quick quick slow is a way to simplify the dance it doesnt really help.. i see that people who teach it like that end up making cumbia steps. u might not notice it. but we latinos do...specially when they put themselfs out there like they know what their talking about...
Quick quick slow is the american way of training. You don't really want to apply 123 567 if you are going On2 based on footwork. 4 n 8 don't need to be pauses in the middle. If you are doing extensive footwork you count them as well. I dont' thnik they are kiling the art - just extending it. salsa is now the most popular partnerdance in the world. All of Europe is in it, Asia and even Africa. No longer a "Latino" dance, so other cultures are adding their own flavor. Afterall, salsa means mix!

It's not true that everyone dances on the 2. Many salsa dancers in California dance on the 1. Dancing on the 2 is often considered mambo in California, not salsa. Since the instructor is not counting numbers, or dancing to music, who is to say which pulse she is dancing on?
I agree with you, it is the music that guides you. But if we must an accent on the counts, on 2 gives you a lot more freedom to move and include hip movements. I think my complaint on this video is that it's too ballroom, and not enough Latin.

quick quick slow is a way to simplify the dance it doesnt really help.. i see that people who teach it like that end up making cumbia steps. u might not notice it. but we latinos do...specially when they put themselfs out there like they know what their talking about...

Quick quick slow is the american way of training. You don't really want to apply 123 567 if you are going On2 based on footwork. 4 n 8 don't need to be pauses in the middle. If you are doing extensive footwork you count them as well. I dont' thnik they are kiling the art - just extending it. salsa is now the most popular partnerdance in the world. All of Europe is in it, Asia and even Africa. No longer a "Latino" dance, so other cultures are adding their own flavor. Afterall, salsa means mix!

Nice introduction for beginners. This video is not intended to show fancy steps, so it makes no sense to complain that it is too simple.
I would like to see more Cuban hip motion in the demo.
It's not true that everyone dances on the 2. Many salsa dancers in California dance on the 1. Dancing on the 2 is often considered mambo in California, not salsa. Since the instructor is not counting numbers, or dancing to music, who is to say which pulse she is dancing on?

I agree with you, it is the music that guides you. But if we must an accent on the counts, on 2 gives you a lot more freedom to move and include hip movements. I think my complaint on this video is that it's too ballroom, and not enough Latin.
