  • Alright, I have to know: Is the lead part a synth or a guitar?

  • i don't know if Kevin Shields is a genius, but he's certainly good at what he does for a living: strum power chords and press on the tremolo bar a lot.

  • @fathermckenzie1 doesn't matter how he does it. as long as he turns it into influential art.

  • Kevin SHields is a genius of his own, like any artist should be. Dont be a hater.

  • @kidakuo almost any artist. I would hardly put Britney Spears and Justin Bieber in the same bracket as Kevin Shields.

  • they sound great live

  • 次に日本に来日ときは必ず見に行きたいバンドです。20年前と変わらないLiveは素晴らしいです。

Next to Japan is a band in Japan that wants always to go to see...

  • Nice, I just got into this band through a professor of mine lol. Couldn't find a vinyl version anywhere so I asked him for a CD.

    Love this album so far.

  • Genius or not, I can dig that sound. ;-)

You wouldn't happen to be Alan McGee by chance? You do sound a lot like him in this post.

  • 1:17 : My ear !!! I had put the sound to his max !

  • I like when they arn't signing the music it is loud and crazy but when they sing it's like a noisy melody......oh so sweet.

  • the riff uses pitch-shifter or something similar?

  • Tremolo arm on the Fender Jazzmaster and maybe a bit of reverse reverb.

  • o shit sounds great i can wait to see them in coachella this year

  • Tell me you don't just wanna make love to someone when you hear this song!

  • Most MBV has that effect on me.

  • @Konner actually i just wanna sleep and dream :D

  • was MIDI around back in 1990 when this was recorded? to my knowledge all that he used was lots of distortion, a decaying reverb (the reverb is before the note / reversed reverb ) and the tremelo bar (bending the strings in and out of tune to get that multiple guitar sound while he is strumming). Oh yea, he messes with the tone /EQ alot!

  • MIDI was used all throughout the 80s dude...

  • I know that in the 90s, Kevin used a MIDI machine live, and I believe that was to generate the pre-recorded tracks.

  • fuck you man, it took a long time for kevin shields to craft his sonically perfect guitar sound. some say years, some say he'd been crafting it since he was a baby, some say he had a half finished guitar sound passed down from his father who himself had been working on the same sonically perfect guitar sound his entire life.

  • @mateyboy07 or maybe he took shrooms one day and figured his sound in less than 5 minutes

  • so beatifulll i wish iw as tehre *u*

  • Oh my god, this is so beautiful!!!

  • i think that the projections are the same tahat they used back in 91 or 92, do you agree?

  • Lush were great, I actually think they were one of the few bands that were tagged as "shoegaze" but were doing something more interesting than the average MBV copycat band. To me they just sounded like a pop-rock band with ambient elements throw in. Sure, they were no My Bloody Valentine but i'd rate them higher than bands like Chapterhouse or whatever.

  • Lush = so so. Chapterhouse = unadulterated crap.

  • no vienen a buenos aires!?

  • sorry bud but Lush were originally the MBV copiers par excellence. the first 3/4 songs of a gig i saw them play a fucking long time ago (1990?) were practically MBV covers. yes i like them (particularly compared to a lot of the shit that's around these days) but they aren't even in the same league. dear old Kev is a ground-breaking artist - many, many others followed the trail he had cleared.

  • why the fuck doesn't the reply button work properly for me

    fucking crap welsh computers

  • You got too much coal dust in it or something?

  • laver bread in the mouse, pit ponies in my hard drive and a chapel clogging up me RAM

  • You, sir, never wrote LOVELESS, now did you?

  • those songs are still beautiful and still take my breath away...

  • While it remains to be seen whether they come through on this new album that is supposedly "90% complete", I feel good knowing that MBV is out there making noise. I only wish they'd come make it in my neck of the woods. :(

  • u.u

kiero ir a un concierto de ellos :(

  • brilliant...

i'm melting in my seat right now...

please come close to me so i can see you guys!!!

  • woah there! calm down, seriously. you don't beat someone because they don't like lush ...

  • Right?

I love Split just as much as the next guy, but it's not in my interest to take an axe to someone that would alternately prefer, say, Hootie and The Blowfish.

I do encourage they are to be sterilized to prevent further dillution in the gene pool, however.

  • Split was terrible. Gala was about the only good album they released.

  • gala split and spooky were all great so was lush

  • FUCK FUCK FUCK. why didn't they play this song at roskilde?!!!!!!! whyyyyyyy

  • Please tour Australia

  • i must have been stood RIGHT next to you.

didnt you get told to stop recording? two of my friend did

  • oh...so, you WEREN'T THERE? Ha ha, that's too bad. You'll find thousands of people who will disagree with you mate, ratings and views speak for themselves! And specially in regards to MBV people have been desparate to catch a glimpse of them since reforming after all these years.

  • yeah, alot of views don't mean shit if the sound quality is garbage. i don't care much to see a band if they sound like crap. and obviously i would have liked to have been there, mate. then i wouldn't be stuck getting pissed off by shitty cam grabs on youtube

  • Erm, 79jer1979 what are you on about?? most of us are grateful to see these clips and the sound on this is actually really good! what do you expect anyway, high def/surround sound? you're only jealous because you didn't get to go, so shut up loser!

  • Yeah, compared to any live clips of MBV I've ever seen/heard, this is relatively clean and recognizable. I'm puzzled as to how this camera's mic wasn't as overwhelmed as all the others.

  • PURE Beauty!!!!!

Want to see them!, I really enjoyed Loveless...was made the year I was born!

  • omggggggggg there is a reunion. im still in shock to know that id still be able to see them before i die. i wish they play When You Sleep when they come over here to san francisco.

  • thanks to all the posters who put their live footage up here - helping me to relive the dream i thought would never come true.

    anyone up for Shellac?

  • This man, Kevin Shields, is a genious! Just like John Lennon, Syd Barrett, Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood, George Harrison, Johnny Marr.

  • is true!!!!!

    ever!!

  • Yeah, and Robin Guthrie, Simon Raymonde, Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi plus Kristin Hersh.

  • Err, agreed...but Lush sucks. Miki Berenyi's juvenile, neo-fem lyrics are hardly "genius."

  • I's been a long time since I've read something that stupid and ignorant about Lush !!! What do you actually know about them ?! (I got ALL their records) Let's be serious ! BOTH Lush and the Valentines RULE !

  • I'm with you. Lush will always be one of the great undiscovered bands

  • Don't forget the rest of the band. They are just as important. ;)

  • OMG I'm about to leave for the Glasgow show, cannae wait!

  • MBV RULES !

  • This actually happening folks.

  • yeah its all happening!

  • I still cant believe it...

I thought i was going to die before this (and im young...)

    truly inspiring...

  • esto es magia... espere mucho esta

  • i saw these guys in Providence back in 92 my ears rang for a week

  • one of the best new mbv vids!

    awesome quality!

  • oh, the memories of beautiful noise. Thanks for upping this vid, really good quality!

  • fucking great!
