from "Day of the Jackal". This movie is based on the real life terrorist Carlos, who picked up his nickname after a copy of "Day of the Jackal" was found in his belongings.
So Robert Ludlums Bourne trilogy was super-compressed into 3 short ilms of the same name and now those films have been even more compressed into just one film?
This is exactly like the bourne trilogy but it seems to be more based on the books than the Bourne films were.
The Bourne films were totally different from the books. There wasn't even a mention of Carlos in the first 2 films even though he's the central theme
3Solidus has a point: In Ludlums books is the character Jason Bourne some kind of a Carlos-imitator in order to find Carlos the Jackal himself and arrest him. This corresponds more with the plot of "The Assignment" than with the Bourne trilogy, although "The Assignment" does not base on Ludlums books and the main character isn't an amnesiac...
Incorrect. Carlos the Jackal became notorious after the shooting of two Parisian detectives and the OPEC raid in 1975. The Bourne Identity (the first of the trilogy) was written in 1980.
He doesn't look like "Carlos", but the story bases on Ilich Ramírez Sánchez' life. The rest is the fictional story of the hunt for "The Jackal" to arrest him.
It's not a high-class thriller, but the movie is it worth, if you like espionage-and-action playing in the eighties.
My favourite Movie of all time and so much uncredited !!!!

without a doubt the most underrated spy thriller ever
many scenes that were in this film are the best of their kind, and I make reference to the ambush in tripoli. It was simply perfect

The Assignment is definitely one of the best Action/Thrillers ever made - brilliant storyline and acting. God, I love the 90's.
Aidan Quinn was perfect!

Have you even seen the film? The Assignment is nothing like the Bourne trilogy. Seriously do your homework before you embarrass yourself further.

I have a bad feeling about this movie... And that actor doesn't even look like the Jackal...
Does this movie have anything to do with Ilich Ramírez Sánchez (b.1949), aka "Carlos, The Jackal"?
Is this movie worth?
