• one of the few intelligent songs of our time. did this roberts author the song?

  • There are parts of it shot in Detroit, though.

  • Turns out the bar is O'Regans Irish Pub in Montreal. Apparently they wanted to shoot in Detroit, but didn't have time.

  • @tony0000 well if they didn't film themselves at a Detroit bar they have all of their walking shots in Detroit... Or they've moved our landmarks, architecture, and streets to Montreal. I don't see why the whole thing wasn't shot in the D.

  • Ha! This looks like the story of my life. So... here I raise one for Detroit!

  • Does anyone know what bar he's at?

  • @tony0000 If you find out let me know. I am going there!

  • Thank you for making this video! Sam's got it right. I remember being a kid and seeing the riots on TV and wondering if I should be afraid. I grew up about 30 miles north of the city in a very remote area but remember wondering if there was a war coming to my town - because that was what it looked like on TV. No matter what people say, I love Motown and will never be afraid to visit it because the spirit of Detroit lives on forever!

  • WOW! Shit hot music video! Outstanding!

  • I like Detroit, but lets just say I'm glad I live 20 minutes away. Close enough to go to the city when I want and far enough from the senseless murder and crime.

  • @KeepRockin55 so true, so sad,but i love detroit

  • I wonder if sam roberts puked after the video....

  • This is one of my absolute favorite songs. Detroit will come back one day. We are all people, and us people all want great city to live in.

  • I'm sorry '67.

  • Chicago 1951...I was in Ann Arbor at the time '57, then to the Haight, then unfortunately to New York and the Westside of Chicago.

  • There is no city more Real than Detroit. We've had our ups, we're taking the downs, but make no mistake, Detroit is coming back with a vengeance!

  • I was born in Detroit in 67 in Hot July, when the rioting was happening and everything was on lockdown. my poor mother must have been so scared! I was just a babe so i didn't know what the hell was goin on. Metropolitan Hospital, no longer exists..

  • Just saw him at St. Andrews the other night. The place went nuts when he played this.

  • My family's originally from NYC, I was the first one in my family since coming over from Ireland to be born outside of that city. I'm glad the city I was born in was Detroit. No matter how down and out this town may get, we always stand right back up! Love this place!! From Hoffa to Cadillac, it's home to me!!

  • What bar are they in??

  • Greetings from Detroit. Thank You!~

  • Detroit 1-8-7, anyone?

  • Detroit is always a good time.

  • I'm so proud of you guys for having this song kick off the late$t epi$ode of Detroit 187!

    cheers!

  • I'm so proud of you guys for having this song kick off the latest episode of Detroit 187!

    cheers!

ps... my Mom's old school Corktown! She's 81!

  • great vintage footage

  • SAM IS THE SHIT!!!!! ROCK ON SAM AND THANKS FOR THE LOVE!!

  • does anyone know what bar they are filiming in?

  • Sam Roberts is the fucking man. Bringing good old rock n roll back.

  • An old Detroiter loved this~

  • Interesting...is he drinking to remember or forget?....

Don't give up...Detroit was beautiful and one day it can be again. Thanks Sam.

  • Detroit is in really poor shape right now. Sometimes I love my city, other time I want to move but I can never deny being a Detroiter.

  • Randomly got linked here, this is amazing!

  • Nice,.,.But Check Out My Channel,..,Nicely Wwell Put Entertainment!!

  • This video (and song) is an excellent representation of the polarity that is Detroit. In this town it seems like every good news story has a down side and every cloud that hangs over this city has a silver lining.....I don't think it will ever end, which is probably what makes Detroit that much more interesting.

  • Hats off to you Sam, nailed it. Thanx,

    Marc

  • Detroit1967 gives this a ***** rating.

"Don't forget the Motor City... viva Detroit."

    Good song, too.

  • Its not just our city it every major city in the US.

  • Impressive. You guys should go to talentwatch net. More music fans need to check you out!

  • a guy and 4 friends, on stage, just ROCKIN!!!! no stage show....just plain rockin'....the Filmore was an awesome venue to see him for the 1st time. can't wait for the 2nd!!!!

  • I think he needs a key to the city. I saw him at the Fillmore... Awsome!

  • Love your stuff man

  • The story needs to be told.

    Thank you Sam....

  • Saw him last night at the Fillmore in Detroit. It was an amazing performance. I've never seen a performer become so in tune with their audience with such enthusiasm. Hope to see him there again soon.

  • Tune!!!

  • There's still a noticeable tension between the blacks and white in Detroit. The '67 riots were only the beginning of racial tension in Detroit. That being said, Detroit is a very unique city!

  • '67 wasn't the beginning there were riots in the 1940s.

  • man it's depressing to see what our city's become

  • sounds a bit like dylan.

