Elephants are usually hunted to control over population in wildlife sanitariums. Too many elephants leads to too much shrub removal and the animals begin to starve. At least I hope this was the cause in this vid.

The hunting is highly regulated and governed. And like many have said, the large amounts of money that is costs to hunt elephants helps the wildlife sanctuaries care for all species on the land. I'm not a hunter,but I do love fishing. And I'm against all forms of hunting. Now, some people will call me a hypocrite cause I'm doing the same thing with a hook and fishing pole instead of rifle & bullets. But tell me how many animals shot from a rifle can be brought back to life? When I release the fish from a hook it usually swims away with just a fat lip.Maybe 1 in 15 fish released will die as a result of a hook injuries. So don't compare fishing with hunting! you ever notice that elephants who are getting shot at rarely charge? That's because as long as they haven't learned that humans are dangerous, or even have a forgiving attitude, they don't want to harm another creature. There are been countless cases where elephants have randomly helped people and creatures in need. They are inherently altruistic. A matriarch once charged a man who got to close to the young, she broke his leg, she stood there for 2 days keeping him safe until help arrived.

Add that to the VERY large fees for hunting, employing all the people required for a camp and you have a major economic impact. Controlling elephant population through licensed hunting is the best way to ensure the elephants continue to survive. The hunting is highly regulated and governed. And like many have said, the large amounts of money that is costs to hunt elephants helps the wildlife sanctuaries care for all species on the land. Get a clue before sounding like a pud. Just watch Nat Geo, what you are wanting happens everyday.

Elephants aren't endangered. There are over 120,000 of them living in the nations where hunting is legal, and last year, a total of 210 aging bulls were taken. Calculated culling does more for for the healthy expansion of animal populations than you can comprehend, and without the meat that these hunts supply, thousands of natives would starve annually. Unless it's a poach, hunting concentrates on the old, the weak, and the diseased. Given how hard survival is in the brush, it's an act of mercy.

But the only way an elephant can be ethically killed is if it is an immediate danger to people (ie self-defense). Elephant aren't born with instincts like most animals, they have to learn behaviour like humans do. They can be artistic, and have cultural death rituals, they are self-aware (a rarity in the animal kingdom) amongst many other things...

I'm not a hunter,but I do love fishing. And I'm against all forms of hunting. Now, some people will call me a hypocrite cause I'm doing the same thing with a hook and fishing pole instead of rifle & bullets. But tell me how many animals shot from a rifle can be brought back to life? When I release the fish from a hook it usually swims away with just a fat lip.Maybe 1 in 15 fish released will die as a result of a hook injuries. So don't compare fishing with hunting! It's just not the same!!!

he should have waited till the animal was broad side with him. It would have made for a more efficient and humane kill.

A bullet to the brain is the most humane shot there is, well except no shot, and it is just as effective from the front as the side. The brain in most animals has a larger profile from the front making the shot easier.
