what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
@thebearsareafterme well, i played marimba for 2 years, tenor drum for a year, clarinet for 2 years, then clarinet + bassoon for a year. I was trying to get drum major so was trying to do a little bit of everything, but i wound up getting beat by the best drum major our school had in the 10 years i had followed the band.
@thekevster08 thanks for replying. great speech btw. You're definitely right about band taking an immense amount of time and effort. But in the end, the ecstatic feeling that comes over you while playing on the field makes everything worthwhile.
@mythic414 Instead of worrying about length initially, just type/write to your hearts content. The key thing is to make sure that your speech is about something that you want to talk about. After typing it, time it, edit it, time it, edit it, and continue till you feel that it is complete.
I'm a freshman and this is my first year on the decathlon team. I was really inspired by your performance, now knowing that it's possible as a first year. How did you do on the impromptus, I suck at that. Any tips?
For impromptus their gonna give you a flashcard to write down some notes before you give your speech. I suggest you learn how to make quick 3 point outlines and how to expound on your ideas. As for me, I try to put pauses at appropriate places and try to remember movie quotes.
its really not that hard. I'm actually a pretty shy person, I just practiced it enough to know it backwards and forwards. The hardest part is writing a speech about something that you are actually passionate about. After that, delivering it is easy!
And that was my first year too. You'll do fine if you just set your mind to it.
nice....i really dont know how they determine your medal....but my coach says it has something to do with the difficulty of your room...whatever that means....ive heard of people getting 990 and getting silver while another person got 942 but still received a gold medal
wtf DAVID?! why the hell are you watching this video?! randomest guy ever. and yeah, don't criticize his speech...he worked freaking hard to get that gold medal.
I was just at state competition. A kid from our county had this hillarious speach on whether it was cheaper to be a man or a woman. He got a 1000 at county, but no medal at state. The stupid judges were so bad. Nearly everyone on our team inexplicably lost 100's of points on their subjectives. I gained on the objectives, but dropped like 600 on the subjectives, even though I KNEW I had done better.
where was this and what division. states or regionals?
i got a 930 in my speech in states yesterday, it was on hockey, i got gold for it. Nobody got above a 950 in our subjectives, including La Salle Collegiate McDowell and Slippery Rock as far as I know. Although maybe someone did in honors large school.

I got a 1000 on mine, but I was on effing team 2! Mine was a satire on the deterioration of the English language.
