Might be a stupid question, but here it goes: The mouse is injected with venom, and it clearly dies (or becomes completely paralyzed, or both) within thirty seconds. When the Cobra ate the mouse, it ingested it's own venom along with it. Why doesn't the venom harm the snake as well?
@Goat04 The venom kills the mouse because it enters the mouse's blood stream. When the snake eats the mouse, the venom doesn't enter the snakes blood stream so it doesn't harm the snake. That's the difference between venom and poison. Venom, has to be injected into the blood stream to do harm. Poison on the other hand, is consumed and causes harm that way. Although not advised & dangerous people have taken a drink of snake venom with no ill effects because again, it's a venom, not a poison.
I do the same thing...but my cage is bigger. And it has a mongoose inside...but I don't feed it mice, he likes snakes! And where I live Cobra's are very easy to come by!
lol this cobra looks very stupid indeed. Took him a very long time to realize that there is live bait behind him. If he didn't have the venom, he would have never caught the mouse.
@ishojtester Thats how cobras work they bite and wait. They can take their time.. If it was a constrictor it would bite and not let go after the first strike.
@1980viracochas Training. Anyone who keeps venomous reptiles should be trained to safely handle them, and if they keep exotics they should also keep the anti-venom that corresponds to that species. Because hospitals only carry the stuff for native species.
Great video. I know the first bite was to inject the venom. What was the "sneezing" about? I didnt look like she was spitting after the first bite. Looked more like sneezing. Please enlighten me. Thanks.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh man my favourite snake in the whole world(Well it really would be a king cobra) but what cage would hold 1 of them? The only way to truely see this is on a high speed camera, I paused and played this constantly and the amount of thing that happens within 1 second...WOW this is why the Cobra is called KING! BRILLIANT!!!
dude that is a beautiful snake! and nice set up too usually i hate it when someone makes a home made hide but the way you did it was so genious that i actually looked really awesome and store bought i love it!
Oh, I'm so disappointed, now. In another of your vids I commented on the snake's seemingly keen "thought process" in looking for the mouse. He just totally shattered my illusions. ;-)
That's one sleek snake - at least it has looks if not so much brains. ;-)
@ZachariasLePuertre Never underestimate how smart a snake can be... they may seem a bit puzzled when sniffing around or their food... it's just that their eyes can only pick out movement. Once their prey dies and lies still, they have to flick around with their tongues to find out where it is. But I've seen this guy manipulate the mouse around the terrarium using the terrain as leverage just to be able to swallow it head first. Quite a feat without limbs... cheers
@ZachariasLePuertre Because that rodent is sooo much more intelligent. Try harder with the pseudo intellectualism bro. You look like an asshat right now.
... usually they would track down their prey wherever it may fall... still very cautious about it actually being dead... then without limbs they would have to negotiate the best way to swallow it head first. (which goes down easier)... checking the terrain and process how best to utilize it to gain the best leverage... pretty darn smart I think for creature known to possess only instinctual responses to perceptual stimuli... and if the prey is not moving ... they can't see it....LOL
@LXDNG And something we easily forget, watching captive snakes at work: making sure you can tag it without somebody else stealing it, and making sure you can swallow it without being attacked by a predator. The same goes for digesting it, especially when the dinner is a large fraction of your own mass! Try dealing with a gang of thugs after consuming half your weight in raw, unchewed meat, bones, and fur. Snakes have my undiluted respect, that's for sure!
@ifellonmyownpiss Actually, snakes are quite smart. Just check out those studies done on Corn Snakes a couple of years back. They can navigate mazes as good as any lab rat.
yea, well the venom potency varies to a significant degree. I've clocked 5 seconds for this snake too recently but on other days it can up to a minute... Regardless though pound for pound venom toxicity is ultimately adherent to the LD50 rating (lethal dose in 50% of subject/mass)
jk.... errr nowhere in particular. Me and some friends run a part-time snake removal service. Other times the aboriginal people here call us when they catch snakes... but they cook and eat them if we come to late
I kinda coax him into the skull or hide... when he's in there, nothing will make him come out if there is commotion outside. But just to be sure, I use a hook to put the skull with him in a holding container.... Clean cage... reverse process
im so jealous this gota be my fav of all cobras maby even all snakes Naja sumatrana are just amazing jus dont get bit no good AV for these guys as im told be safe an post more if you can
Do tell... we don't have any AV at all here... so hopefully in the future I will be able to do something about... since no one else is up to it in Malaysia... someone told me the milking at Perlis snake farm is just for show
I didn't buy him. He was given by a friend as a baby whose house it slithered into. He's grown heaps since then. I don't handle him. He hides in the skull I remove and secure the skull with him inside it for cleaning. But if I have to use a snake hook with extreme caution.