  • Long time fan, great video.. but not a big fan of the song itself. It might grow on me , but first impression, not liking it.

  • Hey does anyone know what bar this is in?

  • "where the Chippewa did the fire dance"

can anyone here tonight remember those times?

This song + and the film "The revolution will not be televised" are elements of the salvation of modern society.

Free on google video full length Irish produced...

  • Sam's from MONTREAL yeah yeah

  • man we got to do something to help those people in Detroit ....

  • Does anyone remember those times when the lions didnt suck?

  • this is a great music video. detroit is the best!! i like the song a lot as well

  • im glad detroit is gettin some good recognition.

the city as its self really isnt bad & the old train station is absolutely beautiful!

  • plus you can buy a house there for like 5k or something.

  • I live in Windsor (across from Detroit) and visit quite often. It's soooooooo true, my parents taught me to 'fear' detroit growing up, but really the city is the best. It's like an old shirt, it might be a little worn in some spots but you still love it and wanna keep it just the way it is. So much history of EVERYTHING there. Rock on Detroit!!

  • Windsor ROCKS ! Thanks for the love. I didn't know this video existed until they played it before a Red Wings game a couple days ago. It's awesome. Anyone visiting Windsor from the US? Go to the Tunnel Bar B'Q.....great ribs !!!!!

  • amazing ribs!!!

  • @CoboHall14 I would LOVE to go too Detroit, big problem is that I live in Victoria, which is on the West Coast which means ROAD TRIP!

  • I was in British Columbia once....very beautiful......so yes, you MUST visit Detroit.....let us know when you're coming and we'll put out the red carpet :)

  • @CoboHall14 LOL I'll try to remeber that! Make you guys all freaking happy, maybe a christmas gift for 2011! and Merry Christmas!

  • Why thank you : )

  • @bobtomato07 "the city is the best. It's like an old shirt, it might be a little worn in some spots but you still love it and wanna keep it just the way it is."

    Well said my friend. :)

  • @bobtomato07 i agree i'm french and i lived the there for 5 years but i moved back ,i learned to love this city and maybe it's not like NY but it's a town that one day will emerge again .

  • sam roberts is hot. He should come to prince george:)

  • All true, great valentine to what makes the D special, warts and all. Not meant to be a criticism, but maybe he can do an alternate video showing the best of today as well since the troubles are in there e.g. winning the Cups, the Cup parades, '06 Tigers celebration, etc.

  • <3 your AWESOME

  • My Dad grew up in Detroit, my Mom is Hamtramck. I grew up in Metro Detroit, but Detroit has been part of my life since I was born. It gets a bad name in the media, but I've been to other big cities and they are no better. If you grew up in Detroit or the Metro Detroit area, you would know what people mean when they say they wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

  • I love my city!!!

  • best music video i've ever seen

  • Sam roberts....gr8 tribute to a great city....Really the city is not as bad as everyone trys to make it seem.

  • This is a great song.

  • Sam Roberts!!! always great happy rock, i Love it... especially in the summer!!!

  • This is great. I love Sam Roberts. I was born at Detroit Metro Hospital in 67 and My partents could see those fires from Mom's hospital window. My big brother remembers army tanks driving down our street when I was born. Great song and video---thanks SAM!

  • people who talk shit about Detroit have never been here... it's your own ignoranced not to think every big city has bad parts... If you come to Detroit and don't have a good time, that's your own fault... I love the D!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice rocket richard jersey

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • no shit, crawl back under that rock phil collins, you cunt

  • PhilCollins4LIFE, at least I am doing something about fixing this city. You, you are a low life who has nothing better to do that criticize people on youtube.

Also, you are in love with Phil Collins. Nothing you say could make me respect you or your terrible taste in music / life choices. You fail so hard.

  • wow phil collins blows as an artist

  • uhhh Phil collins was not the founding member .........and peter gabriel could run circles round him ..gabriels genesis era was sooooooo much better

  • is this a joke?

  • your nuts bud.

  • Is the bar in the video Ac Lindells near Old Tiger Stadium as it looks famillar. I went there when I lived in Windsor. What a great video!!

  • Lindell A.C. is gone dude, been gone for a few years now. (2005-2006 maybe?)

  • 2002

  • nah i was in there after 02

  • a friend sent me the video and i was stunned. having grown up in detroit with bob seger, nugent and kid rock i didn't think anyone could do a better job then they did at representing detroit. the sam roberts band has taken it to a whole new level and they aren't even from detroit. nice job my canadian brothers. here's a labatt's cheers to you.

  • Wait wait wait, I gave you that thumbs up BEFORE I read "Labatt" cheer... No way man, MGD!!!

