We're now so used to seeing all the Madonna's putting on a great show but can't sing live (only in the studio when the technician has pushed the right buttons) that we asume that none of todays pop singers really can sing. Nicole just proved us all wrong! Some of them really know how to sing!

She did all of the song live. The entire thing; the end of the cadenza and some of the beginning parts for Christine are pre-recorded, even in the stage production. Singing this whole song (which not even Sarah did on ALW's 50th or as the encore of the 25th) take so much to do live. And she did it with a light, clear tone. And while sick. Girl's got skill, I'm sorry to those of you who don't want to admit it. I study voice in college, and I'm around a ton of vocalists. She'd fit in with this.

She did study opera before but she does not sing opera for a living. She didn't train extensively as she went on to have a pop music career. She only prepared for 2 days plus she is joined by opera veteran singers. The other Christines were well prepared and had months of intense training, had more experience plus have been doing opera their whole lives. Nicole hasn't done opera since then and she might have needed to brush up on her skills and placement but she definitely did well.

@primohomme yeah i agree. love musical theater, and this is one of my favorite pieces for a female lead, despite it being a sarah brightman role ;-p...hehe. i do see some parts where i can be a little bit more critical in her placement, mainly on her mid head voice. i can kinda hear her not really lifting the soft palate and kinda placing the majority of the sound in her oral cavity.

If I'm picky I would say her middle and low range need support, this is a 3 octave song and the low phrases down to G3 need to have some body to it. Sarah is not the greatest singer in the world but she does support those low tones.

Actually, earlier Sarah sang with pure vowels and a clean light-lyric soprano, but at some point she started doing the "Oh" thing, apparently in attempt to darken her voice and artificially make it appear bigger as she likes singing Puccini arias, but actually some of her more pop and experimental/alternative music is quite good. When it comes down to popera and new age easy listening I prefer Sissel, Celtic Women and Hayley Westenra

It's sugary easy listening stuff, but nice in that sense. I also like Enya.

Anyways, both Sissel and Hayley Westenra have what seem like effortless high notes (both up to at least D6) and decent lows down to F#3 or F3.

Anyways, Sarah does have some great more pop/rock songs; How can heaven love me, A question of honor, Deliver me, Snow in the Sahara, Les fleur du mal, Music of the night (which was written for her voice), etc.

Absolutely agree on the mid-low register....it's not supported very well.

Love as she goes higher in head voice though....those C6s (bit wobbly at points) and E6 were beast ^^.

I've seen plenty of Tweets - 2 from 2 of the actual men up there singing with her that is was all LIVE - and from rehearsals, others have said that it was all her - so peeps who can't handle the truth, go elsewhere. I don't understand why people always have to try and put her down or find a flaw in her where there isn't one. This performance was done in a weekend - the 4 phantoms are pros and I think she did quite well considering she had little time to practice in between her work commitments.
