That vault full of music idea is genius! You can only fit so many songs onto any given album. Even if you go the route of "all things must pass" there's still a limit to how many songs you can fit onto one release. And if you're full of inspiration at a certain time, it could be like money in the freakin' bank during more creatively dry times. And even if they don't get used for that, it could still end up being a posthumous legacy type of thing. It's a great idea.

@qwisp You don't make the big money from being the performer. You make the huge bucks from owning the publishing rights. He owns the rights to all of the music he has done. He also owns the publishing rights to acts like Vanity 6, The Time, and for royalties received as a writer and producer for several other acts. He is always going to be able to afford a very comfortable lifestyle. Don't forget he sells out anyplace he tours today and he still releases new material.

That vault full of music idea is genius! You can only fit so many songs onto any given album. Even if you go the route of "all things must pass" there's still a limit to how many songs you can fit onto one release. And if you're full of inspiration at a certain time, it could be like money in the freakin' bank during more creatively dry times. And even if they don't get used for that, it could still end up being a posthumous legacy type of thing. It's a great idea.

I'm a fan of both Prince and Kevin Smith. For years I have thought that Prince walks the fine line between genius and insanity. No one could be that creative without being a little crazy. I'm glad Kevin 'forgot' to sign the confidentially agreement. LOL And a few audience members look a little mad that Kevin is talking about Prince this way. Get over it, people. Prince is still a mortal man who takes a shit&piss just like the rest of us.

It's possible to get lost, literally and figuratively in an artistic pursuit...especially when it's your career. Prince is more than a little crazy. I love his music, especially the stuff up to the early 90's (pre-symbol days) but the man isn't firing on all pistons. He's definitely human, just so isolated and so introspected, having so many people willing to do whatever he says, no matter if it makes sense, that he's gone loco.

It does help when people are supportive in his endeavors of the arts. People around him appreciate and understand his creativity. They know he is a special person and his gifts need time to cultivate and grow. They'll just be patient with him. However, the people around him know they are definately in reality.

Keep in mind that he did not say, "Hey, guys who wants to hear about Prince?!" He is responding to what his fans ask of him. Being the open guy that he is, he happily obliges them. His fans ask about his life and that will bring up his interpretation of situations he has been in.
Point being, it is not so much a malicious attack on the people he mentions (notice, he said more than once that he is a major Prince fan) as much as it is him expressing his opinion.
