Well for a start, being musical is usually something that runs in families. Also, I assume her interest in this genre as well as learning to play unusual instruments such as the harp, etc were encouraged and fostered by her parents.
Left to their own devices by disinterested parents, most people don't end up playing Dark Iniseoghain on a harp at festivals.

However, it was Siobhan herself who showed interest in this genre of music after learning "My Lagan Love" from a voice teacher who taught her how to sing in the Irish style. She decided to play harp after singing with French singer/harpist Cecile Corbel (videos up on youtube). Neither myself nor my husband sing or play an instrument, although there are singers on the Welsh side of the family and musicians on the Irish side.