  • Hey...nothing wrong with a cold Labatt's. : )

  • i love the sam roberts band :)

  • Detroit is an interesting place and even given the turmoil and aftermath of the riots there are still some beautiful homes and riverfront and much more that are not a focus of this video. The video is still great because it tells a story. I just wish people knew. Anyway great song!

  • "Detroit '67" kicks ass what an inspirational song, especially with all the turmoil that the auto industry (i.e. GM and Chrysler) is going through these days (see their interview printed on April 8th in the Wheels section of the NYTimes). The video is quite an enhancement to the music. If you like "Detroit '67" you should give "Panic in Detroit" by David Bowie another listen it really ties into this tumultuous period in Detroits history that Sam Roberts is channeling and it really rocks!

  • I can't wait to see these guys, the Sam Roberts Band will be playing in my neck of the woods on July 11th, they are in the line-up at a free concert sponsored by a local radio station (WXRV the River music station) here in the northeast. They are scheduled to play at the Newburyport Riverfront Music festival along with Fastball, Eric Hutchinson, and Katie Herzig.

  • detroit is the best

  • Go Red Wings!!!

  • they lost :(

  • Great song!..should have a couple of million veiws already

  • Detroit is blamed for all the bad things happening to it, but really, it's a beautiful place if you just give it a chance.

Another thing, Sam Roberts is a really good vocalist. :) Adding to that, he's Canadian! WOO!

  • Thanks for your positive comment about Detroit.

  • Gotta love these songs that can make you feel nostalgic about a time you didn't live

  • i get that same feeling

  • this another great song by sam robert's, it makes it even better thats its filmed in detroit, and detroit really is a great city that receives nothing but negative attention

  • their best video next to bridge to nowhere ...just plain cool

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song so much (:

Sam Roberts is my Canadian hero ♥

  • What a great video homage to Detroit, my dad grew up in windsor and my grandfather worked for chrysler for over 35 years. He remembers the glory days of detroit! Sadly with todays quickly changing auto industry I don't think those days will ever return to detroit. Great song!

  • Yeah, I remember those times. I remember seeing it on the news. I remember seeing the tanks roll down the freeway that ran through my backyard 20 miles from Detroit. I remember being afraid the riots were going to escalate like wildfire and spread to town after town, overnight. I remember moving to Detroit two weeks after the riots. I should have had my head examined!

  • I Hart Detroit

  • Great song, great city! I got to help build the North Cass Community Garden today ... I love seeing farms, gardens and green space all over the city.

  • Good for you! I think someone made a documentary about urban gardening and Detroit is in it - maybe the whole documentary is about Detroit urban gardening? It was a Dutch filmmaker I believe. Maybe some of it's on Youtube somewhere.

  • I grew up across the river in Windsor, another once-proud industrial powerhouse that's become an urban wasteland. Detroit was good to all the immigrants who came there to work in the booming auto industry but has been bad to itself.

  • Windsor is becoming an "urban wasteland?" Say it isn't so!

  • Go RED WINGS!!!

  • Woo Hooo!!! Let's Go Red Wings!!!

  • the years best song.powerful.this inspires me to go to Detroit and do what i can to rebuild one of the most important cities in America.

  • Wow, peacenikkle, you made my day!

  • As a detroiter who was born and raised as a kid here til i moved out to the burbs, i must say, until the detroit city council and wack jobs like monica conyers have power, the city will never flourish.

  • luckily, we have a chance to elect some serious new leadership very soon! i for one am glad to see mr. ken cockrel take back the presidency of the city council, and I'm thrilled that the charter commission has been wholeheartedly endorsed to make changes to how we work. city council elected by districts, anyone?

  • I agree with the change to district representation.

  • Tragic, with a good dance beat.

  • Heard this for the first time on a Detroit public radio station today. THIS SONG IS F'ING GREAT!!!

  • I think The River is playing both Them Kids and '67 Detroit - at least I think that was the station I was listening to.

  • Message to Sam Roberts Band - how about do a show AT the Michigan Central Station? There's a big grassy area in front of it. Wait - maybe the vibrations from the bass will make it fall down. Scratch the idea.

  • The Michigan Central Station is slated for demolition (it's in the video) - if you want to write the owners to try and save it, the address is: Mr. Moroun, CenTra, Inc, 12225 Stephen Road, Warren, MI 48089-2010 - the Detroit mayor's address is online too. It's so painful, I can't even put it into words. The house my dad was born in, didn't last 60 years before it came down; 2013 will be the Michigan Central Station's 100th anniversary - and it will bite the dust before then? Excruciating.

  • Detroit is a horrible wreck. I drove by all my relatives old houses the other day, it's a slum, houses are boarded up and stripped of the aluminum awnings.
