i think melismatic masterpiece is a perfect description of "lead the way" probably her best vocal performance to date. everything i love about mariah's voice is in that song ^_^

@ablackguy123456789 well said :) Agree'd. recently i keep listening to the climax of My Saving Grace (riiight up on my headphones) and theres so many great 'melismic moments' and you can just hear the emotion in each upper belts.. Never heard that before.

@Dam112 yes my saving grace is another favorite of mine! she sounds so emotional in that song! i once saw a someone shade mariah saying she could never tackle a gospel song & i directed them straight to msg & they were eating their words lol

@RomuloVideos2 I didnt really do it intentionally.. I do like Mariahs well known melismas, like VOL is iconic almost but its not nearly in my top favs from her. LOve her subtler quick melismas & phrases that are choka full of riffs like in MSG, ATYNAF, Outside

@RomuloVideos2 oh i do like them - i just love alot more lol.. Forever trumps VOL imo but Yeah there isnt a singer around that has her melismic style and cretaivity. Christina, Jessie J, Beyonce all are great and the latter two are very quick/agile but I personally have only heard one pop singer who i personally think has that ''another leverl'' colloratura ability and thats Debelah Morgan

Well Bey is a superb riffer and can execute very quick runs, so i do see why people 'want' to put her on Mariahs melismic level, but I think thats mainly her fans - on an unbiased field (and i really respect bey as an amazing vocalist) she falls short -just-

@Dam112 Beyoncé not only falls short, in my opinion. She overdo it. She doesn't have the same musicianship and sense of rhythm that Mariah does. She doesn't express herself as much as good as Mariah does in her inflactions. Bey's vocal runs is more of a "show off". I do respect Beyoncé, but I got so angry when someone put her on ariah's level. >:( This is just me though (nothing against to Bey).

@RomuloVideos2 She doesn't fall short at all. Her runs now are sheer musical brilliance; she has improved drastically musicianship-wise.

Her staccato vocalizations in "I Care" are just one of the main proofs of it.

@Stefano94x Mariah is still better. And as long as Beyoncé doesn't have the taste and musicianship Mariah does in her vocal runs, she's not relevant to me. Even Whitney Houston who's more defined have better usage of vocal runs.

@RomuloVideos2 actually thinking about it, and listening to '4' I have to say Beyonce is not the melismic amateur or over riffing show off she ones was. Her skills are almost unmatched by anyone today and her melodic/lyric/musical connection to all her runs are very impressive... maybe she doesnt fall short, she has grown more as a musician than I really thought.

@Dam112 Exactly. Debelah is the only peer of Mariah when it comes to whistle register. Both have excellent coloratura abilities, both are great musicians with it, and both are technically flawless up there. Not to mention Debelah has the BEST enunciation up there.

- Minnie, Chante and Betty have the technique but not the same coloratura skills;

- Shanice and Rachelle lack both things.

I LOVE "anytime you ned a friend" the stringapella version . Thanks for including it! And whenever you call has so many melismas/acrobatics . All her songs are "showstoppers"
