hey you should use something like camtasia to record your screen. it just makes it easier for us to see. and obviously dont get any reflections off the screen.

Watched the whole thing and I appreciate the effort that went into making the videos. Written reviews online and photos on the dell website does not give you a "hands on" experience of owning the laptop.

I think I've made up my mind to get this instead of the Asus, but the screen does cost a lot eh?

How do u compare dell studio xps 1647 to dell studio 1558, if both have same specs and price? Is there any difference in screen height of both??? I guess..owing to the wide screen nature of xps...it would be shorter in height.. right??

Dude, what's with the love affair with the Dell dock? Haven't you ever heard of ObjectDock or Rocketdock? They've been around for years. you wasted a lot of time on the Dell dock. Your other review videos were better than this one.

i have the 9 cell battery (i accidentally got it and its to big.. i dont like it) and on high performance its about 1.5 - 2 hours. on energy save it may say its only 2h 15mins but its actually like 4-5 hours with brightness down and stuff like that

go with the 9 cell. on max performance i get only about an hour and half on idle with the 6 cell.

The Studio XPS is the new line of XPS. They don't make a "just XPS" laptops anymore. (as far as I know)

XPS (Heavy Gaming) Line has been discontinued and is now been bowed out for the Alienware Line.

Studio XPS is higher performance with style.

Anyone who was around for the original Dell XPS machines knew they were pretty much a big brick with lots of lights, they weren't the prettiest things, but they were monsters for gaming.

For some reason, the BIOS on this laptop throttles it under load, using trick after trick to stop it taking more than 90w from the arguably inadequate power supply that comes with this machine.

At worst, it can throttle clear down to only 12.5% of its potential.There is a huge issue and dell has agreed to fix it that has been 4 months this system is preforming far less then a i5 processor if you want more info just google Dell throttle issue and it will bring up a150 page of users with the prob

Have you fixed the problem with the BIOS patch?

The bios patch is A07 if you haven't can you private message me if it fixed your problem I am getting this laptop with 8gbs and Intel i7 so yeah need to make sure it works :)

Hey, Great tutorials. I was just wondering, does Dell give you a Windows 7 reinstall disk? If they do give them out anymore what happens if your computer is formatted or whatever.

If it doesnt come with your notebook, you can simply call and ask for disks. They should send it free of charge and via overnight. I have had this experience.

Ok, I've been planning on getting this laptop for a while but I've been waiting for a bit. I'm glad I waited because you can now buy it with i7 processor. However you can no longer get it with a blu-ray player. I was very disapointed when I saw this as this would have been a large part of what I would use the laptop for. Does any one know if you can still get a R/W Blu-ray drive and just instal it you self some how? any advice would be appreciated. thanks..

i would go with the xps 1645 - not only does it have a better screen, but it also has backlit keys and can run any game you'd ever want to run on highest settings (w/ the 1gb card) smoothly. seriously like look up xps 1645 gaming you'll be wowed

Reflections aside, this screen (RGB LED Backlit) blows away all notebook screens.

VAIO would look good if you never saw this screen... but if you saw them side by side, its no contest.

110% color gamut on the Dell Screen... thats all I gotta say. ;)

RGBLED LCD is the best screen out there! I recommend that if someone is thinking about this laptop, buy RGBLED LCD. This screen is pretty expensive but you'll love the screen and you will know when you watch movie or play a game. Hope it was helpful : )

When My Vacations begins, I'm looking to game and watch movies more than I normally do.

By the way, how much difference is there with the RGBLED LCD and WLED LCD?

I was sitting behind a window with no blinds, so its usually not that bad. RGBLED was better colors and are very vibrant, you are you going to be watching movies, there is no better screen. The color gamut is 110% and gorgeous! Color accuracy is middle of the road, but the colors are so rich and deep its amazing.

I can't speak for the WLED, I am sure its a great screen, but it wont look nearly as good as the RGBLED.

fresh install uninstall all the dell stuff. update the synaptics touch pad to give you mac like zoom feature. camera will run on drivers by win 7 and install the creative drivers and thats it lol

i just bought this 1640, i will do my own review in a week or so. It is a fantastic laptop, but the 2.53 GHZ proc makes it go very hot. I had my RGB LED Screen replaced three times and still have dead pixels. Dell wwarranty fantastic but ye still dead pixel.
